All the guy does is crap on games and tries to make it sound like every single game is on the brink of financial collapse. Any praise he gives is during game reviews and those are co-incidental. His negativity is a huge turnoff, but I guess some people are into that.

If you are into him, what's the appeal?

You get the gist of the content in the first quarter of his videos. He just repeats himself to make his videos longer for the monay. Don’t blame him for it though. And he reads a lot, which I fucking hate. I can read too, just give me your damn opinion. Again, makes his videos longer.

It's basically a very old and still much used Youtube template. Outrage for clicks.

YongYea compared to someone like Jim Sterling is less obnoxious about it. Comes across as analytical rather than emotional appeals or incendiary rhetoric that put Sterling on the map, or similar ilk.

But, it still largely boils down to negativity being a magnet. Not just for gaming but Youtube in general. Drama channels. The idea of seeing the elite and successfully fall.

Bold red lettering. CAPS!. In a way it's bottom scraping, but, if it annoys publishers by informing people of their bullshit, good?

The legacy gaming media is basically seen as PR now. And to an extent, arguably are.

Do love Yong Yeas lulzy Cyberpunk review, clearly kissing the publishers bollocks in full fanboy mod. Believe he actually deleted it?

Still, yea. Basic bitch answer, negativity sells.

Have you seen the gaming industry these days? it's not like the good old days these companies are getting worst and worst every year. I don't find YongYea negative from what I've seen of his videos he seems pretty decent especially compared to other Youtubers. If you follow the gaming industry I don't know how you can't be negative from graphic downgrades to lootboxes, microtransactions, broken games and constant lies from these publishers and devs etc.. it's really hard to be positive with the garbage that goes on.

True. While alot of it is bottom of the barrel "get mad give click", plenty of material to source from.

Yeah, stopped watching his vids when it started to feel like he was just fishing for clicks.

But I do like that he makes videos. Having someone many people watch calling publishers out on their bullshit is good. Feels like one step closer to not letting publishers rape gamers whenever they feel like it.

@Litchie: I get that, but a lot of the stuff I see him crank out is like, "This game's economy is crashing! Certain doom!" or "Dev pisses off gamers with mobile game!"

While I can see people liking the content where he exposes underhanded practices, other times he is bitching just to bitch. Server issues? There's a 20 minute YongYea video for that. Game undersells? There's a 20 minute YongYea video for that...

Typically avoid clickbait content. I have a pretty good list of creators who I've deemed worthy of my time and I don't often stray from it unless I get a recommendation from someone I trust. Usually these people have more skills than just 'sit in front of webcam and rant', and their videos and projects reflect that.

Oh yeah I recognize the channel. Never looked interesting enough to warrant a click tbh.

He'd do better making more videos at a shorter length, because most of his videos, I don't even bother with. As far as I'm concerned, SpawnWave is one of the best gaming news YouTubers out there. He really just stays neutral while being very energetic. I want to give RGT 85 a nod, but god damn he never edits his videos!

YongYea. An American eSports gamer, actor, and voiceover artist who often put review videos are really popular. And I don’t understand yet why is that so. If bashing other artists on a youtube channel makes you popular, that may be the reason.

We can’t blame him for his popularity. He just repeats his content to make videos longer and that’s fine. Every YouTuber does that. I like his sarcasm and reviews and in my opinion, that’s what made him popular.

Can't really blame a business for following a profitable model. Yeah it sucks that negativity is what generates more engagement, but it is what it is.

In a way, can you blame him? That's mostly what we do around here too. Hell this thread is just that.

I just don't give views to this kind of content creator, just that. For instance, Angry Joe, it got to a point that I realised he's behaviour was that of a mentally challenged person, no adult should act like a 3yo throwing a tantrum and make a living out of it. So I just don't watch and try to avoid mentioning this kind of people, because I don't want to accidentally point people towards them.

Stretching video content is basically an old fashion and popularly used YouTube template. YongYea also does that for outrage for clicks. And that’s disappointing about him. If he is popular, I don’t know why. Maybe people are with good taste do not exist anymore.

@coragerard: If you will see his videos, you will catch what’s in the end in that video. He unnecessarily stretches his content and that is weird. I don’t like watching his channel anymore.

I agree that he is popular but for all the wrong reasons. He reviews games and criticizes heavily. His content is crap yet people like as people like controversies and negativity a lot than positivity. In his opinion, every single video game is on the verge of financial collapse. Hardly will you get any video of him praising and that’s even co-incidental. For me, what turns me off is his negativity and nothing.

Hate and drama sells. This has been the case on Youtube since the first year, with stuff like Angry Video Game Nerd and The Irate Gamer.

@davillain-: Everyone likes things on Youtube, some of it is decent. I for one enjoy a few channels mainly freelance animators content.

Though it is widely known many people just watch garbage on the online video sharing/ social media platform. Whether that is because the users are on something and vibing, or just have terrible taste in content is not really my business.

People can do whatever they want and for better or worse that leaves Youtube, like any other video media website filled with shitposting nonsense, and other junk content. YT is a cesspool, with flakes of gold found in the mixture.

@Willy105: The difference being is that is tongue in cheek humor and satire. YongYea is the manic street preacher on the corner saying how the next video game crash is upon us because all these games suck.

YongYea is one of the main reasons why I watch gameplay (no commentary), instrumental music & older G4TechTV more nowadays. Hearing his voice is annoying, lol! I'm more picky when it comes to video games on YouTube (is that bad to be picky). Today's video games are awful (don't get me started on the gaming community) & playing older games keeps me from ditching them altogether.
