Sort of. I just moved into my dorm as a freshman at UWEC (UW Eau Claire). I have to say im a bit nervous about class but todays activities were quite enjoyable. My roommate and I are friends from high school, so that was nice. The only people from my town here right now, which is good.

The most important part. The male to female ratio is 2:3, in favor of female. I have to admit, the female population is extremely good on the eyes. This is a good thing.

Anyways all of my posting will be coming from this small dorm room.

I'm moving to New York ALL by myself on October 29. Just to go to this one school *not college* but New York is a freaking nightmare. I'm from South Texas! In South Texas, nothing compares anywhere close to NYC! It's a freaking nightmare for me man.

Not wanting to say much negative, but you gotta be sure to get a good alarm clock and get a daily routine. That was the hardest thing for me while starting dorm life. At least I will be prepared for real college, lol.

Congrats, I wish you good times to come. As for me, I will probably never live in a dorm. I'll just get an apartment close by my college.

I don't blame your. I have gotten sick of dorm life after 2 years, too many rules even with college freedom.

You guys, (no offense) have a weird system of tertiary education....
Over here in the land of oz - you pay your fees you do whatever the hell you want. And you stay at college to go to university. College = accomodation; University = education. Sorry, I just felt the need to show the differences.

So what kind of rules do you guys have for dorm accomodation?

Well, I have pre-college. So right now it is you can't have a TV in your room and have to be in a certain time. I am just saying that most colleges let you do anything you want. But they have normal rules like adults do: You can not disturb the peace, You can not vandelize objects that belong to the school. So more or less, college=real life with limits. Only thing about it is that college is a little bit easier with punishment. If you destory something belonging to the school, they warn you. In real life, you would have to pay 500 bucks to replace it.
Also, the thing that sucks about dorm life is that the CL can get you kicked out for anything. I know someone that got kicked out for drinking during a school day.

Weird is such a relative term. There's nothing "weird" in absolute terms. It's only something you're not accustomed to or you've never or seldom seen before in the society you've lived in. I can also call your tertiary system weird.

Congratulations on moving out. Universities in Ireland don't usually have dorms, we usually have a housing estate beside them, with cheap houses for rent.

I'll pay that its due. You make a very valid point. What I should have said was, from my perspective (resulting from an all Australian upbringing) your system of tertiary education seems very different to the one here in Australia. The usage of weird was due to laziness, since most people dont bother with my posts. You can indeed call my system of tertiary education weird, and sometimes I do-so myself. The focus of Universities and such these days is on moneymaking rather then on learning, in general. University used to be free here in Australia (subsidised by the Government for Australian citizens), but then a Liberal government scrapped that and now universities are more interested with economic viability then in hardcore university learning stuff. Obviously there are exceptions to that rule, I'm just stating this as a broad generalisation.
