Better than the Nintendo ones.
EDIT
maybe better isn't the word, more entertaining and culturally significiant is more appropriate.
Never played them, but I saw an uopened Wand of Gamelon in a store. They were selling it for 1000 bucks or best offer.

no they are not. there's another review about the zelda games on cdi that is spot on and very fair. the over the top version of zelda is quite good, although different from nintendo's games
I can't facepalm enough at the ***** here that consider ANYTHING by teh avgn an actual review.

I was going to suggest watching the AVGN "review" too but others already have. While we can't take these AVGN videos as serious "reviews" you can watch the cd-i Zelda ones to see the actual gameplay and all the really bad gameplay designs with the game. So again, while it's not to be taken as a gamespot or IGN-like review, you can still get some pretty good info about how bad the game is from the AVGN because he shows the bad design and buggy issues.
I agree that you shouldn't take AVGN seriously. It's a comedy show. He plays a character. And he plays him over-the-top angry and critical on purpose.
That said, however, the CD-i Zelda games are indeed terrible. None of the characters are "in-character". It does have animated cutscenes, which you'd think would be cool, however it is some of the worst animation I have EVER seen in my life. And this is coming from a life-long comic book fan, so I've seen a LOT of animation in my time. The voice acting is atrocious to boot, but then what could the actors do with the terrible material they were given?
As for the gameplay itself. They have TERRIBLE controls. There is often no way to tell what is part of your platform and what is part of the background, which makes for lots of cheap and frustrating deaths when all they could have done was add some different texturing for backgrounds. Even if they did, though, the gameplay is boring, monotonous, and uninspired.
If these were to be found cheap, they would be good buys as conversation pieces and collection pieces. However the price they fetch is absolutely ridiculous and not worth it at all.

he's really not, he's even admitted he usually pretends to be a worse then he really is in his reviews
Not only that but he's admitted to bashing games he actually loves like Castlevania 2

I'm well aware that James' nerd persona is not how he really feels all the time. That said, he does actually go into a good amount of detail explaining exactly why the CD-i games are so awful. Some of the stuff he points out (like the confusing level layouts and clunky control scheme) is impossible to overlook even for the most positive of reviews.Maybe you could post a link to this review instead of posting your frustrations at other people's opinions so the TC can get his question answered?I can't facepalm enough at the ***** here that consider ANYTHING by teh avgn an actual review.

I've played one of them, can't remember which one though, several years ago and could not believe I was actually playing a zelda game given the horrible gameplay and controls. For a Zelda game it is indeed horrific, and even for a video game period it is really bad. It wasn't the worst game I've played, but it was bad enough that I would never in a million years consider playing it again.
yes they are REALY THAT BAD. just take our word for it. DO NOT attempt to play it, you'd be better off buying actual toilet paper.
Though, as I and many others have said, the AVGN review is about as thorough as you're going to find, our friends here at Gamespot did get into the Zelda (and Mario) games for the CD-i in their video that can be found here:

I think the games of the CD-i are or could have been good. I mean Nintendo was suck a big sourpuss. Nintendo did help make these games and most people forget that Nintendo aproved the looks of the characters and the cut sceens. Nintendo was acting like a spoiled child that was forced to share its toys. Nintendo wanted these games to fail. Nintendo gave the CD-i games verry little money and time to make the games, thus they look "bad". Then you forget that it is ONLY your generation that hates the CD-i. Before 2000 the CD-i Zelda games were decent and won a few awards and many positive reviews. It is just that many of the new generation did not grow up with consoles like the SNES. If the WOG was on the SNES every one would not be complaining, but because it is on the CD-i a nonNintendo console they yell and complain. Even Mario goes missing sucks worse then Zeldas Adventure. Even AVGN said that Hotel Mario was not that bad, and yet many people like that game. It is just this generaton that has never tried any of the games and they complain. The only issues I have is that I had to get an contoler converter so I could play ZWOG. I mean come on the voice acters hardly got paid at all! To you know how much they worked with no over time or benifits. The CD-i was not even made to play video games in the first place.Linuxgamer94
Dude, I'm 30 years old. nobody EVER liked the CD-i. And no, Nintendo had absolutely NO involvement in the development of these games.

Well since you've already bumped the thread I'll just throw in before the mods block the thread that it has nothing to do with peoples preference of console. It's because frankly they suck really quite hard. How some of them managed positive reviews upon release is beyond me, because there's not much there that I could find that was positive.
