Videogame soundtracks tend to go underappreciated. Simply because they are in videogames is a huge factor in making others disrespect them. If we go look around at the best of videogame soundtracks, you can often find soundtracks as good as if not better than a movie. For instance, Alan Wake's soundtrack. It is simply astounding.
Alan Wake's soundtrack is immensely beautiful, and definitely one of the best soundtracks of all time, for movie or game. "Welcome to Bright Falls" is one of the best tracks I've heard in anything, ever.
Halo's soundtrack is also brilliantly cinematic, and has some tracks that are bound to impress others. The Truth and Reconciliation Suite is so simply powerful it deserves to have an award named after it.
Dead Space also has a singularly impressive soundtrack, with some of the most atmospheric and intense music I've heard for a survival horror game. It's comparable to Alien 3.
One often overlooked soundtrack is Crysis. Crysis has an incredibly aggressive and powerful soundtrack. Guardians is without doubt one of the best themes I've heard.
Mass Effect also has a great soundtrack, though it's mostly the main theme that steals the show; most other tracks are subpar, though the main theme more than makes up for it.
Bioshock has one of the greatest soundtracks I've ever heard, with it's overlooked main theme conveying some brilliant emotion in there.
Max Payne also had a great soundtrack.
And there's still tons! Medal of Honor, God of War, Assassin's Creed, The Elder Scrolls IV, etc...
So, what were YOUR favorite video game soundtracks?
