Another one leaving?:o This seems to be happening a lot here on Gamespot over the past year.
Good luck Rich on whatever new job you will be doing.
Just got done watching on the spot and found this out :(. Makes me sad Rich was one of my favorite people. Well that being said GL Rich family is always the most important thing.
Gamespot has to be like everyone else now and have a show "The Next gamespotting star". LOL
I just hope whoever gets to take Rich's place has as much energy and enthusiam he does.
Seriously... Greg and now Rich... Jeff might as well leave now so there is nobody that gives Gamespot the personality it had anymore. Rich really was the "everyman" host that I think people could really relate to. I hope he stays on the radar and works on or starts another show.JonDownin
I couldn't have said it better myself, this is terrible news. They always announce these things at the end of OTS and it's almost become a part of the show where I'm wondering if there will be some sad news. I've got a feeling he'll be staying on the radar a bit though, just from the way they said it. But Rich is an excellent presenter and seems like a nice guy, it almost wouldn't surprise me if he was going to work in TV. I agree about the departures over the last year or so, Greg, Bob, Carrie and now Rich. I guess they get to a certain stage and think they need to be doing something a little more serious and grown up, but stay in the industry. Personally if I worked somewhere that seemed as much fun as Gamespot I don't think I'd leave in a hurry, maybe they don't pay enough to keep their star personalities.
I think there are some other good personalities, Jeff of course, Ryan, Alex, Brad, whatshisname with the beard, and Aaron. But please Gamespot, don't promote somebody to Rich's job who knows their stuff, but shall we say, makes their point in a less engaging manner than he does. The Hotspots and OTSs that he has not presented have not been as good in my view. Those are some big shoes to fill.
Take care, Rich. You've done a great job hosting at Gamespot throughout your stay...it was nice to watch someone who obviously knew about and played games but still had some charisma and didn't overwhelm the senses with geekiness. Best of luck to you in wherever life leads.
Rich will be missed. I hope Gamespot handle choosing his replacement carefully. It may be best to retire the "On the Spot" format and have one of the other staff come up with their own idea for a weekly show, just as they retired Let's Gamespot when Rich took over from Jeff as the regular show host. Rich is so tied to On the Spot that it will seem very strange without him.
However, ss long as whomever replaces Rich is a hardcore gamer with an enthusiastic approach, I'll be happy.
Great host who will be missed. They need to find someone new as I don't think any of the team are up to the job to be honest. Rich always seemed so natural in the way he presented and I think any of the team taking over would try too hard to fill his shoes, when it should be a fresh face who brings their own style.
Hope we still see him on Gamespot. I'm in the U.K and staying up late just to tune in to On the Spot is something I don't want to give up. And who could ever replace that "we're live and onnnnnn the spooooottttttt" - bugger. Fancy Rich letting his real life ruin things for us fans ;)
Bob, Greg, Carrie, Rich. It is sad to see these folks go but good to know they're moving on to bigger and better things.
On the Gamespot front I have serious concerns about the loss of talented people. Of course nobody is going to replace these folks. At the same time I haven't seen anyone step into their roles and provide much of their own content, personality, or much of anything. Oh there are reviews but I'm looking for more than that. In the past these people seemed to have their own projects on the site, interesting editorials and etc. I don't see much of that on Gamespot as I used to.
I think as GS users we must dread E3 from now on... Carrie left right after last year's E3 to go work for whatever company that had that crazy on-stage demo for Warhammer, I think. And now Rich! Obviously he will end up with Bioware working in some capacity on Mass Effect after how the demo was conducted. "Mass Effect! Mass Effect! Mass Effect!" if I remember correctly, or did I just make that up?
Anyways, who will replace Rich on Time Trotters? That's what I want to know.

I think it was Bob that left shortly after E3 last year. Carrie if I remember correctly didn't leave till sometime in August.
agreed. Brad Shoemaker doesn't seem to contribute much to the site anymore, in the way of reviews or...anything. He has been there several years also. I'd like to see more of the 2 Ryans also. they used to write entertaining reviews and I liked them on camera. Now it seems we only see them at the big events. And what the heck ever happened to one of my favorite editors, Andrew Park?? I haven't heard a peep from him in months! Is he still employed at Gamespot?Bob, Greg, Carrie, Rich. It is sad to see these folks go but good to know they're moving on to bigger and better things.

Man, I only watched parts of last weeks "On the Spot" (too much Madden for me as a European  )- so I just found out Rich is leaving from the latest Hotspot while walking my dog a few hours ago. I was totally bummed and had to fast forward to the end of the show to confirm you guys weren't joking because of the Vinny curse- and you weren't. :(
Gamespot has been losing three of my favorite staffers with Carrie, Greg and now Rich. With each loss the site has suffered quite a bit. Aaron andKevin are really cool, but GS really needs to bring in even more new talent and/or use some of your "hidden" existing staff more.
And most of all - introduce those new people better on all fronts! They and Gamespot as a whole would benefit from that - you have the means for that, so use them! Nothing is worse than to learn there's a new staffer from a review or in some random video without knowing who they are.
I personally really like Vinny and Brendan a lot and would would hope that maybe they can become more "visible" to readers/viewers/listeners. Brian Ekberg is awesome as well despite the fact that he's usually talking about boring US sports or racing games. Ricardo is great as well. So you have all kinds of great people already - use them more visibly to the average user. Especially on the podcast and video front this shouldn't become too Jeff-centric. Not that I have anything against him, not at all, but I'm afraid it might get a little boring if you just have one face from now on.
To Rich: Best of luck to you for your future!!! For what it's worth, you are ranked pretty high on my short "That guy seems to be alright" and "All around pleasant guy/gal" list of public people!
damn ... really sucks that rich is leaving but i'm down to keep watching so long as jeff sticks around. The only thing I worry about is the way Rich and Jeff complimented each other with funniness. I guess Ryan is funny with Jeff too, but I don't know ... it was a weird/good/funky mesh with Rich and Jeff.
Oh well ... I hope Rich reads this and see's that people really don't want him gone and maybe will stick his nose in here and there. He does seem like a really cool dude in real life. Thanks for the fun times Rich. You da man and good luck with everything you do.
And don't feel weird about crying dude ... I'd have done the sameif I had that much historywrapped up in one place.:p
A warning sign, You came back to haunt me and I realized, That you were an island and I passed you by,You were an island to discover. Come on in, Ive gotta tell you what state I'm in, I've gotta tell you in my loudest tones, That I started looking for a warning sign.......... When the truth is, I miss you...... Yeah the truth is, That I miss you so.... and im tired, I should not have let you go... I LOVE YOU RICH I LOVE YOU
