Gamespot reviews are tagged with emblems that describe some of a game's shortcomings or advantages. One of the emblems is the 'Oh Snap!' emblem which means that a part in the reviewed game made the reviewer go 'Oh snap!'. This is pointless. Think about what I am about to say. This basically means there is a part where you say 'Wow! That's pretty cool.' There is at least one of these in almost EVERY game. Most decent reviews WILL have this emblem. Emblems are pointless if 95 percent of games will get the emblem.

I think you're taking it too literally. Symbolically I take it to mean a really extraordinarily cool part of a game that deserves special mention in the form of the 'oh snap' emblem. Some reviewers may shell the emblem out more liberally than others, but I think we can trust the judgment of the reviewers to use the thing responsibly.

It's not a "Wow, that's pretty cool." It's "oh snap!" in the sense of "No, I am your father!" Something that you didn't see coming at all.

The emblem isnt just for having a plot twist or a cool cutscene. It's something that makes you stop playing and just enjoy how crazy that moment was. First exampl that comes to mind is the ending of Braid.

I see it more that the game has some exceedingly cool and/or awesome moments in it. But you don't see it everywhere, only in certain games so i think that should be taken into consideration.

I won't go as far as saying it's pointless, but I noticed it's been handed out very frequently, meaning GS editors are easily snapped

exactly. i also think it's a useless emblem because it is given for a lot of different reasons. for cutscenes, graphics, story line, plot twists, certain sequences. it really doesn't explain much

It's kind of a cool thing, I think. Because every now and then, I'll come across a game that does something, whether in-game action or cutscene, that I just pause the game and think: Did that seriously just happen?
