I doubt that Microsoft will drop the price since PS3 is still more expensive and 360 has a ton of must-buy games coming out this year. If anything, I'd expect Microsoft to offer a free game or a free 2nd wireless controller with the system, but not a price drop. They are already losing way too much money on it right now.
A price drop just before the holiday season is likely, but I don't see MS doing it this summer just because Sony does it. Then again, if the price drop helps Sony more than marginally (which I don't really see happening) MS may feel compelled to do it to protect their marketshare.Robio_basic
There will most definitely be a price drop effective immediately. At least $50, but possibly $100. I could see Microsoft matching Sony's drop dollar for dollar.
Truth is, I think we would have seen a price drop regardless of what Sony did. Microsoft's numbers each month are dwindling. They need to do something regardless of what Sony does/did, because it's become painfully obvious that they've pretty much tapped-out the audience that pays $400 for a console. It's also pretty shameful that the 360 has gone longer without a drop than the PS2 did. I mean, I like the 360, but the PS2 itis not. And while I don't think any one system will be a "PS2" this generation, Microsoft needs to step up and expose the system to a wider audience. This should have happened six months ago.

This is what I figured they'd be thinking. They don't need to react to this unless it steals their thunder.rragnaar
Thing is, there is no thunder.
The 360 is selling terribly for a second year system.
