You're half right.Japanese also use Chinese characters butthey areprounounced differently. Also that's just one portion of their writing systems.

Well, I was standing beside and asking my friend about this all, as I said, and she's fluent in Chinese dialects and Japaneseso I was just going by what she said /shrug.
