What is your favorite final mission or 'last boss' fights from a game? Off the top I would have to say the entire MGS franchise. Liquid, Solidus, The Boss, Liquid Ocelot were all epic battles and exceeded my expectations, especially MGS3 and MGS4. God Of War 2 and 3, Ocarina Of Time and Uncharted 2 had some pretty good boss battles. I hear Mass Effect 2's suicide mission is pretty epic but I am still working on loyalty missions before I tackle that. Off the top I would have to say the entire MGS franchise. The Suicide Mission is pretty epic, just beat it again last night for another trilogy playthrough. However, last night was the first night Ive actually played Lair of The Shadow Broker... I thought fighting the SB was pretty badass, to be honest lol.

Mother Brain ~ Super Metroid Nothing has yet to surpass it for me. Lots of better "mid-game" boss battles, but nothing from the end. It was pretty much the first game to affect me emotionally, and I loved that it was revisited in 3D CGI at the opening of Other M.

Co-sign. I finished the Shadow Broker the other day and that was definitely the best mission so far besides Mordin's loyalty mission. Definitely looking forward to that Suicide Mission and seeing my Normandy upgrades in action.

Off the top of my head:

-Aforementioned Mother Brain
-Emperor Ing/Dark Samus combo at the end of Metroid Prime 2
-Ares from the original God of War
-King K. Rool in Donkey Kong 64 (Funny as hell, very creative)
-Yami from Okami (Don't see this one brought up often, and it's absolutely amazing)

1) Planescape Torment (PC) - The Transcendent One - Definitely my favorite "last boss" battle, just by the sheer genius and varieties in which you can deal with him. I defeated him through pure conversation...and not only that, it was one of the most intense and interesting final boss confrontations I've ever experienced in a game. How many games can claim to give you the option to defeat the final boss through pure conversation, and still have it be one of the most interesting final boss confrontations you'll encounter.

2) Shadow of the Colossus (PS2 / PS3) - Malus aka the Sixteenth Colossi - Huge and towering...this final boss isn't just a "boss"...he's basically a level, and an epic one at that.

3) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Gamecube) - Fighting alongside Tetra / Princess Zelda to take down Ganon - I've always enjoyed the final boss fights of the Zelda games, but what sets the one in Wind Waker above the rest and allows it to be among my favorites is this is the first time that Princess Zelda aka Tetra is fighting alongside you the whole battle. Sure, she's controlled by the computer, but it gave a whole new dynamic to the fight and her, instead of the cliche damsel and distress that we had seen Nintendo Princesses adopt before. Instead, Tetra / Princess Zelda in Wind Waker is more then willing to fight right beside you two-to-two with Ganon the whole time, and it's her teamwork plan that allows you to deliver the final blow to take him out.

4) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Ganon - At the time, it was a big epic boss to cap off a big epic game.

5) Serious Sam: The First Encounter (PC) - Ugh-Zan III - Huge and over-the-top.

6) Doom (PC) - The Spiderdemon - Most here may be too young to remember this or not even know what I'm referring to...but at the time, The Spiderdemon was one bad mofo in a game that revolutionized gaming at the time.

7) Metroid (NES) - Mother Brain .

8) Diablo II (PC) - Diablo - Something about finally encountering Diablo in Diablo II felt epic.

9)Portal (PC) - GLaDOS - an entertaining final boss.

I see two mentions for The Mother Brain from the original Metroid. How could I forget about that epic fight? Time to dust off the old NES and fire this baby up!

Whenever I think boss battle Andross from Starfox 64 comes to mind for some reason. That's probably my favorite. Ocarina of Time has great ones too of course.

Jeez guys, you ever heard of spoiler warnings? Wouldn't be too surprised if this thread get's closed ^^

So, spoiler for Wild Arms 2:

The Lord Blazer Battle, though not difficult (the actual "real" final boss is a battle before him, so this is more like a philosophic battle), it's just amazingly good made, the music is an epic orchestrated version of the standard main theme of the game, cutscenes that really get your emotions to the fullest and a nice battle mechanic as well as setting.

You could also play Metroid: Zero Mission, which is basically an excellent remake of the original Metroid.

God of War had horrible final bosses. However, a lot of bosses before the final bosses were some of the best in games.

Can't think of a specific final boss. But the bosses from arkham city were really enjoyable (even if they were quite easy), particularly solomon grundy and rhaz al gul. Nomination for worst boss battle ever- the hellhound from the chapter 1 of the witcher.

I'm going to say Kefka from Final Fantasy VI. The Dancing Mad theme really added to the battle, plus Kefka was damn hard when I first fought him.
