I used to think so, but I think healthy competition fuels this industry. Every market leader succeeds long enough to be seen as evil compared to the underdogs. I don't think any of the current console makers could be trusted to be the only game in town.

I think it would be great if there was a single format, but different levels of console power. So budget or indepenedent titles that don't take a lot of power could work on all three systems, but premiere titles might only work on high end systems. This already kind of happens with one of the consoles being left out of multi-plat premiere titles.

But it won't happen, and that's for the better.

Look what has happened since the Evil 2K took the third-party exclusive rights to MLB, and what has happened since evil EA took exclusive rights to NFL. Both game genres have taken a big dump in terms of quality.

If Utopia were possible, then sure, so idealistically it would be so much better to have just one console. In reality though, I agree with the others that competition is a must for a healthy, quality-filled industry.

I don't think so, but I do like the fact that the overwhelming majority of games I want to buy so far this generation have been available on one console (360). Last generation I had dozens of games for each console, but this time around it's mostly 360 with only six on Wii and none on PS3 yet.

I think that having a single console on the market is impossible so long as our economy remains even remotely close to a capitalist system.

With that in mind, I have absolutely no desire to see only a single console available.

With only one console and no competition devs wouldn't work as hard and not put as much effort into games. Competition drives the free market and pushes it to invent new things such as the Wii Remotes

I wouldn't be happy. Though I don't have any of this gen's console (nor an upgraded PC), I still think competition is good for the industry as many previous posters mentioned. However, if there wasn't a systems war, Sony will likely dominate or Sega will still be alive. Nintendo will be at handheld devices and Microsoft with PC.
