Hey guys I just bought silent hill 2 and I wanted to see what you guys who have played it think about the game. I know it’s gotten amazing reviews but so far I’m not seeing why. I will admit I’m only a few hours into it but so far the gameplay feels really really clunky and sort of cheap especially the combat. There is also a lot of walking around with absolutey nothing to interact with around you. I’ve seen videos where people say it’s better than dead space remake and any of the resident evil remakes and so far what I’ve seen, it’s not even close to being as polished, scary and most of all, as fun as those games were. I’m withholding my final judgments but so far I am heavily disappointed. Hopefully it gets better as I get further into the game. What do you guys think of this game?? Was it as good as all the reviews are saying?

Haven't played it, but it looks ok. Might get it when it's cheap. Would've prefered a more true to original remake rather than a 3rd person shooter one, but that's me.

Dead Space Remake might be good, but it was unnecessary. OG still looks and plays well.
I've played RE2R and RE4R, both of which were good.

Think it's a solid remake, if just an over padded-out remake. Certainly way better than Bloober's previous offerings, and is very faithful to the spirit of Silent Hill 2. However to state it's better than the other AAA Remakes is eye brow raising, while SH2R should be celebrated for turning out great, it is not without its flaws, you can tell the budget isn't quite as high as the Resident Evil or Dead Space remakes, and as noted the added padding to SH2R isn't for the better.

A few things also got toned down as well for SH2R. But these are few and not really that noticeable unless you're very familiar with the original Silent Hill 2.

My brother has been playing it and I seen gameplay videos on YouTube. I am sorta on the fence as I loved Silent Hill 2 though would just wait for SH2 Remake to go on sale.

It's fun and looks great, but it's slow paced and kind of a simple game. I think Resident Evil 4 Remake is better.

It's the only full priced modern game I've purchased on steam this year. I loved The Medium, and I loved the original game, so I've been following this one for a long time. It's terrific, and I'm impressed they made the combat actually good. Terrific voice actors too. It does have some padding going on, but it's nowhere near as offensive as something like FF7 Remake. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I wouldn't force the game upon you, so far from what i can tell it isn't your type of game......don't go with the crowd. Sure it's a popular game within the horror genre, but it obviously can't be everyone cup of tea. Curious tho...... what games are you really into? You seem young.

SH2 is less ‘fun’ and more ‘existential crisis.’ If clunky combat’s not your thing, the story might still haunt you.

Combat in the remake is pretty dam good, wouldn't call it clunky or lacking fun. I had a good time with the remake and the puzzles have always been light entertainment. If the remake faults at anything, it went for being longer than the original just to pad out the game. & removing some dark imagery also.

Tense psychological themes are not for everyone, yet if you've ever played a Survival Horror game before? you'll be fine.

Let me update everyone. I just beat the game and after I played it for awhile I really enjoyed it.

At first I didn’t like the open world part but when things got more linear I feel that the game got so much better. The acting and story was sort of goofy but it had its own 90/s charm to it.

The main thing I think that would have made it better is if there was more weapons, sort of like how the new resident evil games do it but I’m sure they did what they did to stay faithful to the original.

Overall if I had to give the game a score I would give it a 8/10. It def was a good game. Thanks for all the replies.

I am playing it right now and it's my first ever Silent Hill game. The maps inside the building are too f-ing long and a bit of a drag. Only 60% through the main story so far. I like it, the environments are errie and scary

It's a good representation of what makes Silent Hill 2 great, I still prefer the original when compared.

Have high hopes for Silent Hill f, would be nice if this positive reassurance for Silent Hill continues.

A lot of that is sadly the remake. OG didn't suffer from this issue. Bloober tried to stretch out the game to be longer and it's not considered a positive from the fandom.

It's a piss take. Currently at the prison area and taking my time with it.

When I first cleared the apartment, I was relieved... until I had to repeat it again in the overworld! Same goes for the Hospital, had to clear it twice! 3 f-ing floors (cries).

I like this game so far, but I cannot play this in one setting. I have to play this 30mins-1 hour a day. It's exhausting. But hey, gotta get my £55 money worth for a 15+ hour game.

Did not read any other responses because I am still playing through and am wanting to not be spoiled.

Honestly....I think it's phenomenal. They keep what works in the original and lets it loose to do it's job. The atmosphere is wonderful and gets under my skin in the best way possible. I'm constantly thinking to myself "yes, that right there is exactly what Silent Hill is supposed to be".

That said, there have been some "blips" of disappointment here and there. Nothing that affects my thoughts of it too harshly in the long run. But....

There are some moments where the game loses all subtlety and might as well tell you what's going on. There's a poster in a coffee shop near the beginning saying "Spill the beans..." and one in a record store saying "Face the music...". Maybe you would miss them, but if you're being thorough, probably not. The game is just screaming at the player "JAMES IS GUILTY!!!"

But yes, I am loving this experience with the Original being one of my favorite games ever.

@spencerelliot: that's the case for fans of the original game, however if your first time playing Silent Hill 2 is the remake then this isn't the case

I've not even bought it, just by a coincidence I played the original about a month before the remake was released, so thought it would be boring to play the same game again so soon
