i have a solid gpu card (ati 6850) and play everything with ultra setting with good fps. how come todays games and even "big graphics, dx 11" games like crysis 2 and battlefield have a low res blurry texture when you go really close to a wall or prone to the ground ? from far it look nice but you would except that in today games you will have the same quality from far and up close... it's really bother me lol. i dont get it, why developers not putting high res bump mapping eveywhere, it will look a lot better.

Why do nowadays games still have squarish objects?

To answer your question - because very hi-res textures eat a lot of video memory and not everyone has a 2 gig graphics card.

Play on a decent PC. There's much clearer detail textures both at distance and up close.

yes, but evrey 2-3 yers developres saying they have photo realistic engine. and this just not true. maybe in the ps2 era gameplay was more importante beacuse the lack of powefull hardware, but today developers cant have the Excuse to say the hardware is too weak for great graphics(at least on pc). well, in the next generation, evey game has to look great with high res close and far, it will be a realy shame if not.

It's a combination of factors. First of all, most developers nowadays develop for multiple platforms, and with multiplat development, you always have to take the weakest link into consideration. More simply put: most PC games are glorified console ports.

Secondly, high system requirements make for a smaller install market, i.e. less potential income.

And thirdly, quite some games focus instead on increasing the scope of their games, which eats most of the video memory that the high-res textures would've been able to take.

Wouldn't it take a truly ludicrous amount of time to program hi-res textures for absolutely everything in a game that the player might conceivably get close to?

It takes a lot of power to render a nice, high-res texture. It has to load in so much more information to make everything look crystal clear. Even now computers and consoles haven't progressed to the stage where you can have all that immediately. It's why there was so much talk of texture pop-in in Rage, because they wanted you to get the high-res textures, at the expense of the pop-in.

You have a PC, which is better than consoles. However, developers make games for consoles in mind, so most games won't feature high res textures for this reason. This is also the reason why hardware has been able to last so long and stay decent for future games.

I'm sure if games weren't primarily designed for the Xbox 360, textures would look much better. This console is technically weak and yet, developers still use it as lead platform.

Next-gen, expect less low-res textures. This gen, consoles aren't up to snuff, but that will change obviously. If you're not sure why, just look up the hardware specs on this generation's consoles. Although one would argue... Why doesn't Uncharted 3 or Gears of War 3 have ugly textures? Well, I guess you could say some developers or too lazy or they just don't have the resources. I don't know the true answer to that. As we move on to the next generation, and the next one after that, we can expect to see less of it.

Because they are more important things to worry about then if textures are blury. They need to make a good game.

Anisotropic filtering solves that problem.

I think the trade off of more viewable textures on screen is better

ya I really don't see why people complain about graphics. I would be fine if they cooled it down a bit and made games with graphics from a few years ago and focused more on gameplay.
