Is it as simple as "Hey, they are familiar to it and will just buy it. We will wait to the next console to actually start something new."? Whats so bad about starting a new series?

It makes good financial sense, sequels are cheaper and safer than new IPsmarkop2003That's the long and short of it. We can complain all we want, but economics is unyielding.
there is sequels comming and being advertised
but there are just as many non seqels being released
you just need to actually look

There have always been sequels coming out. I have no problem with it, but once they hit the trilogy mark it's usually a time for a break. Like Assassin's Creed, they kept cranking them out that I ended up skipping Revelations and am going right to AC3, as I just got tired of them. If it weren't for sequels we wouldn't have Super Mario 64, and I think that alone is reason enough to have sequels.
Plus, there are plenty of original games coming out, they just don't have the same super advertising as established series such as COD, Madden (always good commercials), BF3, and others of the like. These games get ads on pretty much all mainstream outlets, while games like Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex only get advertising on TV channels such as SyFy (which is kind of ironic since DE has more sci-fi than SyFy does) and G4.
Basically, there are plenty of new games and even solid sequels coming out, but they are usually a little harder to get info on since they're not on the front page of everything.

new ips come out all the time. I want sequels too... i wincampzor
This basically. I like a good balance between the two.
Why not do a sequel? If the game has a ton of fans, and the story has a logical way of advancing, then there should be a sequel. I always see these youtube videos from people who think their being witty by pointing out all the 2's and 3's coming out. I don't really see the big deal, though there is the argument all these sequels stop innovation, but you can't hate a series just because it is a series. There need to be logical complaints against it.
I personally don't have a problem with sequels. I think it's more that there's too many of them coming out that bothers people..but as been stated these Publishers and Developers want(and need) to make money so they go with sequels because they're safer and more likely to sell than an new IP.

Sequels keep NextPay consumers hang on to the first releases and sequels usually come up when the first ones are big hits. The more the sequel, the better the first ones since there wouldn't be sequels if the first ones are bad. Also, economics plays a part in sequels too as it's cheaper and more convenient to produce since the first one already have acquired consumers. Starting new ones meant being back from zero.
