Everyone has a game like this, mine has to be Spartan: Total Warrior, and Destruction Derby Arenas (74 & 57 metascore, respectively)

What about your games that you love, but critics don't?

Shadow the Hedgehog

Even though it was far from perfect, I had a great time with it. It deserved more than just a 4.8.

.hack//G.U. - Was given 6 and 5's here at GS throughout the 3 volumes, but I love the game to death. Spartan: Total Warrior, I also agree.

Ohh, I have many. Some include: DRIV3R, Resident Evil: Survivor and Dead Aim (all PS2), and many of the Wrestling games across all consoles. I have to say though, I have never found ANYBODY (at least, from memory) that actually even LIKES Hour of Victory. Lol I am aware of its' bugs and whatnot but I enjoy it. Some people may find this funny :P but yeah, I enjoy WWII FPS games, and this just happens to be one of them. Same goes with Battle For The Pacific. Oh, nowhere near my favourite games may I add, but I wanted to mention them because nobody likes them.

Not my favorite game, but I loved Doom 64, I thought it was a great game and definitely a welcome change from the PC and PS iterations.

Another great game that comes to mind that was bashed critically was White Knight Chronicles.

I thought Doom 64 was awesome as well. I also really enjoyed the original Killzone even the it has a Metacritic score of 70/100. Beat the game countless times and spent even more time playing multiplayer.

Two gamecube games come to mind.

The first is Custom robo. That's a game that I just don't understand why people would give it a bad review. There really isn't any glaring flaw to it, and it's just a really fun game.

Second is Zoids battle legends. I have no clue how I actually ended up owning it either, because it's not the sort of game I'd usually buy and I don't know anything about Zoids, but I did enjoy it. I understand why it got bad review though.

Here's my top 5 games that people say are pretty bad but I find true enjoyment in.

1. Fighting Force (i think it's a great beat-em-up for PS1 and N64, and it's even more fun with a friend)

2. Mr. Mosquito (it's weird but fun!)

3. Superman 64 (go ahead and say I'm crazy, but I enjoyed it, sure the controls are bit rough but I conquered them :D )

4. Goldeneye: Rogue Agent (sure the enemies are brutal in this game, it's still fun and follows a sub-par story)

and as always Ashley is in my game collection again :P

but

5. DRIV3R as well, it's a good Driver game no doubt, but the controls are once again freaky bad (at least for me they are) but I always find myself playing it from time-to-time, particulllary making up my own missions in Free Roam mode and writing them down by saying, that the mission is you have to travel to one part of the city and steal this car and hurt a certain someone :P, I do this with GTA games as well, just to have a how you say creative imagination :D.

BIG Shout-out to: the Rampage series, I think these games are so much fun, I mean destroying an actual city makes me say this is awesome, sure the cities don't look exactly the way they look , like going to London and seeing Big Ben or Westminster Abbey and destroying them, but it still makes me say it's fun, I will admit though, the Rampage games that came out for PS2 and Wii are flops IMO. :)

The Sonic 3D games. They're downright horrible at times and unnecessarily difficult but I can't help but smile whenever I see the credits screen after a frustrating campaign.

Resident Evil: Survivor. It's so bad it's good. HVGN's playthrough of it brought back alot of hilarious memories.

" A PicTUUURE. NO! This is ME! IEEEEEEE am Vincent!"

Superman 64 (go ahead and say I'm crazy, but I enjoyed it, sure the controls are bit rough but I conquered them :D )

rwallacefan

Dude, you're not alone. I beat it as well. Dragging the frozen ice blocks of Jimmy and Lois across the narrow walkway was torture. But I kept replaying after failing again and again til I beat it. Ending was like "All that for this 5-second scene? WTF!". Man I had too much free time back then LOL!

It's not a legacy game. But:

Sonic

I have trouble understanding why some people call this game the worst game of all time.

But as far as legacy games go....:

InuYasha Secret of the Cursed Mask

.hack

Fullmetal Alchemist games

Naruto Ultimate Ninja PS2 games

I could probably compile a very long list for this, but I'll just go with a purchase I made today.

X-Men Arcade.

I like this game a lot, but it has very underwhelming reviews.

The King's Field series on PS1 & PS2. It has a cult following, but never got hugely popular. And the critics seem to give these games a 6-7 out of 10 on average. I absolutely adore these games. They're action-RPGs played from the first-person perspective in a somewhat open 3D world. The games have a high-emphasis on exploration and a high learning-curve. It gives a ominous feeling of dread and lonliness as you explore it's corridors, caves, and castles. And it has a lot of RPG-elements such as finding and using gear, leveling-up your character, magic, and a money-system. I get totally immersed when playing them.

Mario Kart for sure, I was stunned when I saw it got a 6.4 on here. It's a Nintendo 64 STANDARD for Christ's sake! Also, people hated them it but I actually liked Sonic Adventure 1 & 2. As well as Fighting Force for the N64, and as said it's much better when you are playing 2-Player. Also Castlevania 64 was awesome too, loved playing as Carrie. Aaaand I think I'll round it off with Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. Tho not SHREDDED by critics it's still not highly thought of for it's camera angles, glitches and off humor but it's a game I look back at as bringing me a lot of joy to conquer and beat as a little kid.

Rush 2 for the N64. Most critics called it a butchered entry into the Rush series and a severely inferior sequel to San Francisco Rush, but It's my favorite entry in the series, as well as my standard for racing games in general.

I've been meaning to try out Future Tactics for quite some time now. And I agree with the other two, I had tons of fun with those. I actually played Scarface for quite some time recently, but my copy is scratched and gets some game breaking errors sometimes.

"Future Tactics" is a gas, and a genuinely funny game. There's great characters, animations, and some really addictive strategic gameplay that doesn't ever feel boggish or cheap in it's difficulty. Definitely check it out.

Most likely a glitch. It happens every now and again, especially on the higher traffic boards like System Wars and Off-Topic.

I played the heck out of the demo on my Interactive Sampler that came with my PS1 back in the day. I loved the demo! But I never got a hold of a full copy. Same thing applies for Intelligent Qube, for me. I was literally addicted to the demo to that game, but I did find a full-version copy.

SelVis52

I love the game as well. But I can easily see why critics hated it:

1. The game was very dark. And I mean dark for even a Doom game. It was hard to see in many places that it really shouldn't have been. I know the original Doom had dark places on purpose, for effect, but even the well-lit areas were shady looking.

2. It was outdated. We're talking the N64 here, with FPS like Turok, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark. Doom was seen as last-gen by then.

Neither of those things take away from the fun factor, though. It's still a Doom game, and it's still a blast to play. And most people don't even realize that this is an entirely new Doom game, most people think it's just Doom on the N64. Heck, I just watched CGR review where the reviewer said home console versions of Doom didn't have proper controls until it was released on the N64, and they're supposed to be professionals.
