Mine was on the gaming news website N4G and was on a completely unrelated article to Heavy Rain, (I purposefully kept away from anything related to it until I played and completed the game) and there it was, some idiot told me who the Origami killer was in the comment section!!

needless to say whilst I massively enjoyed the game it ruined the reveal moment for me and wasnt the game it could have been.

I remember when I read it I was like, 'No! I didnt just read that!! forget forget forget it!!!!'................I didnt

what the worst thing you had spoilt? please guys try not to reveal the spoiler just the game it is related to

I had the twist of Bioshock ruined for me years before I had even played the game. I didn't care at the time, but it really irked me after I actually started playing it.

Was watching some Red Dead Redemption trailers and the first comment I read afterwards was pretty much a one-sentence summary of what happens in the end. It's annoying as hell having that spoiler looming in your head while playing the game, totally ruined what could be one of the best moments in gaming ever for me.

Well not the worst spoiler I've probably read but I watched Serenity yesterday after watching the entire Firefly series......right before watching the movie I happened to stumble upon someone saying
the main crew member who died toward the end.
I was like NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. Mod note: Spoiler tags are your friends. ;)

I had the ending to Gears 3 ruined for me right here on Gamespot. It kind of killed what little interest I had in buying the game unfortunately.

L.A. Noire's ending was spoiled for me here on GS. Couple of hoodlums posted the ending in a thread title. I was casually browsing the forums homepage and the spoiler was right in "recent" under SW at that time. Bah.

Recently, the Arkham City one was pretty bad. Once I hit the end of the game I realized how big of a spoiler it actually was. Before that, there was a relatively big moment in the Harry Potter books that were spoiled on these very forums.

Not sure if it counts, because it hasn't happened yet, but the articles on IGN about Dexter might have spoiled a major plot twist later on in the season.

That's a big one. I don't remember any in particular, thankfully, but just comments of kids talking about a game and it squirts out. Lots of people on here don't give good examples on what they mean, thankfully again, and people don't ask for examples (thankfully). I'm one of those who enjoys watching games being played. If I can find Uncharted 2 being played all the way through, then I don't have to buy it (haha just like the UC2 commercial where the gf thinks it is a movie). Most of the play throughs on YouTube the users have dumb commentary. Is it wrong to watch the whole game being played when you know you will never play them?

Many years ago, I learned that people like to spoil things for others on the Interwebs. Because of this, I employ forum and messaging blackouts the moment a game has been leaked/released. I keep my ear to the ground and find out as quick as anyone else if a game has been leaked or had its street date broken. Because of this, the only spoiling I have ever had happen was the spoiling I did to myself. I am a HUGE anti-spoiler nut, and to this day, no one has managed to ruin a game for me that I didn't want them to.

For example, the moment Skyrim pops up ahead of schedule (and it will, they always do), I disappear. Some lifelong noob will inevitably post a series of spoiler topics, but the people who care the most will already be long gone.

Edit: Oh, right. I listened to the Heavy Rain spoilercast and spoiled it for myself. I wasn't sure if I wanted the game beforehand, but after the podcast I had lost all interest in the game. :) I saved myself some good money there.

Erebus

I do the same thing, and can't remember the last time I spoilt anything important for myself.
Although I'm obliged to point out that Skyrim is a pretty strange example, since it's not exactly a story-driven game (for that matter, I haven't heard a single person say "gosh, I really want to play Skyrim to see what will happen to the Empire after the events in Oblivion").

Anyway...oh, I did read a spoiler for the end of Xenoblade, but that was well after I stopped caring about that game's plot, and the ending was both stupid and completely out of left field, so it didn't make much of a difference.

Ah dude -- that sucks!

Red Dead's story and conclusion for me was hands-down one of the best experiences in gaming I've had in; possibly ever.

I'm fairly new to forums etc but shouldn't there be a system/set of rules in place that if some monkey reveals a spoiler like that without consideration for others, he or her gets insta-banned?

Posting spoilers is a major no-no, and yes, there are rules against posting them. If you see spoilers posted in the forums or comment section, report them with the option in the drop-down menu in that post, and just pick the option Other, and write spoiler into the comment field so we know that's what you're reporting, and a moderator will deal with it. The punishment varies depending on how severe the spoiler is and which game it is that's being spoiled (a minor spoiler for an old game is not as bad as a major spoiler for one that came out last week, for example), but every reported spoiler is handled as quickly as we can get to them.

If someone posts a spoiler, and it gets moderated, don't the mods have to read the spoiler, and check it's true so that they can mod it? That must suck.

We shoot spoilers on sight, and ask questions later. ;) But yes, seeing them all when we moderate them does kind of suck. I try hard to avoid spoilers about games I'm interested in and let the rest of the team handle them, but sometimes it's unavoidable. :(

::::::SPOILERS:::: Well, there's the worst kept secrets of gaming, like...
Shiek being Zelda(Nintendo themselves ruined this for every Smash Brothers player Aerith being killed by Sephiroth Samus being a girl, but that's pretty much been turned into an advertising point ever since Metroid Prime 2. The Psychomantis boss fight The early game plot twist of playing as the Arbiter and Raiden in Halo 2 and MGS2, respectively
Mod note: Added spoiler tags

This saw it on the Arkham City Board the night it came out, like everyone else I was talking about how hyped. Then I saw this guys spoiler in all caps. I love Batman, loved the game but that was one game I was destined to play through with no spoiler. Alas it didn't work.

Really I dreamt about playing God of War 3 when it came out, having loved the first two games. I was pretty hyped to see the storyline unfold myself.

I remember browsing a gaming forum about impressions from the game, and then I saw a post which ended all hope of enjoying the game itself: it explained in a small sentence, what happened in the very ending of the game... after that I didn't bother to play it for quite some time.

Hmm. I can't think of the absolute worst, but I have had a lot of games spoiled for me by random people on the internet before the game launched. Including: Gears of War 2 and 3, Saints Row: 2, and Red Dead: Redemption. I'm pretty sure there are other, but I can't recall them as of now. Fortunately, I am learning my lesson that I should stay away from forums etc a week before and after a big release.

Arkham City, Deus Ex Human Revolution and Shadow of the Coloussus. I get so angry because I've just paid good money for a game then some tw*t comes along and ruins it for me. That's why I no longer read YouTube comments for games that I haven't completed.

I remember one of the unofficial playstation magazine issues had spoiled one of the later bosses for Silent Hill 2 in their review. Considering how hyped up I was for the game, it was a real bummer to see them put a huge picture showing late game spoilers. Tagging to be courteous.
Showing Eddie as a boss at the end of the prison area. Didn't really see that coming.
Been spoiled on the Halo 3 story and such, but I remember when Bioshock was around the corner, people were posting topic titles with big time spoilers, though in this case, the ones I read were actually false. I played through the game thinking that the big plot twist was revealing you, the player, are Andrew Ryan. Something like that anyway. Was pleasantly surprised to find out that wasn't the case.
