Xenogears is hands down my favorite game of all time. And yes I know another thread from me but you know what big news....SE has officially announced that Xenogears is finally coming to PSN! Great News Indeed, so I know many of you out there are big fans of this game. Its my favorite for numerous reasons, and I Know its not a perfect game, but its gameplay and its story to me are un challenged in gaming. If you never played it the PSN release is coming soon!!! Also add that Vagrant Story, Threads of Fate and a couple other games have been confimred to be coming to PSN as well!

About time, the Japanese PSN had Xenogears for like 3 years already. Finally will be able to play it.

Yes, all PS1 games are available to play on the PSP. I've been playing Gaia Seed for a while on that awesome little system, now.

Oh man, thank God! I've been waiting for this for ages now. I'd always be pretty bumbed out when I would scroll through the Japanese PSN store and see Xenogears there.

It's my favorite game of all time too with Suikoden 2 at a close second. I've still got both games CDs but I'm glad others will get the chance to experience the epicness that is Xenogears. Now if only Square would make a decent sequel. Xenosaga was alright but that just didn't cut it for me.

I agree with you. I was not keen on Xenosaga either. I would love to see a true sequel, and remember that Xenogears is not the end of the story. I donot know if you read perfect works, but Xenogears is actually the fifth episode of a six episode saga.....so maybe we can see that Sixth Episode!? None the less Xenogears imo had an effect on me not only as a gamer, but on a personal level. The game really had me question faith and the meaning of it, and its something I up hold to this day. I know some will say its just a videogame, but if you played it, its story is so deep that you will understand.

That's great news. Even though I don't have a ps3. I have the original black label xenogears for the psx though, definitely one of the best experiences on any consoles.

If you let the credits roll long enough it states that Xenogears was part 5 of 6

Xenosaga was parts 1-3 so part 4 would have been about the events that lead to the starship crashing into the planet at the start of Xenogears and Part 6 would have filled in the gaps regarding the golden monoliths and there true purpose in the universe. Because the series is really about who built them, why do they show up at important points in a planet's history, and what race could have build them but we'll never get the answer because the series was abandonded. Xenogears is an all time favorite of mine too I've even heard it called "The FFVII Killer" and that second to last fight in the game (there is a something of a "joke" fight at the very end) is THE HARDEST BOSS FIGHT I'VE EVER SEEN OMFG !!!!. The main boss draws power from 4 other robots so your charactor has to beat them first and only then is the main boss weak (and I use that term very loosely) enough to fight but it still took me about 15hrs. I'd spend about 4 hours playing and it would crush my party, I'd adjust tactactics then it would take 5 hours to crush my party, and then after a 6 hour session for once it did less damage than average with one of it's lesser attacks and it was that 600 point drop in damage that allowed my charactor to get the finishing blow I beat it with 500HP left (keep in mind my charactor started that fight 290,000 HP)

As much as I'd like a continuation of Xeno-whatever, unless Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga are involved, it's not gonna amount to much. Considering their relationship with Square after Xenogears "failed", and the sales failure of Xenosaga after Episode I (honestly, those that hated Xenosaga so much likely didn't make it to Episode III, which is by far the best part and most similar to Xenogears in every way), they don't seem interested anymore, and both publishers don't seem interested either.

It's a shame, though. Xenosaga Episode III was the last truly great RPG storyline as far as I'm concerned, and that was almost five years ago. No game has surpassed Xenogears in story in over thirteen years, either. Both series were way too ambitious not only for the technology of the time, but for gamer mentality, and likely still are far too much for the vast majority to handle even today. I'm sure at some point in the future someone will attempt something of that magnitude again, and hopefully gamers will have finally gotten sick of their shallow mindless shooters to actually realize how much more depth gaming can achieve if given a chance.

Xenogears finally hitting PSN is a good thing though. A lot of people have wanted to play it but couldn't since it was so rare for a long time. Any interest in the series can only help our chances are something in the future. I'd absolutely love a high-def remake, with BlazBlue quality sprites and redone environments, as well as fixing up the translation a bit, charming as it may seem, but alas...

I hate the fact I have to run these games on an imported PS3.

Xenosaga has nothing to do with Xenogears. Tetsuya Takahashi, himself has confirmed this and says its a spiritual successor but not a cannonical follow up or prequel to Xenogears. Though I will agree with you that Deus is a challenging final boss. I know some consider Urobolus the final boss but not me. Its too easy and its more like that fight with Sephiroth at the end of FFVII, not Safer Sephiroth, but the one where yuo just let the limit break charge and thats that.

I know all about that, I know more about Xenogears than one would assume considering I followed both that game and Xenosagas development. Heck I remember when Xenogears was called Project Noah. None the less though I donot like Xenosaga, and I did play and complete all three episodes. They just were meh....the characters were not as endearing as Fei, Elly, or say Bart. I did not care for Shion, Jr or any of the of the other characters as I did in Xenogears. And while Episode 3 is the best one in Xenosaga, it was just that series was drawn out and overly a bore fest.

My in box has been glitchy unfortunatley....none the less, as far as Xenogears, if you want something RPG with Mechs check out the earlier Front Mission games. They are Strategy RPGS with mechs, and they just released Frotn Mission 3 onto PSN the other day.

Nope its considered a successor not a true successor. There are elements that the games share, but aside from that they are not related cannonically. Things like the Zophar and other such things appear in Xenosaga and Xenogears but aside from that, they are completely unrelated in terms of story.

And while Episode 3 is the best one in Xenosaga, it was just that series was drawn out and overly a bore fest.

I thought that Xenosaga took place in Xenogear's future.

Nope, Xenosaga takes place in the distant past as Kos-Mos is suspected to be the being known as Emeralda Kasim (whom Fei finds in the ruins of the lost city) there is also specualtion that Hammer is the same charactor in both games as to how that can be who can say for sure

No no no, they are not the same. I get a little bugged when they say they are the same. Tetsuya Takashi who is the creator of both Xenogears and Xenosaga has on numerous occasions confirmed that Xenosaga and Xenogear are not related in terms of being in the same time line. Again they share same elements but they are completely different stories.....These are words of Tetsuya Takashi himself comfirming this...Esmeralda is not Kos Mos, and Fei did not just find Esmeralda. In one of his past lives, as Kim Kasim, he created Esmeralda from scratch, because the Elly of that life time could not have children. She is not related to Kos Mos in anyway shape or form, and Kos Mos is Xenosaga. Again they are not related in terms of being the same time line. They share the same elements to many degrees but again they are not the same story. The Hammer of Xenosaga is not the mutant rat hammer of Xenogears....they are just characters named Hammer used in different games.

Yeah, they're pretty much unrelated except for Nephilim is probably the first incarnation of Elly and obviously the Zohar and Anima have some semblance. I know Xenosaga was done by the same team who moved over to Monolith I played through all 3 episodes in hopes it would eventually tie into the Xenogears story. Or at least lead up to it. And sure Xenosaga was a good game. Not that great, as I found Suikoden 5 to be much better in terms of gameplay. Sure all the Suikoden games are unrelated, much like the FF series but they keep some of the elements that work well in each game. There was just no connection for the most part between Xenogears and Xenosaga, which from a fan standpoint disappointed me a bit. I'm still banking on Xenogears getting some sort of decent sequel or prequel. Or if not, at least an anime. I know it's far fetched but the Xenosaga anime sucked. And Parasite Eve is getting it's long awaited 3rd game so maybe just maybe there's a little hope for this game too.

Well Suikoden is a little different than Xenogears and Xenosagas relationship. The games do take place in the same universe and they are cannonically connected, how ever they are done in a way that while they are in the same world you could say the stories themselves are stand alone. Suikoden 2 takes place a few years afte Suikoden, while Suikoden 3 takes place 16 years after the first two games in the series.... So they are in the same world and timeline....

That's good for people that don't want to spend the money or that want it for the PSP. I already own it, great game. When I want PS1 games I'd just buy them online at Amazon or Ebay since it all works in the PS3 though.

Not that great, as I found Suikoden 5 to be much better in terms of gameplay. Sure all the Suikoden games are unrelated,

Most of the games mention past titles and have some of the same characters, they are all connected in some way. Suikoden 2 needs to come to the PSN. If I want Xenogears I'll just buy it for $30, it really don't matter, but paying $150+ for Suikoden 2 is a bit more pricey. I was lucky enough to get it much cheaper years ago but more people need to play that game.
