Let's not get too carried away. -150? -200?
...I'd say around -100 or so. I'm wondering how much Sony is willing to lose to sell their console.

I still doubt a $500 price point for the 60GB model would help sales. Firstly, it is still $100 more than the Premium 360, and in the eyes of the everyday consumer that difference is still quite substantial for basically the same hardware. On top of that it would still be a gigantic $250 more than the Wii, which is suicide as far as new console adopters and "casuals", if you will, are concerned.
Secondly, at $500 the 20GB model still failed to penetrate the market (although that was admittedly because of a lower availability ratio than anything else). I can see it maybe boosting 60GB PS3 sales slightly, but ultimately it would just be a pointless extension of another failed entry point.
Finally, Sony really have to reduce the price by at least $150-200 to be effective, as well as get better games out as soon as possible. They also need to start winning back their Japanese home base -- as far as monthly sales go, PS3 is doing abysmally for its first year on sale. That's frankly shocking for a Japanese console manufacturer with such a devoted fanbase. North America boasts equally distressing sales, as the console was reportedly outsold by the GBA a couple of months ago. The only area Sony are doing remotely well in is Europe, which is the only snippet of good news.
All in all, Sony just need to drop the PS3 by such a drastic amount in order to gain a proper foothold in the next-gen market. Drastic situations, after all, call for drastic measures.
