Shit is getting out of control. Article here

You're telling me im going to pay $100 mother fucking dollars for a collectors edition, and i don't even get the game. "OOOOOOHHHH HHHHEEEEELLLLLL NOOOOOO!!!!." I'm sorry, but if you buy this i am assuring you that you are the biggest dumbass on the face of this planet. I don't care how rich you are, how much of a die hard fan you are. If you buy it, your really freaking stupid. Sorry but it's the truth. You know I really hope that not one single person buys this just to show how stupid this is. And we can't let this happen guys. It might start out as one game, but other companies will take notice, and will take on the same stupid ass practice. Next thing we know BF5 and Call of duty black ops shit 3 (LOL) will make a collectors edition and won't have a game with it (and if you know EA you know they will be the first mother fuckers to try it out.) So please do not buy into this scandle. That's all i ask for. I would like to be able to keep on buying collectors editon of games in the future without having to think about how retarded it is buying it.

It's not so hard to wrap your head around this: it's a statue with an artbook, sold separately from the game. What is so hard to understand? If you buy a Zelda action figure, do you bitch because it doesn't come with a game?

This guy has a point. But I must say that's REALLY over priced for a small toy and a few pieces of colored paper...

@Black_Knight_00: While I understand and agree with what you're saying, Bethesda could have marketed this better.

"Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Edition" really suggests it's an edition of the actual game release rather than a separate collector's item.

@IndianaPwns39: @darkmark91: I agree with both of you: it's overpriced (like all collector's editions) and the name is confusing. Still, screaming bloody murder about it makes no sense: it's simply merchandise sold separately from the game. This guy thinks this will become a common practice and what if it did? Nothing would change. You'd still be buying overpriced crap, only separately from the game.

@crazyman158: Take a few deep breaths and calm down. It's just merchandise for fans. You're making an enormous deal out of basically nothing.

There is a solution to all of this...

Buy the game. Avoid the collector's edition.

Problem solved...

@crazyman158: IT's something that's a collectors item, it's in the title. Collector's Edition. Not everyone wants it. Jeez, get over it. Just buy the freaking game then and avoid the CE

@Lhomity: It is a big deal. I often buy collectors edition of games I really look forward to. For example I currently have the Watch Dogs Ded Sec edition (AKA collectors edition) on pre order. And it comes with the game and things that are just as valuable as this. If this product flies of the shelves and a lot of people buy it devs will take note of this. They too will make their game's collectors edition come with no game and will totally ruin buying a collectors edition.

@crazyman158: No offense, but you're being just a little paranoid, don't you think? First of all, this is never going to 'fly off the shelf'. Secondly, even if it did that doesn't mean other devs will just start doing the same thing, especially when they seem to sell collector's editions pretty well as they are already.

Of course, there are plenty of pros for doing it this way when you think about it.

  • They don't have to create a package for each platform the game is on
  • Is a good option for players who buy a digital copy of the game but still want some fan kit
  • might suit those people who buy the game on it's own, enjoy it, and then decide they want the CE later

Japanese games have been doing stuff like this for a very long time. Some are entirely sold separately. Some will just include a code for a digital copy of the game. Some are for games that are digital only. That Phantom Breaker beat-em-up on Vita comes to mind. NIS' upcoming Hotaru no Nikki is another if memory serves me right.

UbiSoft's Child of Light also has a deluxe edition package on the way, though the game is downloadable only. There's no reason digital buyers shouldn't be able to enjoy some fan merch.

As I said in the thread that already covered this topic.....

Don't like it? Don't buy it. It really is that simple.

You cant say whats a scam or not when you aren't forced to buy it because one persons value is not the same as someone elses.

Besides dead space 3 did the same thing and no one complained. And what about artbooks? Is it a scam to pay extra money for a book of a games art when the game isn't included? Tshirts? Minecraft foam pick axes don't come with the game either. What about figures? Or any number of other things that are game related that don't include the game? You can still buy wolfenstein by itself. But most gamers are self entitled little shits that are never happy with anything and want nothing more than to complain about the most insignificant shit possible

To refer to the package as a "collector's EDITION" without including the game itself is misleading. To call it something like a collector's package or Wolfy's Swag Bag or something would go a long way toward clearing up the issue.

But I think the OP's got a point- the average price of a CE is $100, and it generally includes an art book, supplemental material, exclusive DLC, and the game itself. If other publishers take up this model, you'll be getting the same shit but you'll be paying $160.

I agree, you can't call something an edition of a product and leave the main thing out, that's like releasing out a special edition of a book and you only get some fancy leather binding, figurine and a bookmark. It's obvious what they were trying at, and I don't like it.

I'd agree the price is quite steep since it's fan merchandise and the whole name of it sounds like it's a special edition of the game, but aslong as they inform that the game isn't part of the package then I have no issues with it.
