Why did all of you peoples upgrade to Gamespot Total Access?

For me, I wanted the HD Videos and better event coverage. Namely E3. Because my main source for big gaming event coverage was G4TV, but now that they are leaning away from games, I thought I could use Gamespot.

I wanted to be able to watch live coverage for E3, higher video quality and to take part in tournaments (I can't right now because I live in Quebec which is apparently excluded in the contest rules, but I found a way to get around that;))

I upgraded because of a mixture of reasons. For one thing, it doesn't cost too much to upgrade and there are quite a few awesome features. The better quality videos probaly being the best thing for me and is one of the main reasons i upgraded and it will probaly be why i will renew my account. Like i said though, for the cheap price of upgrading, it is well worth it. :)

I upgraded to get rid of those intrusive ads, aswell as access to HD quality videos, OTS prize contests and the ability to form my own UCB (User Created Board) which has been out of commission for some time now... but maybe I'll create one again.

There was a time when (if I remember the details right, I might be mistaken) I stopped coming to Gamespot because when they first rolled out the pay system their reviews were somehow time sensitive. Non payers could see recent reviews but after a certain time you had to pay to see old reviews and etc. I was way annoyed and didn’t visit until someone told me they changed that.

Then video reviews started to poke around and in general I thought Gamespot had a whole lot more than just reviews and screenshots to offer. I was tired of all the sites that seem to feed fanboys hyping things right and left and giving every game high scores to where you couldn't tell a good game from a great one.  I felt Gamespot was different and I was here enough to where I felt it was worth supporting the site (this was before the ads went crazy). Then I became a moderator and I get it for free now so it’s not really something I think about.

I did it because i was on the site for 2 years and i really got into the news, info, videos, demos and live feeds. turned out to be a good buy since it ran xbl game videos out of buisness. i stream all my videos now.

That's why I did it originally, too. And to quickly download some E3 Half-life 2 videos I was impatient to get. Now I keep it because, in all honesty, there's so many irritating people on the internet, that I'd rather limit my interactions to people who--even if they do not share my opinions--are at least able and willing to put some money where their mouth is. People tend not to act quite as idiotic when they're paying for something.

I really really really needed a decent, reliable, and fast download server for some patches for work. EA sites are rediculously slow. Luckily, I had $40, it was about 2AM so it was pretty much a "Whatever" decision. Yay for a year subscription to "Wired". I think that's about the only decent magazine offered. :(

To get rid of the ads, that was my main reason. After that, all the benefits it provides (at that time my favorite benefit was the discount at EBgames...)

The removal of ads, higher resolution downloads, but I think just to support a site I visited pretty much every day as it was. The amount to upgrade was almost negligable compared to the time I spend here...too much time. :) Needless to say I've been getting my money's worth.

After 3 years I actually just signed up for it today. I wanted the 700k streams for Tournament TV and On the Spot. I also know they do some special events that are paid only, like Gregs 12 hour oblivion marathon and some events (Tokyo Gameshow comes to mind). No ads, high speeds and HD movies are a nice touch.

E3 2006 live coverage. It was only $20 back then.

$40 now? I'm undecided as to whether or not I should renew, because E3 is no longer going to be what it was, starting with 2007.

Me, I upgraded because I really like the GameSpot website and I wanted to support it. I don't click ads (because 99% of them I'm not interested in) so the next best thing was to pay the subscription. All that other stuff is just a bonus really because at the time when I first subscribed, I still had my FilePlanet subscription going so I didn't need the download perks. :)

I upgraded to get the E3 goods last year, and just never unsubscribed. It's nice to have video's in high res. Although if GS isn't going to be offering anything along the lines of the E3 thing like last year, I dunno if I'll continue my subscription much longer. It seems like there aren't as many benifits as there used to be.

Can't really blame Gamespot for E3 downgrading. I don't doubt they'll get as good a coverage of the event as they can though.

I upgraded becourse i use Gamespot alot and was getting fed up with all the add's, wanted better download speed (and i got it too i went from ca 30kb/s to ca 650kb/s i guess it dont go any faster), to get better videos and to just avoid click on something and then being informed that this was just for plus or ta members. but the main reason was the add's asim a personal hater of comersals lol

I'm currently a Plus subscriber for the high-res videos, and alternate themes mainly. And the ability to change the name color.

For those with Total Access, does that get rid of the full page ads off to the side on the main page, too?
