Long story short, it turns out that color black is the only one that can handle the fourth dimension, whereas any other color would cause the machine to rip a hole through the time space continuum, casting the user and a whole chunk of his block towards a wormhole. The ps3 is a pretty heavy, over weight system, black is slimming. Kaz told her she looked fat in those pants (the Silver ones)
the PS3 is not just a game console. Its a home entertainment centre blah blah blah yadda yadda etc.
In my house (and almost everyone I know) we have a black HDTV, on a black stand.. which has either chrome legs or is highlighted somewhere with chrome.
The PS3 sits perfectly within this setup without looking out of place.

That's a popular misconception. Essentially, blue (shorter wavelength) light is scattered by the atmosphere less than red light, so more of it reaches our eyes. Moreinfo.
