I'm really tired of all these pis-ant teenagers ruining topics and spreading their "I know it all" attitude towards games AND gamers.I'm not saying that all under 18eeners are immature, but it would be nice to have some sort of board for the "mature" gamer.

Finally, this has been brought up.  Maybe there should be three forums, Under 18s, Over 18s and both.  I think it is a great idea as it allows more mature gamers the chance to share ideas and information with eachother without being intruded by children, but still have the ability to get information and ideas from the under 18s on the forums.

It would be impossible to assure that everyone posting on the board was over 18. This isn't a night club, its not like we can check peoples id's at the door.

I have to say this is a great idea. Obviously one can't guarantee that someone is over 18 but it becomes quite obvious if someone isn't mature enough to be apart of an over 18 forum. I generally don't post much in the forums mainly because the discussions tend to be a bit childish for my taste. I'm not saying that everyone under 18 is immature but an age limit would help. BTW I'm 23 if anyone asks.

lol, ever since GameSpot merged with Gamefaq the maturity/IQ level dropped about 50%. Not saying it wasn't bad before .. just saying after that happened being an immature (put profanity of your choice here) was deemed cool.

That said ... I can't imaging a forum of "mature individuals conversing" on Gamespot lasting very long. Unless they were to get some mature and reasonable moderators.... well,  they need to do that anyway :p

I know the reason why things are way they are and will never change around here .. but, I shall remain silent so I don't break the TOS ... 'cause spouting off negative truths is a violation of the rules (seriously), lol ;)

I'm sure that would lead to a lot of ToS violations. (Cursing, inappropriate pictures, etc.)

I agree with you.  I feel that the adults and only adult over 21 years old should have their own section.  Please see my idea over on Site Enhancements & Feedback.

While I do agree that a lot of people under the age of 18 are immature, I don't think it is fair to exclude all those who want a serious and mature discussion based on some peoples actions. Besides people can be immature and jerks at all ages. It would be very easy to fake ones age anyway, even if you required some sort of credit card.

I say, You have a test that you take to see if your mature enough to get into the 18+ Because some people who are under 18, Hate the fact of having to hang out with those people too, I like this idea and will be happy to see it come!

Majority of the people who are 18+ would fail that test.

I think part of the point would be a relaxation of the ToS in an 18+ forum, perhaps not with regard to pictures but at least in regard to language and suitable topics of conversation. The issue is probably more with regard to polarising the community too much, I already have the additional UK board and Subscriber board to check, so with an 18+ forum as well it may eventually reach too many boards to actively read and contribute in.

As an under-18 myself, I feel that it would be a little unfair on those who do want to have a mature discussion yet are under-age. I can understand your point though, but feel for the rest of us who would have to stay and listen to the fanboys and their neverending chants of "xBOX rools u PS3!!lol!1" and the like, without the option to escape to another board. On top of this, I would imagine that there are plenty of annoying over-18s that would abuse relaxtions in the ToS in an Over-18 board..

You wouldn't be able to do a test anyway. Everybody is different and the answers would show you that.
All you could do is trust that they are not lie-ing about their age, and trusting people these days..............
I'm 18 and I have no idea what you would think of me. I apologise because a can be random sometimes.

GS probably wouldnt enforce something like this. Your best bet would be to seek out board's like "Goose's garage" and "The Virtual Underground" where the average poster is over 18, and a high level of discussion is expected and enforced.

Thinking they know it all is what being a teenager is all about. They only know text books. They don't have any wisdom nor real world experience. And most of their knowledge is based on vague observasions.

They don't have as much experience making assumptions and mistakes. So how can they know their wrong when they don't know what wrong is? It's not obvious to them yet. Someone who doesn't realize they are wrong will believe they are right.

It's just a forum. No one is stopping you from ignoring and disregarding the posts and comments that you do not like nor agree with.

Great Idea, but difficult to accomplish.

Gamespot would have to figure out how to control who can enter the forum.

One way that may work is using a credit card or debit card.  Gamespot does not need to charge anything, but it's a way to verify your age.

Socom did this for online accounts in order to track the players and punish those who break the rules.  The credit card info. was only used for verification.

What do you think?

I'm an officer in one. You can apply there or send me a PM so I can ask the leader if I can send you an invitation.

That would be very hard due to lying about ages. Anyone can put any number and say that they're 18.

I think it's a good idea, though the implementation would be somewhat tricky, I agree but I'm sure someone at GS has the knowledge and power to make such an idea come to fruition. Let's hope so anyway.

True.....there would be no way to make sure that the under-agers didn't venture into the over 18 forum. It would be nice to have a forum that was tweeny free though.

I would personally like it if we could swear (not hatespeach, but just natural, normal adult language) on an adults-only board. I hate having to limit how I naturally speak here. In fact the censorship on this site bothers me so much I may jump ship and head over to 1up.

I swear in everyday life, everybody will at some point, but i don't feel the need to swear on here. To be honest, there is never any need to swear but in the 'real world' it just happens but on this site, i can think about what i am going to say and swearing isn't needed in a good discussion, it is irrelavent to conversation.
