Man if you think the $600 price tag is expensive now, get this: the lowest phone plan is $60 per month, and you have to take a minimum 2-year contract.I don't plan on getting one. the service charge is 60 a month for only 450 min. that probably doesn't even include much data(web) and text messaging.OntainI know, the pricing is simply ridiculous. You'd think they'd either make the device cheaper or the plans cheaper. :?
Way too expensive for me. $600 is outrageous for a phone. Sure, the iPhone is sexy and you can do a lot with it, but at the end of the day, I still think I'd have the buyer's remorse after breaking the bank for it.
As Foxhound said, I would rather get oneof the japanese phones. They make our phones look like a pile of crap in comparison.
Wow... why stand in line for a cell-phone?
Also, it's only with Cingular. Verizon>>>>>>>>>Cingular/AT&T (whichever name they decide to be... :| )
I get crappy service with Cingular over here, but I love my Verizon service. Always reliable, I'm not gonna break my contract to go back to them, also I don't see the point of it... I'm still skeptical... I mean is it really worth it?
Frankly, I don't see what all the hubbub's about. A phone's just a phone in my opinion.-Spock-100% Agree.

I believe it appeals to people who don't have a phone or an IPod or a PDA, etc, and want them all in one (expensive) package.

It's interesting though, because I wonder if Apple will make the same move they did with iPods to get these devices down into a price for the masses? I never quite got why no company has made an effort to do that - sure Palm PDAs got to $100 ~ $200, but the Treo models and the like were never dropped to those prices.
Tracphones start at $15, so how much can it really cost to take the circuitry from a Tracphone, strap it in to a cheap PDA, and call it a cell phone?
It is really fun to see so many "stereotypical Apple users" waiting in line for launch though... the sharp division from the "last gen" Apple user - typically an older, maybe a little chubby, collared-shirt wearing industry-workers... people who have been working in advertising or digital media for two decades who think Apple is the best company. Then you have their "new generation" of urban youth - youngsters of all races, colors, and creeds who buy into Apple's manufactured cool, sitting outside in their chuck taylor's and faux hawks waiting to get the latest in sleek plastic with gloss coating. I absolutely love it.

What?
$ 600 ........iPhone
$ 42 ..........sales tax
$ 36 ..........activation fee
$1440 ........two years monthly fees
$ 540 .........two years taxes on usage
------------------------------------------
$2658.........ouch
In contrast, a typical $40/month plan, with one of the free camera phones, and a $36 activation fee would total to $1332, a full $1326 less expensive.

well its easy to see why apple is thriving even though they dont much market share in the OS market. ripping off everyone stupid enough to stop and glance at their products.QFTFrankly, I don't see what all the hubbub's about. A phone's just a phone in my opinion.

corded phones with those spin dials FTW
-I'm not buying it.
-Not worth it.
-Won't be waiting for a price drop.
-Will be waiting for version 2.
-Yes, it is quite attractive.
The iPhone at the moment is lacking many features. Once those features are implemented, I'll consider buying one. Though by the time v2 is released, a competitor will have probably come out with a better device.

those "spin dials" were called rotary phones, my grandma had one and they were scheweet. Of course dialing a long distance number took about 5 minutes so there was none of this, "I just called to say hi" crap.
