Majora's Mask is ****ing Creepy

Still lacking a Wii or an Xbox 360 to play any of the current gen games, I am now turning to my roomie's N64 to have a blast from the past.

To elaborate, I have an option of playing either Super Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. I've chosen to play Majora (we also play loads of Smash Bros, btw), becuse I've only ever completed it once before, and because that game is beautiful and eerie and atmospheric and ****ing creepy. I really want the chance to play it again. This will be the first time I'll be playing it since I first finished it...

Anyway, so yeah, I'm currently on my way to the swamp, and this game is creepy. I mean, there's the moon, which always scaed the living crap out of me, and there's the music, which is just so edgy, plus the entire theme of impending doom, and the sheer depression of the fact that no mater what I do, everyone will die. This game is the maturest game Nintendo ever created, it deserves more respect. As far as I am concerned, it is miles ahead of Ocarina of Time, but for whatever reason, it will be forgotten- the 'black sheep' of the 3D Zelda games, if you will.

I think I can agree to this. Each Zelda had it's own elements of awesome, but IMO MM is in a whole different league.

Besides, I thought it nicely added in pressure, among the three day cycle.

I actually thought OoT was more creepier with the Bottom of the Well, Forest and Shadow Temple. Majora's Mask was still a little creepy through and a superb game.

I can agree with that.

For me, the 3D Zeldas go like:

The Wind Waker>Majora's Mask>Twilight Princess>Ocarina of Time

(yes, I find Ocarina to be incredibly overrated. It was just a 3D retread of ALttP, which is miles ahead of OoT in every way).

I used to think Majora's Mask was the best Zelda. Then I replayed LttP. Then I replayed LttP.

I never really understood the love for Wind Waker. Of course, great game is great, but it's the weakest out of the 3D Zelda games. Well, to be fair I'm one of the three or so people who've yet to play TP. But my point still stands.

I dug its overall premise and charm, but the land you were in wasn't all that enticing, sailing was boring sometimes, it's a little on the short side by Zelda standards, and worst of all it was embarrassingly easy. Like, so easy that you wouldn't have a hard time finishing the game not getting any heart containers or heart pieces. Which I did when I played it years ago.

Which of course allowed you to see far more about the people in the city than any normally moving timeline would have. And can you suggest a better way of dealing with the saving in the game?foxhound_fox

Make no mistake guys, I love Majora, which is why I made this thread, which is why the game is all I've ben playing for over a day now. It's just that when I died in the dungeon, it set me back by a couple of hours, and that pissed me off. I mean, sure, foxhound, you make some good points there, but I prefer to explore things because I want to, not because I am made to. Now whereas I love Majora's constant timer and countdown, and the race against time, I hate it that the save system is directly linked to that. All I wish, and yes, both of you, this would make the save system better, is that the owl statues allowed permanent saves.

yep it had such an amazing atmosphere, definetly my favorite zelda game and one of the only 3 zeldas Ive played through to the end the other 2 being phantom hourglass and minish cap, Ive gotten far into most of the others but I always get stuck at some point and end up dropping them. Majoras mask was the only one that hooked me through till the end dragonfly110

It certainly is one of the greatest games of all time. It's not without its flaws, but damn, it's great :)
