My ex-girlfriend (yes, I still mess around with her) seems to always beat me in Mario Kart Wii. No matter how many times I play, she still beats me. My reaction is sometimes ok, but I been lately getting the "WTF!?" reaction in my head lately.

I was wondering what your reaction is to losing to someone in a vidoe game over and over no matter how much you practice?

Depends on the game, really. In a case like Mario Kart Wii where chance can be the contributing factor to victory, I don't let it bother me very much. In other games it depends how much I enjoy it despite losing. If I like it, I'll keep practicing so I can be competitive. If it doesn't hold my interest I just think "Well..I suck" and stop playing it there.

i wouldnt know, because i never lose at anything. but if i did lose at something (repeatedly) by pure skill alone, then id probably just have to deal with that person being better (as a person, not just at the game). but if it were seemingly by pure chance that the person is somehow beating me, id probably have to kick myself in the nuts because complaining about random luck is loser talk.

Pretty apathetic. I play games for fun, not for competition... which probably has something to do with me liking mostly singleplayer games. I actually prefer to lose, because it gives me somewhere to improve the next time I play.

Well, I get angry at first, then I eventually learn my opponent's weak points and defeat him with great satisfaction. By the way, winning at MKWii is like the flip of a coin, really. Don't get discouraged.

It's been years since I've actually "practiced" to be able to beat someone in a game.

I don't get to play multiplayer nearly as much as I'd like. :( But when I do, I don't mind if I lose. I'm playing for fun, not to win.

You lucky dog you. Is it really the game that's making you frustrated or has she lately opted out of those late-night "game sessions"? ;)

Against others? I'm pretty apathetic, really. The more fun, the better.

When i try to win in some way and i keep failing, well i get very frustrated.
I'm a bad loser. Not that i get angry at someone or become aggressive, but i become really sad and angry at myself. No ammount of understanding (that it isn't serious, that i rather feel happy than disappointed, etc) has ever prevented it from surfacing somewhat.
I'm also a bad winner. My face glows with victory and pride when i win something i went for.
I can't stop those feelings from showing, so it figures i am a very bad liar too.

If I lose because someone is genuinely better then I dont mind at all. Im rarely competitive that way.

When I lose for inexplicable reasons I get frustrated as hell. This hasnt really happened since the days of Counter strike. Pre beta 7.1 I ran around outsmarting and outshooting everyone no problems. Post beta 7.1 I cant kill a standing opponent and every jumping spammer with an SMG gets a headshot on me. It made no sense and it drove me nuts and it happened overnight.

My reaction: Lots of swearing and disbelieving "WTF?'s!!!!!!111111eleventies" .. and 3 years of still trying to be as good as I used to be. After 3 years I gave up ... but the wounds are still fresh :P I dont touch that game with a barge pole anymore.

I'll just accept that the other player is clearly and demonstrably more talented than me and shift my goals accordingly.

If I'm playing by myself and I can't beat a uber cheap boss (afro samurai, ninja gaiden) i will curse and my controller's life is in jeopardy. If online, I highly comes to expect it. I rarely win.

I don't play multiplayer much (splitscreen or otherwise), so I don't lose.
