Union Gaming news site Discussion Thread

Alright, since I've gotten warm reception about the idea of creating our own gaming site, Here's where we do all the planning and organization before actually going through with it.

If you're interested in being a contributor, post here. All help is appreciated, whether you're willing to contribute full time or only once in a while.

We're going to need to figure out hosting arrangements (although this this looks good), staffing, a name for the site,  Site design (templates, graphics etc.) and much more before we can go through with it but I'm sure we can do it if we all chip in.

I'm all for it, but I know virtually nothing about coding, HTML etc.. Maybe I can just be a forum moderator...

Sorryy, I cant support this. So I'm leaving this union. It has been fun, but creating a new site because some people got banned? Nah, seems like they are just mad they got banned to me, like SW.com, who are anti-GS when the reason they got banned was their own faults. jechtshot78

I'm not talking about starting a new forum and migrating there because a few people were banned. I'm against that idea. I'm talking about creating a gaming site, like GS or IGN, just smaller. A place for Gaming news, previews, reviews, etc. Not a new forum.

I'm all for the idea. But, like AK, I have no clue about HTML coding and that kind of stuff. I could do reviews...but I don't know much else that I could be of service with...arber91

I guess there would be a forum for others to talk in but complete migration would be a bad idea. With so many people being against it, that would just split the union and I don't want this union to die. I think if we did create a forum we would only post in it occasionally and moderate, not completely migrate to that forum.

I was just recruited into the Reviewers Legion and they have their own little gaming magazine up. It was really well done. They had a lot of great articles inside and it got me thinking, maybe as an add on to the site, we can create a downloadable gaming magazine. We could save it as a PDF file and host it somewhere to go along with the rest of the site. What do you guys think?The_Game21x

I'm reviving this thread because I'm really willing to get this started. All I need is a dedicated group of people willing to work to get it started. We just need to plan everything out. Again, if you'r willing to contribute, just post here. All help is appreciated.

I'm thinking we could create a small site from the beggining, maybe on Freewebs until we get the word out and we gather a sizeable fanbase. I'm still shopping around for affordable web hosting to get us going once we get this off the ground. Once we get things planned out, I can start writing up a few articles to post on the site.

Okay, for the hell of it, I created a gaming blog. It's completely seperate from my personal blog, and it allows multiple users to edit the blog. I'm pretty sure you have to create a google account (gmail) or a blogger account to access it, so once you've done that, give me your email address and I can invite you to become an author for the site. if you don't have a gmail account and you would like one, I can also send you an invite to create one of those as well.

Here's the link, please note the name of the site can always be changed, but not the URL. If you have an idea for a better site name, I can change it. Also keep in mind that I haven't really done anything to it yet. I'm typing up a few articles and a few reviews to post.

For now, I figured there was little point in creating a real site and paying for hosting because no one knows about it yet and we'd have a very limited audience. Once we spread the word and get a decent userbase, we can create a new site and move everything there.

If you have any ideas about possible improvements, let me know.

Well, you already have my PM concerning the gaming blog, but I just remembered something. I have personal webspace that has been provided to me by my college for me to do whatever I wish with it. We could start working on how our site looks online, and when it finally takes off, we could just move everything from the small webspace to a more open hosting company. Another thing is that I would have to hold all of the web docs since the access into the ftp space is the same as the access into my intranet space at my uni.Brain3000

I'd be happy to contribute with articles/previews/reviews etc, and as a forum mod ofcourse. I don't know anything about HTML, so I can't help build the site.

Actually, a friend of mine owns a gaming site, he said if someone pays him, he'll give us the whole site, sub-sites, and contacts over at Sega, and other gaming developers. Want me to ask him? I'm sure we can rename the domain and everything when it's ours.FalconZero
