What was your latest wow! moment in gaming? Like when you are playing and something awesome happens or something you didn't expect. I would honestly say the latest for me would have to be when playing the Frontlines: Fuel of War demo. Just playing on the oil map and seeing explosions in the distance.

Or on the Street map and when explosions go off you can hear a nice echo effect. Also, the distinct sound of the Sniper Rifle. That just made me go wow!

So, what was yours?

Super Mario Galaxy, just the whole gravity thing had me smiling for a while, and now LoZ Phantom Hourglass, just the fact that you don't need buttons to play the game.

I don't know why all of my topics are always Epic Fails...

I just wanted to see other peoples awesome moments and maybe check out some of the games. Also, another moment was when I first played Shadow of the Colossus. Trying to climb my fist colossi.

Just recently in the Twilight Princess when I got to the Snowpeak ruins, I was amazed to the point of saying "wow" outloud. It was just so entirely unexpected. One moment I'm talking to a Yeti who invites me to his home (which I'm expecting to be a cave) and then after a quick snowboard trip I find myself at this beautiful decaying mansion. Didn't see that one coming at all, and it really blew me away.

When you step out of the starting dungeon in ES Oblivion, and this one fight in halo 3 where you decide to look up in the sky and you see dozens of banshees and hornets fighting each other while two scarabs are also chilling out down on the ground.

The sequences in Halo 3 where you first fight a scarab, and the one where you fight 2 scarabs, as well as the Chernobyl NPP outdoors sequence near the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

That scarab bit was awesome. I happened to be looking at the right spot at the right time to see what instantly became my all time favourite gaming vehicle scuttle over the complex, and I was like "ok, someone just divided by zero". :D

Another WOW bit in a different way (assuming everyone reading this is up to date with the Half Life 2 episodes, if not LEAVE NOW SPOILAGE ATTACK!!!!)

was in Half Life 2 when you meet the Hunter for the first time and it "kills" Alyx.

I was like "NO!!!! ALYX!! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!!! THAT WASNT PART OF OUR DEAL BLACKHEART!!!"

Valve does a great job of making you connect to characters. :D

Great post. I totally agree.

In Fear there were a lot of great moments with Olga. But the one that I remember the most is the elevator.

The elevator is moving up slowly...

Lights go out...

Scramble around in the darkness to see what's going on.

Lights come on for a split second and there is Olga standing right next to you.

Lights go out...

Lights come on and you're alone in the elevator.

Elevator comes to a stop and game continues as if nothing happened.

Another great moment has to be the climax of Silent Hill 2 in the hotel room. That's when all the pieces of story finally come together, and it's pretty shocking.

A few moments in Shadow of The Colossus.

One was fighting that giant turtle boss that shot energy blasts at you. Riding right under just felt like something I would see in Lord of The Rings.

And the entire boss battle with colossus #8 felt like something out of an action movie.

1) Playing Dead Rising for the first time (more than just the demo).
2) Playing Mass Effect for the first time.
3) Playing Forza 2 for the first time and taking a Ferrari Enzo around the Nurburgring in just under 9 minutes.

My 360 has really given me quite a few "WOW" moments over the past couple weeks. Which is a lot more than I can say for my Wii that has just sat there collecting dust unless I play Metroid Prime 1/2/3 on it.

Off the top of my head the huge plot twist in Knights Of The Old Republic (if you played the game you know what im talking about), the entire Half Life 2 saga and expansions were filled with wow moments, playing Vampire: Bloodlines the first time and realizing how amazing the game is role playing wise.....

That was an awesome moment. Also Oblivion, Vampries: Bloodlines and The Guild. Jade Empire was kind of a small wow for most of the game for me but not at a specific moment.

I'll list the few memorable ones:

1. Resident Evil 4 - just playing it for the first time. The whole game was "wow" to me.

2. Zelda Ocarina of Time - the first I saw Link in 3D. It was awesome.

3. Quake 4 - some of the boss moments wowed me a bit.

4. Odin Sphere - the 2D animation is amazing.

5. Call of Duty 4 - the graphics were "wow-factor."

6. God of War 2 - some of its moments blew me away.

7. Shadow of the Colossus - the entire concept of taking down mountain-sized bosses was "wow."

8. World of Warcraft - this game is "WoW!":P

I've had a few these past few weeks.

-Shadow of Colossus, just the visual effects and the fact that you're taking down a giant.

-MGS4, all of the revealing secrets in the game and the awesome ending fight.

-WoW, Getting to BT for the first time and seeing the detail they put into the fights and the visuals.

Just finished Crysis recently, and was pretty much wowed for the entire last 1/4 of the game or so.

There were some moments in HL2 Episode Two too, like at the very beginning where there's the portal shockwave and then the train bridge collapses. Just enjoyed that, for some reason...

Oh yeah, speaking of Portal...that whole game, too.

Ico - The gorgeous sprawling backdrops

MGS3 - Absolutely everything, at times it was hard to say it was a last gen game

God of War 2 - The collosus fight, and where Kratos pulls the island on the chains

Uncharted - The cutscenes

MGS4 - The Bike cut scene

DMC4 - Racking up my first SSS combo

PoP: Sands of Time - Read the reason for Ico, plus some of the acrobatic puzzles were awesome

Zelda: Wind Waker - The gorgeous cel shading and the animation made me smile

WoW - Just the size of it

Ok, I'll stop

I picked up soul calibur 4 the other day and decided to try everyone's instant kill teqnique. I was pretty shocked after I saw Cassandra's,I didn't suspect hers to be so... weird... that's not exactly a WOW, more like an OMGWTF.
