I think it's because they are just plain fun. Aside from the lush environments, crazy weapons and extra content, they make me laugh and a genuinely funny videogame is a rare and beautiful thing. "This crotchetiser is still warm." Great stuff
Ratchet and Clank games never took themselves seriously, they were not affraid to make fun of themselves. This always kept the "same old formula" of the games fresh and fun. Plus they always added depth to each game without changing what worked ... man I miss my PS2 for these games
Its probably the excellent blend of action andplatforming. The game is constantly giving you a new weapon or allowing you to upgrade old ones, so it never gets old. Everything about it is just great, it has it all from the levels, the gadgets, the boss fights, the mini games, everything you could want, hell the later ones even had multiplayer. Ratchet to me was easily the best platformer of last gen.
It's a rare blend of a genuinely humorous atmosphere and top-notch gameplay. It's very much like Psychonauts in that way; it's no surprise to me that the R&C games and Psychonauts are basically the only platformers that I really loved. R&C just works on so many different levels, which is great.
