Could not agree with you more, people come and people go... it's a business. At least now there will be more cake for us, even though I hear it is a lie...............
So how to react? Luckily for the enraged, Gamespot has built up over the last few years an impressive participatory environment, allowing the average GS Joe to be heard, but more, to be involved. And the general reaction by members so far seems to use this involvement to its fullest: declaring that they, as members, will no longer BE involved with this site. Yikes! To quote M. Knight: "What a twist!"
I can certainly understand this action. But, knee-jerk reactions aside, a little consideration has made me realize that I don't feel it's the right action for me. This situation has spurred me to try to become more involved.
I've been with this site for a long time. I think what Gamespot does is pretty special. But specifically, I come here because I've always felt that the games will be given a fair shake. I may not agree with every individual review, but the overall reviewing mosaic of Gamespot is one that generally downspins hype and upspins merit, and that's a strength that I want to see preserved.
Cancelling an account won't see it preserved. If anything, it seems to me that it would lead to more kowtowing to advertisers in an effort to retain profitability, but whatever. Obviously that sort of thing doesn't matter to someone who's leaving the site, and I certainly understand the urge to send a message with your pocketbook. I sent one with mine tonight... I re-upped for the Total Access.
I guess I just have to laugh at the whole thing. People are here saying stuff as if they know exactly what happened. I would bet that less then 1% of the people here really have any clue as to what actually went down, I know I don't. As far as being locked out of his office, wow, join the world of the corporate office. I was employeed at the same place for almost 10 years and had a security escort out of the building when I left, it happens.
And I did do a google search for "gamespot" and guess what??? The first two pages were noting mroe then info and actual pages from GS. People need to stop acting like this is the end of the world.
rbreckel, your right. People are going way too overboard about this. Yes, we know Jeff was fired, we don't know that it was because the Kane and Lynch review, we don't know that it was because Eidos called Cnet, we don't know much. People THINK they know, but they have no idea.
A lot of people are cancelling their subscriptions and I think they are dumb. Nothing is going too change besides Jeff not being here. The reviews won't change, the content won't change, nothing will change besides Jeff being gone. None of this will change because it probably had nothing to do with his firing. I will still pay for my account because I still support Gamespot and all the staff currently here.

Agreed. I thought all the "I'm cancelling", "GS sold out", and "Viva la Jeff" threads were ridiculous and mostly immature. Don't get me wrong; it sucks that he got fired. Except for people I personally know and hate, it sucks when anyone gets fired. I do realize however, that stuff happens, and one guy leaving won't make me cancel and leave too. Also thought it was funny that some of the same people who hated the guy for giving the infamous 8.8 were backing him up. Gamers can be very..."strange", sometimes.
