3DO Both have a few decent games but the Jaguar controller looks terrible.Eikichi-Onizuka
Agreed. No way I want to play games on this.
Wasn't the 3DO 700$ when it came out?
No way would my parents pay for that.
Guess I'm going with a Jaguar...
I can actually relate to this, because in 1993 I had sold off my previous game systems and was console-less. The answer? Neither. I knew both were going to be an utter waste of time and money back then, and I still think so (for those saying 3DO >> Jaguar, okay, sure, but that ain't saying much, especially considering how expensive both systems were back then).
Assuming money is no object, 3DO for sure. It had good games. Need For Speed alone destroys the Jaguar catalogue.

The Goldstar 3DO was much cheaper than the Panasonic oneyou think 600 is much cheaper than 700?
...hmmm... I got mine for somewhere b/w $200 and $300Today I would say 3DO, but when I was a kid I would say Jaguar.
The Jaguar was actually quite exciting compared to the 16-bit consoles like SNES and Genesis due to pretty graphics, but it had poor support and some really bad games (like Kasumi Ninja for example). It did have a solid Doom port, Rayman and AvP, though.

I would buy neither. If those were my only choices I probably would've spent more time doing homework or playing monopoly, but I would NOT spend $500+ for a VG console.

Jaguar was $250 dollars when it came out, and it had a price drop not far into its lifespan...Well i'm 30, so i was 13 in 93 and at the time i wanted a Jag becasue it seemed more like a normal console but with 64 BIT POWER YEA! But looking back now the 3DO is a lot funner I have both and enjoy using the 3dO more.
I have both systems and anyone who says Jaguar has a bad library hasn't played enough of its games. That said, 3DO gets a slight advantage due to Super Street Fighter II Turbo. I'm sick of teenagers on the internet making fun of systems and games they've never played just because of perception.savebattery
:)
What games did 3DO even have?Pink_KikkaRoad Rash , Need For Speed, Alone in The Dark , Killing Time, arguably the best version of Wolf3D , the best port (at the time) of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo , The best non Neo Geo version of Samurai Shodown , Gex , Doom. there are others too, but since ive never owned the system , I don't have any extensive knowledge about its library.

It wasn't really 64-bit, though. More like early 32-bit and they said it was 64-bit because it had two 16-bit processors and one 32-bit processor.
Jaguar also had no dedicated 3D hardware meaning it's 3D performance was a lot worse than Sega Saturn and PS1.
Well in that case I'd go with 3DO.Pink_Kikkaobviously most of these games are on other systems, but in all of these cases, the 3DO version was the original (Road Rash , Need For Speed , Killing Time) , or the best at the time (Wolf3D SSF2Turbo)

I thought people knew the whole "bit" issue was overblown , far , far beyong proportion , and means nearly nothing . The Xbox was a 32bit system , but was obviously far more powerful then the N64.I remember my friend got a Panasonic 3DO for Christmas. What a spectacular piece of ****. His old man owned an electronics store so they had all types of hilarious things like laser disc and minidisc playerswstfldwait , your friend had a 3DO and a laserdisc player?????? how can anyone dislike that.....
jaguar.. for tempest 2000... i already have the ps1 version.. but i would like to play it with that crappy looking jaguar controller someday:)

But back then the number of bits was used to portray how powerful a console is, hence the 16-bit wars, 32-bit wars, Atari Jaguar "64-bit graphics" and Nintendo 64.

None of which reflects upon the quality of the actual games. Play Rayman, Raiden, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Tempest 2000, Zool 2, Super Burnout, and Alien vs Predator and then talk to me about the Jaguar. In a choice between those two. I would have choosen the 3DO since back then The 32-bit era was dawning. The 699.00 Panasonic 3DO seemed like it could have "made it" back then. There was not way I'd ever get a $700.00 gift from my parents ever. Plus the price of a game or two and a extra controller. Not my Parents in 1993 or Ever.

I can imagine all the programmers just laughing at the kids for believing the marketingWell it wasn't all just marketing. 16-bit consoles did bring "twice the graphics and sound" (or even more) compared to 8-bit ones. And Genesis' "Blast-processing", despite the ridiculous name, had some real basis since Genesis' CPU was really twice faster than SNES' CPU.

Nothing to rave about, really.
the jaguar does have good games as well... although...yeah i'd rather the 3do as wellDefinitely the 3DO because it does actually have a few good games.

The 3DO simply had a better game. I donot consider it a bad console as I do the CDI or the Jaguar, however its certainly not the best. Its got some good games, and it is surely better imo then the Jaguar.
Tempest a solid puzzle gamenameless12345Uhh.... What? Tempest? Puzzle game? Sorry, but you're not even close.

Yep to me Tempest was the only good game for the Atari Jaguar and it did get ports on other consoles. Tempest 2000 was a fun little game and it was not a Puzzle game, it was a fixed shooter, rail shooter possibly its been a long time since I have played this game though!
