How do I transfer music to my ipod touch (4th gen, iOS 5)

I have no idea how to put music on it, and it won't show up on iTunes. I tried to use the Copy trans manager but that doesn't work either. Can anyone help me please?

What version of itunes are you using? If you aren't using 10.0 itunes won't recognize your ipod
