Subscriber Enhancement Idea Thread of 2006!

UPDATE: Here's an update on the discussions from this thread that has had tons of your feedback since December 2005. I am making a new thread for you to continue your idea submissions, which have been some great ones I re-reviewed today. We have compiled all of the data in this former thread, and are still investigating the ideas you have already mentioned.

Since December, most of the items in that thread mentioned the ICE skin, UCB Banners, and colored names. And by popular demand, as you already know, UCB Banners and colored names are back. As for the ICE skin, this will be back soon enough, as stated in this announcement.

That said, if its not already in the previous forum thread, feel free to start posting any new ideas you have for 2006.

When responding to this thread please make sure you mention if it should be accessible to Total Access (premium subscription), GameSpot Plus subscribers or for all registered members (free users). This will decrease any confusion on our end. Thanks!

Instead of assuming what we feel you might like to see, how about you give us your ideas in this designated thread! We will assemble the best of your ideas, or even take the most popular (if feasible), and put them into a roadmap for a possible future implementation related to GameSpot. I think it would be cool to have user-editable game guides, where paying members can edit the guides kind of like a wiki.

That's not a half bad idea. Great in fact.

I have been thinking for a while about this idea i had , for example the last couple of weeks were very intense as far as game releases go, so the one thing I did is check on the site everyday like I always do for the reviews. But they weren't there, not that there isn't anyone reviewing it but there is nothing pointing to that fact , except my gut i guess.

I just thought it would be nice to have alongside the "Read previews" Something that said "Being reviewed" or An icon that when you would put your mouse over would say "An editor is reviewing this game check back soon!" Well just an idea..tell me what you guys think..

Oh yeah bring button mashing back..

I like the colored names, but Total Access subscribers should be able to take it further. How about the ability for TA members to tweak each individual letter of their name with hexadecimal codes?
I'd like to be able to make some nice color transitions. :)

Well, they are already able to make one no matter what level they are at, but I wouldn't mind that.....

add chat rooms for each game on the webpage, like gamecenter.CalvinCoolage

I was thinking the same thing.  Add chat rooms accessible instead of just message boards.  You wouldn't necessarily need to do it for every game, but you could divide it by game system, then by game genre.  That way you could still have the necessary hundred or so rooms to meet the demand, without having to have thousands and overloading your servers.

I know this is my second post, but I would also like to see downloadable soundtracks for games instead of just trailers and gameplay movies.  Some of these games have awesome soundtracks that aren't given justice over poor streaming speeds.  Also some people may not want to download huge files just to get a soundtrack.

It would also be cool if you added java games to the site where you can compete against other players and get awarded promotion points or something.  Card games, arcade games, anything.  You could even have your own Texas Hold 'em Tournament and award promotion points or new emblems or something.

Could you give us just a plain list of our entire uploaded videos? I can only see five of my movies at a time, and from my profile, I don't have access to all of them! Just a plain list as the default selected sub-tab would do. I even tried to add all of my movies to my favorites, but it only shows me five of them! This is a very big problem.255Loner

Excellent point.  I agree totally 100%.  I sure the majority would be with us on this one.

I know I just upgraded (and still I'm only a Plus member), but here are a few of my ideas. (Some of the ones I liked that others mentioned are here also)

-Customizable user page
-Unique avatars/titles
-Weekly exclusive video (maybe only TA)
-Editable game guides
-Unique/different set of badges

Also a discount or some sort of real world video game related bonus would be awesome. Maybe discounts on magazines or something?

I love it!  I'm a big fan of soundtracks and I usually rip the files out of my games whenever I can and listen to them regularly.

I second this as well.  It seems like another one of those simple and stupid things that just makes us feel special and different (like the colored usernames - which only work inside a thread and not the thread list).

Hey, and how about a free t-shirt :D?  Then I can wear it around town and advertise for gamespot.
