No doubt about it.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Excellent gameplay, freedom, huge map and fun side missions. Rockstars Magnum Opus and the best open world game to date.
I would say probably Thief 2:
but I gotta say Oblivion was absolutely amazing... maybe a tie! It was a totally new experience in gaming for me...
And I have to at least give an honorable mention to AD&D - Pools of Darkness because for the time period it was totally outstanding:
I think I have to say Shadow of the Colossus. That was probably my most anticipated game ever and I think it's unbelievably good. By the way, does anyone know whether it looks better on a HDTV when you play it on a PS3 as oppossed to a PS2. I've played it on my PS2 with component cables on my HDTV, but it looks sort of meh. I was wondering if the PS3 helps it look better in any way. Thanks.
Ahhhhh. The good old days. When I could just sit back and play my Donkey Kong on my then-great Nintendo 64. Donkey Kong 64 just had that fun feeling to it, you know? Just a break from those intense action-shooter games. A day when you don't have to worry about getting shot is a good day. RFObi22
DK64 is my second favorite game :D
Super Mario Bros. 3. It has not aged at all and never gets boring. I play it rarely now but when I do I couldn't be happier.
