Will there ever be a modern times-set Assassin's Creed? I strongly think it would be awesome

The main argument against a 21st Century set AC by purists has always been that with today's technology, you can't avoid or dodge it.

Lol that's hilarious. If that were the case, Hitman and Splinter Cell wouldn't exist. I'm fairly new to AC as I just got into it with Origins, but a modern game would definitely work. Only modern stories we get are from the comics from Dark Horse. IT'S TIME FOR AN ACTUAL GAME! FOR THE BROTHERHOOD!

Here's at least two things I'm expecting if Ubisoft really wants to pull it off: 1) It should have the same feel of infiltration and badassery with the twist of tech like drones you can use to tag enemies and quests, like Senu the eagle, and 2) expand further lore-wise as far as what is going on with the corporation that is secretly acting as the Templars.

Who agrees? I think it's time. :)

I mean, the thing that draws me to the series are the historical locations, so an AC set in the current day would have no appeal whatsoever to me. But to each their own, I suppose.

I'm sure Ubisoft know all about Hitman and its own IP Splinter Cell.

And compared to Assassins Creed they do not sell nearly enough or have the fan following. So using them as a template for success needs to be seen from both ends.

I don't really care for any of the three personally. And just calling it as I see it.

Assassins Creed is popular and exceedingly well received IP for its target audience.

Hitman is niche with few games worth consideration.

Splinter Cell Cell had a lose of identity and never recovered from it (which Assassins also had but fans like the ups and downs anyway, I've even seen some Gamers defend AC: Unity)

So based on the above I can see why the Assassin Creed teams do not go against previous time periods. They have a reasonably good idea of what the install-base expect. Even if the games have become more Action RPG games over Stealth games over the years.

Well Assassin's Creed technically is set in modern times... there is that isn't it...

But I know what you mean also I think.

I could see it happening near the end of the life of the series. I full support the idea. It's would be awesome but I feel like they still have so many time periods left to explore.

I've been asking for this for a very long time.

While I love romping around historical locations, I would really like the series to conclude. I miss the old story line, too; Desmond Miles wasn't the best character, but at least they were going somewhere. The Precursors were being revealed and explained, but now with Origins and Odyssey we are back to them because mysterious and anonymous.

Frankly, I would love to see them do something where instead of being historical, it's more prophetic (re: future telling). How? I don't know, but it'd be fun to be present-day then get in the animus and somehow see the future, aka "play around in the future.

Alternatively, I would love love love it if they went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the past to the precursors and we played a part in the human rebellion. Either way, would like the series to conclude.

Or tie it in with Splinter Cell :P Third Echelon = Brotherhood?

This would be a very interesting perspective on the game.

I can just see it now..

  • A perception point on top of the tallest building and having to fall into a a pile of bin bags/dumpster..
  • Trying to sneak around in the bushes in a park and not disturb the homeless..
  • Trying to assassinate your target while surrounded by people in a city and while crossing a street..

The fun never ends.. ;)

How about a Cold War-era Assassin's Creed game? I'm sure you could work in some fluff about Assassins and Templars set against the Capitalist vs Communist ideological struggle. Not to mention, no shortage of epic historical moments, figures or gadgetry to draw upon there.

That setting would be relatively modern, but not so much so that you couldn't also have the present day Animus sections to mix it up. Could be like a 'what was grandad really up to in Cambodia, Angola and Afghanistan?' sort of thing.

Isn't that what Watchdogs was supposed to be before they changed focus?

Funny I just started replaying Black Flag and I just couldn't get into it the game has aged badly graphically and gameplay wise and I uninstalled it. I would definitely like a modern setting I'm frankly bored of the past unless it's anything from the 70's and up.

Modern day AC is not appealing. Might as well call it GTA.

I always thought it may work good for like a sniper kind of assassin and could use a storyline like JFk was really a Templar and you're the one who killed him. I
