What is you biggest "Are you kidding me?" moments in your videogame playing careers.

Personally mine would probably be playing One by metalica in GH 3 and it being really nice and easy and slow, then out of no where the most insane guitar solo ever (besides ttfaf of course) comes out of no where and instantly i lose. of course i pressed on to finally beat it, but that was shocking. now this topic isnt about me, its about you, so share your storys people!

One that really popped into my mind was fighting the final boss of Final Fantasy V Advance. Doing perfectly find and he only had 1 targetable area left. He got 7 turns in a row. 7. First one petrified 2 people, zombied another and blinded my white mage. Then he used his super do lots of damage move. twice. Then spammed some level 3 magics. After all this he did his status effect move and zombified my white mage making me lose. "****!! Are you ****ing kididng me!?" was my response to that. Also when I was playing COD4 for PC while on Ventrillo. I have middle mouse key as my push to talk button and sadly as nade (this was the first week or so, its different now). Turns out you can cook nades while the round starts and I TK'd 5 team mates and my self the moment the game started. It was search and destroy too. Yeah.

Mine would probably be doing the Mile High Club in Call of Duty and getting to the doors and then it blows up in my face. I have it beat now though, multiple times. :P

Moment 1. Counter-strike = Aiming at the backhead of a guy from quite a distance away with the Scout sniper rifle and just when I'm about to shoot he instantly comes infront of me and knives me to death. Moment 2. Uncharted : Drakes Fortune = That damn upriver trip with the exploding barrels and grenade launcher guys waiting for you. Moment 3. World of Warcraft = Switching from two one handed axes to two one handed swords and using a beast ten levels lower then me to train up the sword skill only to actually managing to get killed by the beast, very embaressing. Moment 4. Unreal Tournament 2004 = Being pusshed off the massive mobile fortress in a assult level by several teammates every time for two whole rounds. Moment 5. Starcraft = Being attacked by 100 Protoss Dragoons after 3 minutes into a online game.

I've had a lot I can't remember. But my most recent one had to be when I played the Left 4 Dead demo. ( I don't have the game yet.) We got into the street and I saw the warning about car alarms, and I thought what's the worse that could happen? So I shoot one of the cars (out of curiosity) and the next thing I know there are like a thousand zombies charging at me.

I have WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many of those to come up with top one. I mean back in NES era, it would've been WTF no Final Fantasy? Are you kidding me? Back in SNES era it was WTF? no Dragon Quersts? Are you kidding me? PS1 era was, WTF? Sega not releasing 90% of their good games in US? Are you kidding me? PS2 era was, WTF? Microsoft is charging money to play Halo online? Are you kidding me? Now in this gen, I'm saying Are you kidding me? A lot because of DLC that should've been included in the game in the first place! .... and ridiculous popularity of FPS games which makes me sick to my stomach, and Eidos doing dumb PR moves.

I've had quite a few of those kind of moments, it's hard to remember a specific one though. One that happened recently occured in NCAA Football 08. My SMU Mustangs were down by a point with 1 minute to go in the GMAC Bowl, (ie. our biggest game of the year). The other team, had sacked my quarterback twice in a row, so we were looking at a seemingly insurmountable 3rd & 31! I called a deep pass play and dropped back, my o-line was protecting well allowing my receivers to get down field, however, pressure was mounting and no one seemed to be able to get open! Two defenders started to get close and suddenly, way down field, a wide out managed to find some space. I let go just as I was getting hit and the ball wobbled towards the receiver currently in man coverage. A safety had begun to pick up the play and was drifting over to try and break up the pass as well. It turned into a jump ball between the three players and somehow, incredibly my guy came up with it. He turned up field with a clear path to the endzone. Touchdown. Game over. ESPN Classic game score of 1500+.

Playing GTA 3 for the first time was a mind blower, and the moment that made go WTF was picking up a prostitute and getting down and dirty in a nasty alley.

1. Near the end of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb there is a level where you're being chased by a tank while having to make all the pixel perfect jumps over a series of pits. This kind of no-mercy-allowed jumping puzzle has a way of sucking the fun out of anything.

2. The assassination mission near the end of Call of Duty 4. I'm hiding under an old ferris wheel while fending off what seems like a billion solider after killing some arms dealer. Who brings this many people to an arms deal?!?! 30 trys and I still could not get it. Fighting an endless number of enemies doesn't equal a fun time.

3. There are several missions in the old X-Wing flight simulator that you have to fail in order to find out the actual mission requirements. Apparently someone who worked at LucasArts back then decided that telling you your full mission goals during the briefing wasn't important.

4. Any game that doesn't work right out of the box.

5. Any game that still has serious stability issues even after several patches. Two examples are Silverfall and Temple of Elemental Evil for the PC.

6. Any end game boss that is 10 times harder than everything else in the game put together. Three games I had a blast with until the end are Simpsons Hit & Run, Psychonauts, and Beyond Good & Evil.

I HATE when that happens. I'm playing Psychonauts right now. You've given me something to scour forward to. For my moment though, it was most of Jak 2.

One Shot, One Kill on CoD4 Veteran at the ferris wheel. I try, like, 50 different strategies to avoid being swarmed by bad guys with guns who all want to shoot me. My friend does the same thing before me, then figures out you can hide behind a corner for about 2 minutes, run over to the Captain, and let the computers do the rest. I was like "WTF? For realz?" I thought it would be an epic kind of shoot out, not some hide-and-seek game.

Right now I'm trying to defeat Neo Shinryuu in final fantasy V advance. He's so annoying because what feels like only 20% of your attacks will actually have effect on the damn dragon >_>. If it weren't for that, I could easily own him. :x

In COD4, I set the difficulty level to one below veteran. I started the first mission. Somewhere in the container ship I choose to take some cover. When I peek out of cover, I see my teammate standing one metre from an enemy, not shooting at him, but being shot at. He kept standing there and not dying. I just thought "how is this supposed to feel realistic or like a shooter at all?".

One other moment was also with COD4. In the campaign, I was aiming for a rooftop, and shooting enemies off it. I kept doing that, and seeing the same enemy do the same movements and firing the same rockets all the time until my sniper bullets ran out.

Then in Halo 3 the last mission.

In Resident Evil 4, when that cage drops on you and your reaction is "oh, better brace myself for a challenge", then the Zealots with their  flails and cross-bows fill up the room and you think, "well, this is going to be rather difficult," and then the friggin' Garrado jumps into the cage and you're like "you gotta be ******* kidding me!".

Quite a few similar moments in that game, actually, but none stand out in my mind quite so much is as the abovementioned.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2. This one mission where u have to protect this moogle and defeat all enemy's.

2 of there units use an ability that randomly chooses targets and puts them to sleep and casts doom on them. Sure the moogle is immune to doom, to bad my white mage isn't...

1.) I am shocked no one said the end of disc 1 in Final Fantasy 7. I can't believe they had the balls to do that. In retrospect, Aeris' passing made the game stronger now that I'm 10 years out in the distance, but that didn't make me utter a WTF so much as shocked silence that my Phoenix Down didn't work for some reason.

2.) Fighting Nyx at the end of Persona 3. I fought him for literally an hour and a half because I was underleveled, using up all of my Somas and other uber healing items. Second to last turn, bam, hits me with Night Queen, silencing Mitsuru and enraging everyone else. He had a god damn sliver of life. Main Character bashed him real good. So did Junpei, Aigis his once, then missed second enraged attack. I couldn't see his life, but no one had any HP left except Junpei who survived the next round, but being slower than Nyx was, he waxed him in the next hit...

If that mother ****er had more than 25 hp, I'll be suprised. I refused to lose so I grinded 10 more levels for each character then came back and shredded him. But an hour and a half down the drain for literally maybe double digit damage. UGH!!!!! That had me yelling and swearing.

3.) Any time playing Gears of War 1 or 2 on insane.

The Gol and Sil Dragon in PSO. This is easy, what the crap he split, holy crap his double split too.

Any game where I win a fight only for the following cutscene to tell me that not only did I lose I lost badly.

People that complain about QTE in games, yet will buy Rockband and Guitar Hero when they are essentially QTE set to music.

People that bring up trivial complaints.
One I've recently seen about RE4: It makes no sense where Ashley got a flashlight from.
In a game about Viruses and Parasites that control or reanimate the dead, a guy that can carry a couple of handguns, shotguns, rifles, rocket launchers and few dozen grenades in an unseen and never heavy case, and that is your biggest complaint.

To refute your QTE statement, most QTEs involve 4 buttons and 8 directions (yes Diagonals appear in many QTEs). At most you have 5 in Guitar Hero. Secondly, even on expert, you do not lose from missing one press. I rest my case.

Not all QTE cause you to instantly lose either, as rare as those kind are.

I should have been clearer on what people I was refering to. The people I was trying to refer to are usually also the kind who end up button-mashing in a game as well, the ones who have little grasp on how to play any actual games. My sister for example wants to get GH, and I know she'll complain about having to hit the buttons in time with the screen.

Stupid message ran together.

I also had Simpsons Hit & Run for gamecube and i know exactly what u mean. I went through most of the game the first time that i replayed it while trying to get all of the cars. My favorite, even though it isnt the greatest was the sedan.

Going through tons of quests in fallout 3, making sure I am as evil as I could possibly be and then watching the 2 minute ending cut scene...

Still a great game though.

Off the top of my head, Need for Speed Underground 2 for DS. No matter how many times I played this one race, every single time I wouldn't even get close to winning in first (2nd or 3rd same as 5th or 6th). Seems the developers love to piss people off in that game. New Super Mario Bros. - the water levels Sudoku on Hard.

Grinding for 2 hours on Lost Odysee and 2 meters from a save point: "The Disc Cannot Be Read". Mario Kart DS - being first place for the entire race only to be hit with an onslaught of Blue Shells, Red Sells and the guy in second using 3 mushrooms. Realising everyone on your team is an engineer or sniper on TF2. Finding out on Dark Chronicle I have to play golf in order to complete a level. Playing Virtua Fighter 5 online.

Left 4 Dead quite often does it. Especially on VS mode when you play against a team who gets givern a Tank at the start, then on your turn as the infected they get a free clean run to the safehouse with no zomebie hordes or nothing in there way. You find you can't keep up on them because they can run through the level so fast, the director system often makes for unfair games.

Valkryia Chronicles had a mission where the enemy turn had some reinforcments come into the battle. It let computer have 20 turns (which is a lot) with a unit which is invunurable to all damage, can beat anything of yours in one shot, is 100% accurate and infinate range to it's attacks just walked around the battlefriend taking out everything I had with nothing I could do about it. It's known as the worst designed level in the game according to GameFaq's which I had to resort to in order to get past the level.

Oh was that the level in the desert with the giant tank? I had to do the same thing. I only managed to finish the level on the very last turn (turn 20).

Selvaria couldn't damage your tank, and by the time she came out, you either had to have killed 2 out of 3 of the reactors by that time, or the tank would have kept going without firing the cannon in the first place from which you would also have been dead. Hell, I got a B ranking the first time I tried that. 2 Lancers (Largo and Yoko did fine), two engineers, Alicia, Rosie and Welkin are all that's needed for that level. It was WTF worthy, but not impossible like people make it out to be.

The last couple of races (I think they're called masters...but I don't remember) in Ridge Racer 6. They're a massive spike in difficulty over anything that came before, since you basically have to race perfectly and **bleep**-block the AI opponents as well as time your last nitrous blast to carry you over the finish line right as it runs out.

Frustrating as hell. I can't believe they actually expected people to beat it, or that I actuallly finished them.

Guild Wars has a couple of those moments too. My first one came after checking my totals and noticing I had unlocked about 150 high-end chests (after about a year or two of owning the game). I checked online to see how many I'd have to complete that title track: 10,000. Are you **bleep**ing kidding me Arenanet?

I've got a couple

Return of Big Boss at the end of MGS4

Tackling a survivor through an open elevator shaft doorway and causing us to plummet to our deaths in versus mode in Left 4 Dead

Becoming the Nemesis of 7 people in one game of TF2 at the same time.....it will never happen again

Playing Max Payne 2, the game was autosaved as I was falling into a hole, so I would constantly restart already falling in the same hole.

End of Halo 2

The first time I played a korean in StarCraft.

Edit: Also in Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin the last couple missions, the first where you have to kill Wayan or something the air guy, he starts with more guys, a better position, more buildings for resources, and more places to build guys. You have nothing going for you.

In L4D I was playing the dead air finale on expert with some friends. We died 5 times before and when we left the safe house a smoker grabbed one of my friends who then got jumped by a hunter and died. We went after him and got thrown up on by a boomer and by the time we finished killing everything only 1 person was left and we had barely gotten 10 yds away from the safe house.

The second half of Halo. After letting you fight in wide open battlefields in varied enviroments like desert canyons, snowy wasteland and so on and just as your expecting that to be delivered to you in the second half, what do get? First of all the most uninspired level in the history of gaming: The library. And how do you follow up that amount of blandness? Why by making you backtrack over the levels you just did.
