With all these remakes how would you feel if a game got another chance?

First of all I know this will never happen alot of remakes are cash grabs that just milk popular games. But how would you feel if a disappointing sequel got another chance for a remake to fix it's problems and make the game what it should of been? can you think of any games you would like this to happen for? in a perfect world of course.

For me I would like F.E.A.R. 2 to get a remake the game needs a remake from the ground up they can keep the story and levels for all I care but the gameplay needs a major overhaul along with sound design, UI, AI, improved graphics, melee, weapon models, combat etc... I think if F.E.A.R. 2 got a remake and fixed all the downgrades from the original game it could be some nice redemption for the fans of the series and then F.EA.R. 3 would be next.

Generally I'd rather see the resources spent on new properties and ideas, but to answer the question I'd like to see the following remade (emphasis on remake...not remaster):

  • Deus Ex (original).
    • Would love to see this remade in new Unreal Engine.
    • Make some gameplay changes but overall keep it as it was; a first-person RPG. Don't focus on the action aspects, keep the emphasis on alternative solutions to challenges.
    • Increase the stealth mechanics.
  • Red Faction.
    • The series is really great but I'd love to see the original game rebooted and remade, maybe turn it into a three-part series for some extra content (the original shooter, not the other games....though don't get me wrong Guerilla is one of my favorite games, and Armageddon was a criminally overlooked horror-shooter).
    • With how technology is these days, they could really kick the destructive environments up a notch and make it into something great.
  • Thief, Thief 2.
    • It's time. Just...do it. Remake it. Frame for frame for all I care, just remake it in a modern engine. Maybe go through the development and add in any cut/missing content provided it is good.
  • Alpha Protocol.
    • Arguably the roughest of any "diamond in the rough" game, it was none the less a really awesome experience. I think a full-blown remake would be great.
    • Game mixed Mass Effect-style gameplay with espionage; it was like a mash up of James Bond, Jason Bourne, and some Die Hard thrown in there for good measure. With a light sprinkling of 80's kitsch set in a modern setting.
    • Could probably turn this game into a series if they wanted to.
    • Would need a lot of work, but the foundation for an excellent remake is there.
  • Black and White.
    • God games need to make a comeback. Would love to see a remake of Black and White/Black and White 2.
    • With the advances since the game was released, I think the pets would probably act better and the gesture system would be easier to use (or just scrap it all together).
    • Some refinement of gameplay elements would be needed in relation to resources, I always felt it was a little floaty and vague.

FEAR 2 remake would be awesome. Decent game series as a whole but with a couple flaws in later installments.

FEAR 2 remake? FEAR 1 needed Remake. FEAR 2 is useless sequel that forgotten. FEAR 1 is masterpiece and one of the greatest game of all time.

but monolith not interested in FEAR IP they are making Hollywood/licnense ips now. first shadow of mordor/war now wonder woman.

I rather want monolith to make Matrix FPS in the vein of FEAR. slo mo shooting suits matrix. come on monolith. make matrix FPS.

F.E.A.R. 1 doesn't need a remake it's a masterpiece they shouldn't touch what isn't broken. F.E.A.R. 2 on the other hand is one of the most disappointing and downgraded sequels of all time I still wonder how Monolith f#cked it up so bad.

Story is ended in FEAR 1. FEAR 2 did not needed to happend.

Story of Pointman, Alma, paxton fattel has ended. FEAR sequel was Extraction point where it all ended.

FEAR 2 has different main character.

btw hows my idea of turning Matrix movie into FEAR style FPS?

Sure, I'd welcome a good remade FEAR 2. That game sucked. First one still looks and plays good, no need to remake, remaster or tamper with that.

Can't really think of any others. Maybe Duke Nukem Forever. Would be cool if that game didn't suck.

There is an old FPS for gamecube called Geist that I keep bringing up for questions like this. You play as a ghost who has to posses people with particular weapons or skills to progress through the game. Multiplayer has a ghosts vs humans mode, where the ghost team tries to posses the human team and walk them into death traps. It's fun, but controls are loose and the framerate is choppy. Would love to see a remake that fixes all of that.

Alpha Protocol and KoTOR 2, unfinished Obsidian games with a lot of great ideas mixed with rushed jank. Let them actually realize their ambitions this time.

If I picked one that just came to mind_

Soul Reaver

By Platinum Games, Team Ninja, or Capcom (Itsuno's team)

I like 3D Hack n' Slasher games and I'm shocked some of the mechanics in SR have never been implemented since. Hand it to one of the best in the genre and I think it would make bank, not to mention be a fantastic remake to a dead franchise.

Certainly the first and Human Revolution are stellar gems, with only minor flaws between the two. I would love a remake of the og!

If this isn't already in the works since Square Enix sold Eidos, I would be surprised. What a waste of talent to have Montréal work on shitty Marvel and Tomb Raider properties. When Deus Ex is already a franchise that has so much potential.

As in games that were poor but could be made great with a remake?

Xenoblade 2 immediately comes to mind from this gen (game continues to haunt me). The game is a mess but the ingredients are there for an absolute belter. They just need to dig out a coherent story and stick to it. Mechanically the combat system also needs a rethink. And tone back the creepiness. Yeah..there is a lot to fix.

Infinite Space on the DS: Brilliant setup and very interesting world to delve into. Just the game is mechanically pants and a grind fest to the point of cruelty. There is the makings of a great game in there though.

Oooo, this is such a great idea. This is spot on in the vein/spirit of the question. I'd love to see an update to this title.

I feel the same for lackluster sequels for Bloody Roar, Mutant Football League, and Tenchu. New gameplay design, aesthetics, and starting over could really revitalize these long lost titles.

@shellcase86: Definitely. Plus it's suggested in the OP @warmblur didn't really intend the thread to be about popular series that could get remakes, but classic games lost to time, most of which deserve a second chance.

Great examples as well, Tenchu kinda has a spiritual successor in Sekiro, but even that is questionable.

Not going to lie, I'd love a Just Cause remake. I know people like the second one the best, but something about the first one just brings me back.

Final Fantasy VIII comes to mind.

Simply put, from a storytelling perspective and the overall direction of where the game went, things changed drastically from what I was expecting and in turn, it stopped resonating with me. From memory, it was when Edea was introduced sometime during disc 2 specifically. But prior to that, the setup and worldbuilding that disc 1 laid out had some serious potential, in my opinion.

I say it all the time, but just give us a new SOCOM game like 1,2, or Confrontation. I have a list a mile long full of games I'd like to see get another title in their franchise, but I would sacrifice them all for a truly good SOCOM.

They could actually remake the game they called "Dino Crisis 3" into something that is actually a sequel of, and remotely resembles the other games in the series.
