http://www.square-enix.com/jp/ir/e/data/financial/download/tanshin_070523en.pdf

it's a link to the financial report made directly by square-enix for the 2005 and for the 2006 years.

Check how much money they gained from the japanese market and compare that to the us market... lol

don't wanna read? okay, I'll write it down.

2005;
-Japan: 111k millions of yen in sales
-US: 15k millions of yen in sales
2006;
-Japan: 138k millions of yen in sales
-US: 23k millions of yen in sales

We can see two things there;
1st, square-enix make more money each year :D lol
2nd, they did 88% of that in japan for 2005 and 86% of that in japan for 2006. That only means that square-enix don't really care about the US market, they will traduct games for those sales, but it would cost too much to developp for two consoles just to have a little 12% more sales. (12% is big, but compared to the 88%...)

and what consoles do *** buy? wii, ds and ps3.
So they will do games for wii, ds and ps3...

Sorry all x360 users but only some square-enix games will do multi, like Last Remnant (looking HOT). But the big names will keep on their names on the ps3 (like the FFs or the star ocean games (square-enix recently told that star ocean 4 will be at the TGS and that it's a ps3 exclusive). OR make some apperances on nintendo systems (like the dragon quest for wii and that other dragon quest for ds).

I suppose that's why I'm getting a ps3. lol. And the analyst said that around next april, the ps3 will be around 399$, that's low enough for the japs to buy it, but I'll buy it before that (when the next price drop occur, before christmas).

ps: I like every consoles, they all have their unique flavor, but sadly I have to choose since my wallet is not infinite. I suppose I'll buy the 3 consoles, but only one first, then, after some years, the other too (like I did for last gen).

becuase they're too lazy to make them multiplatform and they tend too go for the japan made console's.

and they are all targeting Japanese gamers.

Meaning Xbox 360 is very unattractive system to them.

Which also means you won't see too many on PS3 either as everything will be on the Wii and DS. Oh wait, they think Final Fantasy on PS3 will make it super popular...

The hardcore game market (including the market for jrpgs) is shrinking in Japan and Oblivion put up massive sales numbers on the X360 (well in excess of any rpg on the Wii or the PS3). Couple that with the fact that X360 owners enjoy Japanese games as much as anyone else (as Capcom has demonstrated) its no surprise that several Japanese rpg makers have announced games (or in the case of NIS, the intention to make games) for the X360.

Of course, if none of therpgs released or in the pipelineput up big numbers (what has been released on the X360 thus far is underwhelming and the incredible looking Mass Effect is hitting soon) jrpg makers won't throw good money after bad, but if any of those games sees a Lost Planet level of success...

TC just showed SquareEnix made much more money by selling their games to Japanese market compared to American market.

Near 10 times more from just Japanese market compared to American market, and guess what? SquareEnix happens to be biggest JRPG company in Japan, which can be used as good indication how well JRPG gets sold in each country.

In other words, chances are that Japan will still buy more JRPGs than American market, meaning 360 is still their least attractive console of the 3.

Also Oblivion is WRPG. WRPG fans are VASTLY different compared to JRPG fans.

How well did Blue Dragon sell in America?

Wrpgs and jrpgs tend to play differently, but there is sometimes overlap in terms of design (both FF12 and the upcoming White Knight Story borrow from KOTOR) and both are similar in that they are games which are best for people able to make massive time commitments. As for jrpgs in Japan, the hardcore Japanese market to an even greater extreme than the American market, seems to be heavily into brands.

If one is releasing DQ, Paper Mario, Pokemon or FF (though it should be noted that the popularity of all of the aforementioned franchises in Japan with the possible exception of Pokemon isn't what it was) then it makes sense to take a Japan first mentality. However, if one is a developer who isn't sitting on top of such a franchise and who is interested in selling lots of copies of your games and no anime license is availiable, looking outside Japan might very result in a bigger payoff than focusing on Japan.

Japanese developers largely shunned the Xbox last generation, but this generation more of them have decided they like money.

P.S- I don't think Blue Dragon's sales numbers are out yet, but I don't expect much since its a mediocre game (judging by the demo).

Common sense really, since Japanese Rpgs are meant mainly for Japanese consumers (hence the name) and the wii and Ps3 are doing much better than the 360 in japan why release a product that isnt going to bring in the cash?
