Should I get into PC gaming? I'm by no means that tech savvy, so I have no idea how much my PC would cost to upgrade, but here is what I'm using:

http://www0.epinions.com/pr-Hewlett_Packard_Presario_SR1230nx_pj518aa_PC_Desktop

So, can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much that would cost to upgrade? And if someone could name some popular PC franchises my way, I'd be thankful.

Something along the lines of Grim Fandango and Half-Life? Maybe?

Well since it looks you have some kind of onboard video but also have an AGP slot, buying any sort of real graphics card would immediately put you in a position to play a lot of games.  Something like a 7600 GS would work very nicely for you, and would run you around $150.  An X800 GTO would also be good for around $130, or even a 6600 for around $100.

If you coupled that with another 512MB of DDR 333 RAM for about $50 (DDR 333 is the fastest your system can use), you'd have a computer that could totally handle games like Half Life 2, FEAR, Quake 4, Oblivion, etc.  Of course you wouldn't be able to max them out (except maybe HL2), but you would certainly be able to play them have them look good.

I am waiting till Vista comes out and picking up UT2007 when I get it. Grim Fandango and Sam and Max are the only 2 PC games I still need to check out...

Hmm, add another 512 and a good graphics card and I think you'll be set up for some pretty good gaming. You might want to try playing some free games such as America's army just to get a feel for it. Just remember though, the experience gets much better with upgraded hardware.

O_O Thank you. That's very, very helpful. But, should I upgrade it, or should I wait for Vista to come out?

Alright, I'll take that into consideration.

I don't think there's much reason for you to wait for Vista, unless you planned on building/buying a whole new computer.  Besides, you need to catch up on a whole lot of PC gaming.  :P

I've been thinking of upgrading my PC for a while now (If I can find a steady job around here...)

I want to get a Core 2, this one in particular. I know I'd have to swap my mobo for a new one and get a new GPU, such as an X1900 XT. Plus a RAM upgrade, Power supply, HDD... hell I'm probably better off buying a new PC.

I would get the new X1900XT 256mb. It should be excellent for the price.

Of course the 256mb model is cheaper.

It's okay if you're not tech savvy. It's really not that hard to built and maintain PCs. You can look all over the internet, and there's plenty of useful info about all that. As for that PC, I wouldn't go for that. You should really look to build your own. Just give me the price range you're looking for and I'll recommend you some parts.

$400-$600. The cheaper the better, but I don't mind paying a little extra for the good stuff.

Of course. Also, my mom has that exact same computer. I must say that you should buy an AGP video card (that's what my mother's comp uses...I think) for it ASAP though.

Alright. Try going onto newegg.com, and look for a AMD 3200+, a 7600 GT, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 100 GB HD, a decent case, a DVD drive, a decent PSU, a decent mobo, and a sound card if you'd like. Might sound confusing, but I'll break it down for you later.

This is a great PC for $600. Getting a 7900GT is sort of ambitious. You can spend $30 more to get a 7600GT. If you buy the computer pieces at different times, you could probably save about $30. https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/WishList/TemporaryWishList.asp?BundleExist=N
