I have heard from friends that Skyrim is one of the best, most fun, and most addicting games ever. I am a little wary of buying it though since I hated Fallout 3. I will list some games that a hated, meh, liked, or loved to see if anyone can help me decide. Loved Games: Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal, GTA Vice City, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Halo: Combat Evolved, Bioshock, Bioshock 2. Liked Games: Call of Duty, Halo 2, Doom, Doom 3, GTA San Andreas, Ratchet and Clank, Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront 2. Meh Games:GTA III, Splinter Cell, Half Life, all fighting games, all racing games, all sports games. Games I hate: Fallout 3, Halo Wars, The Last of Us.

I'm not sure.... Skyrim is a lot different from all the games you mentioned.

But if you don't like Fallout 3 then you might like Skyrim, it's a lot less drab and more user friendly IMO.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Fallout 3 but Skyrim was more inviting and I was more motivated in than Fallout 3 in finding and exploring everything.

It seems you like a lot of open world games apart from Fallout 3 but it seems you play almost only shooters.

Skyrim has bows and magic but definitely isn't a shooter. If range is your forte then you will probably dig it.

None of the games you like can be compared to skyrim so its hard to say.

Do you like magic and fantasy games with a open world setting?

Skyrim is like 10 dollars right now I would say get it.. you have nothing to loose.

Thanks for replying I will give it a try. Probably will pick it up in the Skyrim and Bioshock Infinite package for $30

Skyrim is similar to Fallout 3 in some aspects. What didn't you like about Fallout 3? It's hard to judge if you'll like Skyrim for sure or not based off the other games you mentioned you liked/didn't like. But of all of those, Skyrim is the most similar to Fallout 3. Fallout is sometimes referred to as The Elder Scrolls with guns, which I agree with to an extent. But I still don't know if I'd recommend Skyrim to you, because I loved Fallout 3, and I also loved Skyrim. I think both games have excellent open worlds and are quite accessible to newcomers. You need to give both games a number of hours to truly get into it. And once you get into both of these games, you're likely to spend a lot of time on them.

It was my second favorite game of last gen behind only RDR. You can get a used copy for about $15 shipped at this point so give it a shot. You might love it.

The gameplay and combat system felt incredibly awkward and it seemed like I spent more time talking to people than actually completing tasks. I will give it another try and try to like it more. Perhaps I just need to get farther into the game maybe?

Well the combat in Skyrim is probably its weakest feature.. and even that is pretty good.

Exploration, story, quests, replay, graphics etc are all incredible though : )

@BrokeMuleGamer: I don't feel Skyrim is too different in those areas, though perhaps the combat is a bit less awkward since it doesn't have the sometimes clunky gunplay Fallout has. There's a lot of talking to people in Skyrim, though you can back out dialogue easier, fortunately. And honestly, I hated Fallout 3 when I first played it. But I gave it another chance and the game really grew on me. It's the exploring and all the side stuff you can do that make these games amazing in my opinion.

There are numerous YouTube videos about Skyrim and it's gameplay, it's world, it's mission structure, etc. I'd suggest doing the research and seeing for yourself if it even seems like something you'd enjoy.

If you like discovering a game's world and exploring, then Skyrim is a game you'd probably like. If you like games that give you very little direction but provide a place for emergent gameplay or a place for you to make your own fun as you go, Skyrim is a game you'd probably like. If, however, you want a strong narrative focused game? I dunno, that stuff is there but it's not really the draw of the experience.

I'd suggest picking up the PC version over the console versions if you decide you'd like to give it a go. There are enough mods on Steam and the Nexus that even if you don't care for the game, you can probably get your money's worth just by tinkering around with the world through mods.
