So I got all 3 Xenosaga games (NTSC-UC) via Amazon recently. Not gonna touch Episode One until I'm done with Tales of Legendia though.

Anywho, back when the first game was newly released (a time when I wasn't much into RPGs other than FF), I heard stories of the game freezing during transition between loading screens. Especially cut-scenes. I also heard that this was due to the game's Dual-Layered medium nature, and it even caused copies in Japan to be recalled.

Was this an exclusive issue in Japan? Has it been addressed in recent prints of the game? What other glitches should I expect? Spoiler-free please. Thanks.

I know on other consoles dual layer discs are more susceptible to scratches, and thus creating freezing/glitches.

Hm.... I've bought three different copies of Xenosaga and none of them worked... maybe it is because they are dual layered and there is something wrong with my PS2? I still have episode II and III that work just fine, I just don't want to start them until I beat the first game.

I played the first 2 on the fatty and the 3rd on a slim. No issues whatsoever.

Rogue Galaxy on the other hand....great game but so much loading frustration...

Really??? That is disappointing to hear. That is one of the few games in my collection I am keeping to play at a later date (have not played it yet). I wonder if the same issues happen on a BC PS3

I have all three, but have only beat the first 1. Completing the trilogy is on my to-do list. As far as I remember, Episode 1 had some problems on my fat PS2. But I wouldn't give that much thought because my fat PS2 had problems with everyone of my games. It worked like a charm when I got a Slim PS2.

I've played the games again and again and have never had a problem with them, nor have I heard of such problems.

Yes, as I recall, it has something to do with the physical weight of the disc versus the spinning power of the drive in the slim PS2. In any case, I could only get it to read and boot the disc one out of every 19 or 20 attempts by the time I finished the game.

I expect the problem is not present on the BC PS3 though.

A friend of mine experienced issues where the cutscenes would not render properly.

My PS3 and my friend's PS3 played all three of them with no issues. Never had the dual-layer issue on my fat PS2 either. I also never experienced the Deus freeze glitch in Xenogears on my PS2 or PS3. Must just be lucky.

It's not the DVD causing the problem, it's the PS2's laser. So if your PS2 is old and busted it might have trouble
