Mine was this.... I got home from work one day and was anxious to get back to my Chocobo breeding in FF7. My sister was playing the game in my room which was no problem I was always happy to share with her. I told her I was taking control of the Playstation for the evening and she handed over the controller.

I went ahead and saved her game and in my haste I naturally flipped to my save slot, and poof... 100+ hours of leveling, side questing, and all around being anal about uncovering every aspect of the game gone. I had never been so disgusted with myself in my life. Has anybody else had an equally awful slip up?

Mine would be from when I was 4 years old, and finally got to bowser for the first time in SMB3. My younger sister crawled over to the NES and reset it. I don't remember how long it took me to get back to that point, but I would think it was a few months.

Oh man, that sucks. I remember a nightmare with Super Mario Bros. 3 as well. I was 5 years old and just beat Bowser. Then I asked my older brother what I was supposed to next so he said, "You're supposed to jump down after him" so I did (on my last life) and almost cried when I saw "Game Over" on the screen. I thought, "WHAT THE HELL?! I thought you said I was supposed to chase him?!" My brother was an ass. :P

I've fallen in that hole too!!! Only for me it wasn't the first time through the game or the last life so it was more a bump in the road than a tragedy.

When I was in elementary school Pokemon was a huge thing. Both cards and the GBA games. One time in 3rd grade(give or take) I stupidly brought my SP in its Pokemon Emerald case and all my Pokemon games(Ruby, Emerald, Leaf Green, Fire Red, and Sapphire) to school. And what happened? It all disappeared. I can't remember whether it was all stolen or I just lost it but I never got my games or system back. I still don't have an SP to this day and the only one of those games I ever got again was Ruby which was a Christmas present from a friend. Damn I was a stupid kid.

When I was a young naive kid, Some guy asked me if he could borrow my Pokemon Blue in elementary school. I probably would have thought twice about my desicion if I had known he was moving in 2 days. I never saw him or my copy of Pokemon Blue after that.

I'd had my PS2 for about two years, and had finished multiple games. I had a ton of RPGs with very lengthy files, and a few worth bragging over (Jak 2 on Hero Mode with all the stupid Orbs collected). I bought Jak X when it first came out, and before people knew about the infamous autosave glitch. In the course of about 15 minutes and one glitched-up save I lost everything on both of my memory cards.

I back things up from now on.

Even further back, I had my 300+ hour file on Pokemon Gold. The save battery died in the middle of a battle with my friend. After I swept the floor with her I shut off my GBC. When I turned it on a while later, the file was gone, and the cartridge would no longer save.

I played over 50 hours of Persona in my Playstation, and Mega Memory Card. Then Mega Memory Card got glitches to kill all saved datas. It made me sad and pissed off.

I get sick just thinking about these torrid tales. 2 memory cards of PS2 data and 300 hrs of Pokemon collecting gone... I would have a hard time picking up a controller again after something like either of these things.

Never heard of a Jak X autosave glitch, I only had the first two games, gonna have to look that up.

lost my save file for Need for Speed on PC, I think it's because I kept over writting the same save file, it was the second time that happend to me; thought for sure I was going to complete the game, to paint a clear picture, I had over 50 percent of 112 races completed.

I'd have to say one of my worst memoires is when I lost my saved data from Crash Bandicoot 3. I had over 100% on the game.

When I was in elementary school I would let my little brother play my Pokemon Red under the condition that he would not save or overwrite my save. I had nearly all 150 Pokemon and he saves over it. He did this about 3 times...

I had this sort of thing happen with Pokemon Sapphire and one of my friends once, when we were only 8 years old or so, but I still remember the frustration to this day.

Alright...Horror Stories here we come lol.j

Sooo who has heard of Gran Turismo...yes...yes I see many hands raised good.

Now we know that this series is a lengthy progress to get all the cars that we dream of right? RIGHT!

So now you know where this is going. I'm 16 at the time playing some Gran Turismo 4. Put over 700 game days into it. Got every car that I can imagine and because of the perfect storm. The power shut off during an auto-save. Today I have about 200 days into it then gave up and waited for GT5. I just couldn't bring myself to grind through all the races ALL OVER AGAIN to get my 2 Stealth Nissans and Stealth 787B. (You wouldn't believe how many Creds I had store for that Day when the stealths came in) And so far playing GT5 I only have a fraction of what I achieved in GT4...oh my game progress is around 70% but the amount of Cars that I like are slim compared to my past games.

2nd Place Runner-Up...Pokemon FireRed/Ruby....yeesssir you already probably know where this is going too.

Alright the two games go hand in hand on this one. One side I had a B.A. lvl 70s across the board in my Ruby slot...and working on FireRed to get the same and combine the two to get the most BA TEAM EVAR!!!!11! Right? Because we all wanted to crush our friends and competition. So I work up getting Tyrannitar and whatnot in FireRed when my sister decides she wants to try it....when I'm not home...ZAP memory erased...But wait that wasn't enough because at the Time I took pokemon Ruby to school and had a basketball game that day and of course when I put my stuff in the locker...what happens...ZAP my game (Not gameboy...IDK Y) was stolen out of the GBA SP.

I'm sure some of you wanted to sleep tonight...so I'm sorry if this keeps you awake because of nightmares lol.

Accidently deleting my save data from Donkey Kong Country.

Losing the fire Tunic in Ganons tower before I entered the fire section. A Like Like ate it and I blew it away but I couldn't get it back.

This happened to me three time actually: 1. On my Pokemon Red, the internal battery died in the cartirage and not only wiped all my progress but wouldn't retain any of my saves afterwards 2. My friend was playing my Smackdown! (the first one released), started a new season, and completely saved over my progress 3. My freshman year in college, my dumb @ss roommate creates a wrestler on my Smackdown!: Shut Your Mouth (my favorite game in the series) and saves over the 20+ wrestlers that I created and it also screwed up my season!!! Thank goodness my best friend created a lot of the same people and I kept many of the FAQs on how to make them. I spent 3 hours recreating everything and had to start my season over!

Wow, these stories are pretty bad, I think the closest I've had is someone stole my Demo Disk Containing War of the Monsters on PS2 when I was young and I only got a new game every Birthday and Christmas, I got my own back though by Stealing his Operation Winback, which was a really **** game, so i sold it for some cookies, never looked back since.

I was playing through Final Fantasy Tactics for the first time and had logged roughly 75+ hours in the game when all of the sudden a power outtage hit my area for a few seconds. When I turned the game back on and tried to start from the last save spot I realized that the incident wiped my memory card. It was one of the most frustrating gaming experiences of my life. Good thing that it is a great game otherwise I probably would have never picked it up to try and play it again due to the level of anguish I endured.

I lived in Thailand for 3 years. When I moved there, I brought my gc over with memory cards and everything. When the gc broke, my parents got me a "chipped" wii that, well, could only really play non-american versions of wii games and gc games. So I used the memory cards with it and all was good for a while. This year I returned to the US for college, and tried to play some gcn games on an american wii with my memory cards. I had to reformat them!!!!! All of my data for sunshine, ssx tricky, ssx 3, sonic adventure 2 & dx, Metroid Prime 1&2, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Mario Kart, luigi's mansion, Rogue Squadron II & III,and NFS Underground was deleted. Hadn't felt that bad in a very long time.

After months and months of playing Super Mario 64 I had finally got to the upstairs rooms. ( When I was little I played games for fun, not completion ) But one day when I went back to the desert level the vulture stole my hat. i thought it was no big deal, got a star and left the level. The next day I go on and my save is gone. No more. I asked my sister what happened and she said 'he was missing his hat, so I started over'. :|

Same thing with Banjo-Tooie. Hours of gameplay gone because of my younger sister.

I've never had anything really dramatic happen. Just the usual stuff every gamer goes through. Example: On the second disc of Star Ocean 2 and the disc decides to stop working or losing three Xbox 360's to hardware failure.

I thought the original Blue/Red games didn't have batteries in the cartridge? I think they started that with Gold/Silver (lost a huge Gold file when my battery went south).

Unless you mean FireRed.

******************************SPOILER ALERT**************************** It's a nightmare in a different context of what you guys are talking about... Sorry to ruin this if you haven't seen it, but in Chrono Trigger, if you lose to Lavos, you get a bad ending, which involves a few screens showing earth's destruction and then an eerie space scene depicting the earth decaying in an instant and then eerie music and eerie text displaying.. BUT THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE.... Being incredibly young, (5-7 years of age I believe) it scarred me forever. Geez, just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. I had literal nighmares about it. This is an event I like to call "The Great Gamecube Purge". Basically, my sister bought a separate 251 block memory card so she could play animal crossing. She quickly grew bored of it and the memory card was left lying in the console for wellover ayear. At that point I asked if I could use it if I left on the Animal Crossing saves. She said yes and needless to say it was only a matter of time before it was crammed full of GC saves. Later on, unbeknownst to me, my little sister tries out a Harvest Moon DS game on a separate trip to the mall and comes home with a stack of Harvest Moon GCN games while I'm absent. Without my permission, she deletes most of my saves to make room for the crap:cry:

I also remember one time a few years back (when I was 13 probably, I'm almost 16 now), me and one of my friends were playing Zelda: Four Swords on the Game Boy Advance using a wired link cable. We had JUST beaten the game for the first time and were watching the ending, when I moved my GBA back about ONE INCH and all of a sudden the game gave us a disconnection error and forced us to turn off the game. The game didn't even save either, so we had to do the difficult final level and boss ALL OVER AGAIN. :x

No judgement here! It was the dragon from Gauntlet II for me! I seriously would stop playing the game once I got to a room with the dragon in it because the sound it made scared the crap out of me.
