Is anyone else excited for these two games? I know with the excitement over Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, Batman Arkham City... ETC. that there's a lot of games to play. I noticed both games have a lot of similarities. Both have 3 playable characters, both are action-rpg with a lot of beat 'em up components. I love the worlds of x-men and middle earth so I am pretty excited for both games. Anyone else excited or do you have reservations??

I'm excited about War in the North, but i'm still on the fence as to whether or not I'll actually buy it.

war in the north looks good, but if its a linear progression game like the other ones ill probably pass on it until it reaches 10 bucks or so.

That's how I feel for the most part about War in the North. Might wait until it hits the 20 dollar area.

Love it or hate it, the concept of pre-order bonuses isn't going anywhere, and X-Men: Destiny is joining the trend.

Its suposed to be a massively open world non linier RPG that is highly co-op based, it supports every kind of co-op which in my opinion is amazing, i have always wanted to run around middle earth with my mates. all looking totally bad ass. so to sum upyes i am excited!

I loved the LOTR games on the ps2 but have yet to see anything great done with LOTR since. War in the North is going to surprise everyone. I've always thought LOTR was perfect for the RPG genre. Now take the combat form the LOTR ps2 games, combine it with a RPG game design & you have a game that can't fail.

I'm a little worried the reviews won't be so great & everyone will overlook the game but i gurantee the game wil be good. My instincts are always right.

im not interested in either and im a huge LotR fan. i lost interest in war in the north as soon as they announced it to be a diablo type game. the books have never been about finding the best equipment and that element is unavoidable in diablo inspired games.

im not the biggest xmen fan or anything, but ill like a good piece of xmen fiction every now and then. from what ive read, destiny seems to have a similar disregard for the broad themes of the source material (dont get this mixed up with small crap like magneto's parents dieing in some obscure way that never made it into the adaptations). one of the things i like about xmen is that the mutants are born with their powers. allowing players to shuffle around powers in case they mess up a build (or really just to choose their build) seems to go against the main drama of the fiction.

they both just come off as trying to stick well known franchises into profitable genres despite whether or not the two fit together.

well just my opinion, linear games tend to be short. I like to explore places, find hidden stuff, solving puzzles, and while doing so killing things lol.

when i hear a game has linear gameplay, i just lose interest in it.

I respect your position on this, except that I feel game developers need to utilize game techniques that will make for a good video game just like movie makers use film adaptation techniques to make a good movie from the source material. While I agree that using tired-old formula video game/movie making is not the answer.

while I tend to agree...I much prefer sandbox games, I must point out that linear games are still fun...like the uncharted series.

you know, id probably play a well made LotR game based on a preexisting game as a model, but only if it actually fit the books. a slash & loot game just doesnt fit. i do like that parties are being put in for fellowships, but what about the sense of exploration or drama?

I'm interested in LOTR: War in the North, but I honestly don't think they could have picked a worse release date. Still, the game will sell on the LOTR name alone, so that's a plus. But it's hard for me to get excited when Dark Souls comes out before it and Skyrim is soon after.

I'm interested in LOTR War of the North, especially since there aren't many co-op games like it on the ps3 that are worth getting. Hopefully it'll end up being a good game, and from what they've shown it doesn't look to be that bad.
