Overall I thought MS had the best showing. FFXIII going multiplat was definitely the jaw dropper of E3, at least for me. Overall I thought there show was good, if not a little lame at times. You could really notice that MS is trying to capture some of the more casual audience from Nintendo. Overall, 8/10.

Nintendo, IMO, was visually appealing but didn't introduce much. I was impressed with the add on for the remote, but I think it's one of those things you need to get hands on time with to really see the difference. I thought Wii music looked interesting and I'm curious to see what Nintendo can do with it. Overall no real "hardcore" games (although I think Reggie said Animal Crossing is for hardcore gamers?!?) Overall, 6/10.

Even though Sony didn't realease any new info, I thought they appealed to the hardcore gamer crowd most. I wanted more info on Home and was hoping for spring a few new IP's on us, but no luck. It was probably the first time I've shown interest in LBP and I thought they did a good job of showing it off. Glad to see they increased the GB's for the same price, but I was also hoping for more info on BC. Overall, 7/10.

The scores I provided were just in comparison to each other, overall I wasn't as impressed with this E3 as I have been in previous years.

Sony:

Showed lots of games, came out with a few announcements (Stardust Portable, Ratchet on PSN, Resistance PSP, MAG) I didn't know about, PSN is catching up to Live, vowed more support in PSN and PSP, showed off more LittleBigPlanet, Greatest Hits line is great.

Wanted some more IPs and more gameplay for some big games.

Grade: A-

MS:

Most of their stuff was known before hand, but GeoW 2 still looks great, Geometry Wars 2 and Portal Still Alive is awesome, I like the XBL 2.0 stuff and Fable 2. Lips....ok, but didn't care about the rest of the casual, "Me Too!" games.

Wanted more unknown games and more looking ahead. Lacked any surprises.

Grade: B+

Nintendo:

All talk of sales and casual games. I don't care (at all) about either. The 1:1 was neat, but depends on what they are charging, and they could have came up with a much better game to show it off with and pack it in with, IMO. Only game that appealed to me at all was GTA DS, and that was just a title on a screen. Nintendo either blew E3 or is only targeting casuals. I hope its just the first one.

Wanted alot more. Pretty much got nothing I was looking for. Wait....scratch the pretty much.

Grade: D

EDIT: For readability

Easily Microsoft. They showed off games like RE5, FF13 and Banjo: N&B. That alone wins it for me.

It's a toss up between Microsoft and Sony for me.

Microsoft

From the beginning of the conference until the point when they fell off into casual land with their unveils of You're in the Movies, Lips and the new Scene It, Microsoft was showing off a killer list of games like Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2 Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts and Fable 2. The surprise unveils of Portal: Still Alive and Geometry Wars 2 were pretty sweet and I'm digging the new Xbox Live features (even though they blatantly ripped off the Miis) and interface. To top it all off, the megaton announcement of Final Fantasy XIII was a surprise that neither Sony nor Nintendo could match. My only qualms with the conference are centered around the casual games I talked about earlier which, (and I'm looking squarely at you "You're in the Movies") looked incredibly lame. I also hated how those games took up most of the allotted time for the conference. The demo for You're in the Movies should not have been that long especially considering the time could've been better spent in my opinion.

Sony

Very strong introduction coupled with a strong showing of games and a dash of creativity. Using Little Big Planet to show off their business presentation was a stroke of genius and by far the most entertaining presentation of the sort that I've seen (Powerpoint eat your heart out). Sony did something Microsoft and Nintendo should've done and that's focus most of their efforts on showing off a killer lineup of games and exclusives. The only drawback to the conference was that...nothing they showed was unexpected. Nothing they showed surprised me. Their "Me too" video service looked almost exactly the same as the offerings on Xbox Live, only a year later. There are some advantages such as the ability to transfer films to the PSP but again, largely similar and with all the rumors swirling, not at all unexpected.

Altogether pretty even in my book. I may write a much more in depth analysis of the two conferences tomorrow.

As for Nintendo...well, let's not discuss their travesty of a conference...

Pretty much I was disappointed in the conferences of all three major publishers. Here's an excerpt from my blog....

Microsoft:

Well what can I say here? Perhaps the biggest "Megaton" was the announcement of FF XIII coming to the 360. (Which I have to admit didn't surprise me too much but at the same time doesn't affect my choice of getting it still for the PS3) Yet frankly, what I have to say displeased me a bit with this conference was more so the confusion I got from it.

After letting all the nice Gears 2 gameplay wash away, the kick in the balls to Sony with the announcement of FF XIII coming over, and the nice tease of seeing Banjo coming back... I felt like MS was having an identity crisis. Showing off more casual friendly games than before, showing their imitations of the competitions offering rather than showing something unique and original. (Mii avatars, Home like abilities with Live Party system and so forth.)

Now I'm not saying having the 2.0 Dashboard updates will be all bad, nor do I think it's bad per se, it's just that MS showed me nothing to get hyped about. Nothing I really felt "Wowed" by (Except the FF XIII announcement a bit) and nothing exclusive that would make me counting down the days for release. Sure, I'll buy Gears 2 likely, and I'll get Banjo, and yet those were givens. RE 5? Yeah you bet I will. However, that's it... where was the original game or new IP I felt would be so awesome or keeping an eye on, where was the "Megaton" announcement that would be the Halo, Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy level one comes to expect?

Overall there wasn't anything that blew my mind, but I will say this... of the three ... MS didn't leave the most bitter taste in my mouth...

Nintendo:

Ah yes... The Big N. What can I say about their presentation that wasn't said by the audience there already? I mean, it's no surprise I love Nintendo, it's no secret that I have fond memories with them and still consider them one of the best in the industry bar none.

Yet to be honest, I can't seem to understand where Nintendo is going here. I'm not calling the "they are abandoning the hardcore" just yet. Yeah, the only game I was excited to hear about was Animal Crossing City Folk for Wii. The 1:1 motion plus looks like it could be fun, and I may even buy Wii Sports 2 just for that and because I like Wii Sports.

With that in mind... it was utter disappointment one after another for me. Nintendo did not show me any core games, they teased me with words like "Sounds like the music from F-zero," the Sword fighting duels in Wii Sports, a Wave Race game in WSR and so much more, but what did I get? Long sessions of sales, charts, graphs, moving the industry, and other talks and Wii games catered to "Everyone" but not "Me" the core gamer.

I was hoping for Disaster Day of Crisis news, a game I've been following since the announcement but have heard nothing of it, I've been wanting even the Kirby game that was announced for the GC back in what... 05? to be shown, I wanted a Star Fox Trailer, a new IP announced that catered to Everyone like Mario does and not Wii Sports, and ... I wanted something to be shown that was at least the core audience that brought them here today.

Sadly, none of that was found, it was just disappointment one after another, and I can't say... I even know what I want now for the Wii this moment. I can't tell what's coming out, and I can't say I'm even too excited for anything much other than Animal Crossing and maybe Wii Sports 2. That's it...

Sony:

Seriously, I don't know what to say. Sony seems to have it's act somewhat together. They made announcements and confirmations of games like GoW III, R2, inFamous, and other great core titles. The movie store is launching and yet...

with all that said and done... the words "Just wait" spring to mind.

When is HOME coming out? What's up with LBP? What about Killzone? (I never played the first, but this is obviously a title many clamor for on the PS3) and why is it... we get nothing new or any info on games that have been announced back at E3 '06?

Sony continues to tease with games coming soon, games that may release eventually, and touting the PS3's power and it's 10 year life span plan. (Which at this rate, I guess it could be true, but I wouldn't say it's a plus.... nor a good approach)

I see some promising titles, I see long waits coming and I see that really... I'm not sure what my PS3 will be doing for some time other than playing Blu-Ray movies and the occasional game or two when it hits... if it hits.

FF XIII, when will you be out? LBP, come now please! HOME... really is it coming? R2 could keep me going for some time, but my goodness... the waiting game really tries my patience and I'm a patient man.

They were all pretty lackluster with Nintendo being the worst. The only standout thing in any of them was FFXIII betrayal-ton.

With a day to reflect on it, none of them. Nintendo Nintendo's was poor, a display of ego stroking, forced enthusiasm, and missed opportunities. Looking at the news that's come out over the past couple of days, there's some good stuff they could've played up. Wario Land Shake still looks awesome, they're finally bringing Rhythm Tengoku (Rhythm Heaven) to the US, The Conduit looks badass, you've got stuff like MegaMan 9 coming to WiiWare, oh, and Capcom just announced Dead Rising for the Wii, plus who knows what stuff they're keeping under wraps, but we don't get any of that. Instead we get Shaun White's Snowboarding, Wii Music, a new Guitar Hero for the DS, and some executive lady who's the death of charisma telling us about how she broke her wrist. Microsoft Microsoft showed off some good games and the FFXIII thing was huge, plus the Rock Band setlist they announced: heavenly. But once again Microsoft couldn't make its damn mind up what it wants to do. It showcases all these great games, and then it announces the new Xbox Live, which frankly looks atrocious. It's like they took the horizontal layout of the XMB, the aesthetics of the Wii's interface, supercolided them together, and took the horrific chimera they made and foisted it onto the already established and excellent Xbox Live. I can't say definitely until I actually get to try it, but it looks like MS just screwed up one of their best advantages in mindless pursuit of casuals. Not good. Sony Those of you on IRC with me yesterday might remember I was pretty positive about Sony's conference. Well, after reflection, not so much. Part of it was personal, when the hype and excitement of the trailers wore off and I realized pretty much all the sequals they showed off were sequals to games I don't like. Resistance, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, don't care about any of them. But the bigger, and more universal, problem I saw was a subliminal air of pleading for more time. They showed off a lot of games for 2009, a lot of the talk was "This is only year 2 of the 10 year PS3 cycle," and their big reveals, God of War 3 and MAG, didn't even show off gameplay. So, in retrospect, there just wasn't that much there, and a lot of what was I just don't really care about. Another middling showing. So I'd say Nintendo was the worst, but none of them really deserve the title of "best".

The only thing worth commenting on E3 thus far is the Final Fantasy betrayal and Nintendo's poor excuse of a conference. Sony barely made a wave as far as news is concerned.

I wouldn't say any of them had a conference worthy of the "best" title, but MS's sucked the least due to the fact they're the only manufacturer that seems to know what they're doing. With Square-Enix now on board the 360 is going to become a much more attractive product in Japan, and the FFXIII decision will lead to some Japan-centric developers/publishers at least taking a second look at the 360 *cough* Konami *cough* MGS4 *cough*. As for Avatars, Netflix and the XBL overhaul, it isn't too big a deal now, but it shows that MS is looking for ways to not only attract more "casuals", but to help make the 360 on its own a more viable product. Whether or not their plans will work is dabatable, but at least their intentions are clear.

Sony came across as a deer in the headlights -- they've finally realized the PS3 and PSP need a shot in the arm (or a defibrillator), but due to delays and the changing market it seems like they don't know how to approach the problem. So rather than going the MS route and saying "here's what we want to do, here's how we're going to do it" and adopting a plan, Sony seems to be sending out feelers like the R&C episodic content and other PSN games, the video store (how the hell does it take this long for Sony, an honest-to-god movie studio, to get a video store), and their deluge of shooters (I think I can hear the original Xbox giggling). They aren't doing anything to right the ship, but they aren't taking on any more water either.

As for Nintendo... well...

FFXIII is not going to be released on 360 in Japan. At least there are no plans yet and if it did come to Japan it wouldn't be until well after the PS3 version.

Also More gifs summing up Nintendo conference.

No they were all made by posters on NeoGaf.

The girl in the bottom one is from the Japanese Fatal Frame 4 TV ads. I think the ads start halfway through this video showing all the Fatal Frame 4 trialers and ads.

Business is business, and it's a conference about how the company is doing. Complaining about sale charts and such is ridiculous, but people will continue to do that. I think all 3 companies did an average job but Sony seemed desperate by showing everything and revealing it. Microsoft is just bad at conferences, with their very cheesy and cocky speakers. And lastly, Nintendo once again hides everything from us and they seem to be oblivious of what is going on around them.

None of them were very good but to me, FFXIII going multiplat was the biggest announcement so I guess I'd say MS won it.

Sony had some good stuff though and I am liking LBP more and more everytime I see it. I won't mention the other company, still bitter.

I don't think any company had a particularly strong showing. Outside of FF13 and the 4 games at the start, the rest of the Microsoft conference was pretty terrible. It was certainly the most awkward to watch. All the movie stuff, You're in the Movies, the Singstar ripoff, the Eyetoy ripoff, avatars. It was just really poor stuff. Also, the new Portal is just new maps. No new story or GLaDOS. :(

Sony's was fairly drawn out, but I think it was the most consistently solid showing. Resistance 2 looked very good, the LBP demonstration was brilliant, the PSN games looked really good, PSP looked promising, God of War 3 was teased. M.A.G is...I dunno. It has a terrible name, that's for sure. I just thought it was the wrong thing to end the conference with.

Nintendo...yeah. Everything about that conference was terrible, even Animal Crossing. We don't have time to show you loads of new games (after spending 10 minutes talking about sales), so here's 3 games nobody cares about. Wii Music is a game that plays itself, they're splitting the market with the new Wii-mote addon, Wii Ware wasn't mentioned at all. What's worse, Nintendo's most interesting game (Mad World) wasn't even at the conference; a trailer was shown elsewhere. They didn't even announce the new Pikmin until yesterday.

While they are working on a new Zelda and Mario (shocking, I know), those games are probably miles away. So if you're a hardcore gamer who owns a Wii, what are you going to be playing in the next 6 months? Especially when there's a flood of great games coming out on PS3/360/PC.

Overall, Sony > Microsoft > Nintendo. I'd also rather listen to Jack than Reggie, that woman or the stuck up Microsoft people. Even the guy who was doing the Rock Band announcement was annoying to listen to. "And Metallica! *raises hand*" That was cringe-worthy.

Being a PS3 and 360 owner, the only conferences I had any interest in were Sony and Microsoft.

Sony's conference was good, they showcased a lot of games that I had interest in. The Resistance 2 campaign demo was cool and got me more excited for the game. With that being said, I was dissapointed when Ted Price didn't mention a release date. I do expect the game to be released this November, but an official announcement would have cooled my nerves and assured me that I'd definitely be playing this game in November. R&C Quest for Booty was another interest piece. I had always been a fan of R&C, but I never found myself in a position to buy Tools of Destruction. With Quest for Booty coming out, I may make a point of picking up Tools of Destruction soon. Another annoucement which got me excited was the PS3 Greatest Hits collection. Now I'll finally be able to pick up Motorstorm, Warhawk and possibly Ninja Gaiden Sigma for cheap. As for the major annoucements from Sony; God of War III looked interesting, but I never got into the God of War series, so my response to it was low key. InFamous looked good, but I'll wait to see more from it to make an honest judgement. Finally, Massive Action Game (MAG) looked very promising. The fact that Zipper is developing that game makes me all the more excited. It'll be nice to read more about this game when it becomes available in the future.

Grade (Sony): 8/10

I enjoyed Microsoft's conference as well. I was unable to watch it live, so my summary will be a lot shorter than the one for Sony. They showcased what exactly what I wanted to see, games. The obvious big hitter that I was interest in was Gears of War 2. The five player co-op mode got me excited and the fact they officially announced a release date was also great news. Fallout 3, I never really had a lot of interest in, but thanks to the presentation, I feel a little interest coming on. Along with Fallout 3, I had very little interest in Fable 2, but after watching the demo fron E3 Live last night, once again I am beginning to feel a small level of intrigue coming on. The announcement of the first GTA IV Episode coming this year didn't produce that big of a response from me, partially because I have lost complete interest in the game. Now for the big surprise announcement that shook the halls of SW, FFXIII on 360! Unfortunately, I have never found myself into Final Fantasy, or rather JRPG's in general, so my reaction was quite miniscule (Actually the first thought that popped into my head was "Well there goes SW"). The only dissapointment, I felt, was the fact that there really weren't any new games announced by Microsoft. What also surprised me was their silence on the new Bungie game, which, as some of you know, is in fact a new Halo game.

Grade (Microsoft): 7.5/10

So I guess you can say Sony won in my eyes, but they way I feel, none of the companies won, gamers did.

I only own a PC and a 360, my brother owns the PS3, so I only really care about Microsofts.

Overally I kind of impressed. The new dashboard GUI is nice and a bunch of more community features will make keeping in touch with friends better. As for games, I am really happy to see FFXIII go to the 360 because I have no money to buy a PS3. Other than that it was good. Bunch of the same ol' same ol'. I would have liked to see a few new games shown though.

I think Sony won because they gave me a reason to keep my PS3 with Resistance 2 and LBP this year, with KZ2/iNFAMOUS early next year. MS did a pretty good job also, but Sony gave me more games I wanted.

Nintendo...doesn't deserve to be mentioned.

All of them sucked. E3 sucked this year.

Sony and Ms's conferances sucked significantly less than Nintendo's.
