Okay so I am planning on getting the new Yakuza 2 because of some great recommendations, also there is a chance that this game will have a limited run. But I was wondering if the first one was good? I found out that you don't need to play the first one to get into the second because you get informed with flashbacks dealing with the first story.

So was the first Yakuza good enough to purchase?

You can get a used copy of Yakuza for less than $20....I saw one for $10 at a blockbuster. It's better to just get it and see for yourself. I'm a personal fan of SEGA so i liked it.

A lot of people say it was like GTA -- it isn't. It's more like Squares game The Bouncer merged with SEGA's Shenmue.

It is a masterful game that has great dialogue and story and in no time you will feel like you are a part of the game world.

The only downside is that each battle has a pretty long load time just before it, but if you can look pass that it's a brilliant game.

The core combat is nothing special (although it's entertaining enough) but the true value of this game comes in the story and atmosphere. One of the best video game stories ever, and the game makes the Tokyo setting very, very authentic. Definite buy if you can mind a little repetitiveness in gameplay.

its interactive movie. it has very little gameplay and almost all of them are fighting. if it wouldnt be clunky, this game would be one of the greatest games... if you like watching movies in games, its great and imo its really good because story and the main character are good enough to keep me playing it.

It's an excellent game, a real japanese pantomine flavour to it. I would like to see this game in a next-gen format because the SD display of the first one on an LCD widescreen is a little annoying. But as noted above, the story line and atmospheric pace of the game make it hard not to like.

The two game back to back could be considered to be one single game..... Other than the VA, the two merge together very well. They even handled the unlocking of skills, well from the first to the second....

I will tell you this.... if you dont' like the first. I can't see how you'll like the second. With the exception of the continued story, they are pretty much exactly the same. Just that the second has all the minigames of the first, and has added more ontop of those.

Should I get Yakuza 1 or 2? Yakuza 1 is $20 new and Yakuza 2 is $30. I am also new to the series.

It's not really important, but the first one was a good game by it's own right and you should really check it for the hell of it.

Alright guys thanks! I did get both and I am really enjoying the first game. The story is really interesting and cool!

I think the first one is worth it for the story.
