Should I get the Galaxy S3 mini now or should I wait and get the Galaxy S4?

I want to get a new phone, but I'm actually really low on budget. Like, really really low. My brother got the Galaxy S3 mini yesterday and I tried it, and I LOVED it! More than my other brother's Galaxy S2.

I'm now seriously considering getting it since my budget would allow for it, but not anything better. However, I saw videos of the Galaxy S4 and I liked the features it has and how powerful it is. But if I'm to get the Galaxy S4, that would be in at least 6 months from now. That's at the very least if I save up as much as I can.

On top of that, I'll be going to college in like 6 months, and I really need a new phone, but I still don't want to pay super high prices because I'm gonna need that money for other things once I get into college.

So, what do you guys think? Is the Galaxy S3 mini worth it for the price (I personally think it is, but I'm not too sure) and for someone very low on budget? Or should I just wait and get the S4 (but that would probably be in like 8-12 months, by then the S5 would be out and so on and on...)?

Additional suggestions are welcome, if they are in the same price range of the S3 mini and only if they have a microSD slot (that's an essential feature to me lol..).

Kinda depends on what phone you have now and if you think you can live with it for another 4-6m. By then the price will probably drop depending on which carrier and your contract. I just got the S4 and it's pretty awesome to me, but i'm coming from an S1, so it's a huge jump. Also even the used prices for the S4 will go down a lot once the new iPhone releases as there are a lot of sheep that like to have the "hottest" thing and apple is still fashionable.

Well I currently have the Nokia X6, which is waaay out-dated now and mine is kinda getting old. Like literally getting old, like it's dying lol. xD Seriously, everyday it comes up with a new problem. Anyway, I'm gonna get it factory unlocked with no contract. I'm already subscribed to a carrier and a revocable-at-any-time contract, which works on every unlocked phone. Also, I think going from the X6 to the Galaxy S3 mini is also a huge jump for me as well. So what do you think? I kinda desperately need a new phone...

Why exactly did you like the S3 mini more than the S2? The S2 is superior in literally every single way, I am pretty sure the S2 you used wasnt updated to jelly bean and hence why you didnt like it that much. But you should know that currently both are running the same android and touchwiz version. S2 is hard to come by new these days but if you are able to get one then forget about the mini.

However I would personally recommend you an xperia T, its just slightly more expensive than S3 mini and is way way better, its better than S2 as well and basically any other phone in the price range. Its a killer value right now atleast where I live.

The S2 I used was updated to the latest Android Jelly Bean version. It's more about tastes. :) I personally liked the S3 mini a lot more than the S2. Thanks for suggesting the Xperia T though. I'll consider it.

You know what? I saw reviews and videos of the Xperia T, and I compared between it and the Galaxy S3 mini, and I liked it more. I think that's it, I found a cellphone, thanks to you. :) Thank you a lot. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have even considered the Xperia T. ;) P.S.: Sorry for the double post.

The xperia sp is superior to the xperia T and is on a low budget plan... its the best bang for buck phone out there.

No the SP is quite a bit more pricey.

And its not necessarily the better phone, the Xperia T has more storage and better front/back camera whereas the SP has better GPU and much bigger battery. In the end its the 5GB internal memory which disqualifies the SP as far as I am concerned, its just way too big a compromise.

Nobody who is looking for "budget" phone cares about 4G, I dont know which place on earth has cheap 4G pre-paid.

Guys, I'm now considering both the Xperia T and the Xperia SP.

What I like about the T is that it has stereo speakers, has more storage, has a much better camera, and supports Adobe Flash. What I dislike about the T is that it has a worse battery than the SP which is also non-removable.

What I like about the SP is that it has a Corning Gorilla Glass display, has a slightly better processor (1.7GHz compared to 1.5GHz), and has a better battery than the T which is removable. What I dislike about the SP is that it has no stereo speakers, and has less storage.

Important note: I also happened to stumble upon the Xperia TX while writing this post, which basically I think it's almost exactly like the T but with a removable battery (which is a wee bit worse), and a slightly different build. Should I get that one? Honestly I liked it the most out of the three.

Please pay attention that I don't care about 4G support.

And I have a question. If the battery in the T breaks, then how can I resolve this?

P.S.: I decided to post this here since I already created this thread and it's only a day old so why create a new one? So please ignore my original question about the Galaxy. Thanks. :)

The xperia sp has a neat flashing LED that flashes while playing music or getting messages and a few other things, adds a nice touch to the phone, also the GPU of the xperia SP is far superior to the Xperia t and TX.. its the same gpu thats in the nexus 4. The most powerful is the Xperia SP it also has a bigger battery than my HTC One. The weakest but the cheapest is the Xperia T, ultimately stick to a budget and work off that. I think the xperia SP will be supported officially longer than all the others ones, but sony have best after market support so you can get custom roms on practically any sony handset.

Ultimately it boils down to bigger battery vs more application storage, these are the 2 things that are actually gonna make a big difference in how you will use your phone. Remember android does not let you install apps on the memory card. Considering the phone you currently have it really isnt important which phone has the better GPU or the better camera.

And I would advise you to avoid the xperia TX since it is a limited release phone which means worse software support.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'll probably be using it for like 2 years or something before I upgrade to something else. Plus, I really liked the features it has to offer. More than the T. Like, displaying 3D and the removable battery for example. I want something with an easily replaceable battery that I could replace any time, or that I could always have a backup battery. Plus, it's James Bond's phone. Lol xD

If you want to keep it for 2 years get the fastest one you can.

And you mentioned flash earlier, all modern android devices can run flash.

Sorry I thought the TX was a carrier exclusive phone but turns out it isnt. Sure if you want removable battery its a good option but do note that its actual battery is smaller.

Can you not afford a galaxy S3? And can I ask why you must have an SD card slot?

Well, first of all, I definitely can't afford an S3 at this point. And honestly I'm a Sony fan. I've also never tried Sony phones, so I said why not give it a shot. Secondly, yes, you can ask why I must have an SD card slot. :) Well, it's because I simply basically just need more storage. I'm going to use it for music a lot. So, I need a whole lot of storage. That's the reason. :) You might say that I could get a phone with 64GB internal storage, but, to be honest... - how to say it? - you are welcome to give me the money, man! xD Lol

Its $390 here and nexus 4 16GB is $410 so its not really good value. Xperia T is $330 thats why I considered it such a good deal.

Mind you having 2GB ram is alot more future proof and "next gen" than having the latest chipset so I wouldnt call this phone future proof. History shows us that android phones almost always get outdated due to low ram before anything else.

Actually, guys, here in Israel cellphones are ridiculously expensive - just like anything else. So I'm thinking to import it and the cheapest is the T, next is the TX but just a few bucks more, then the SP, and finally the S3.

Would you be buying a spare battery and charger if you get the TX? If not then dont bother and go with the T. Yes I know eventually a battery will worn out and you have to replace it but thats so long into the future you should be fine for around 2 years. If the TX had the same battery size then I would have said that its definitely the better buy.

Most likely yes I would be having a spare battery and charger, that's mainly why I want a removable battery. And to be honest I just liked the design of the TX more. Also, come to think of it, it's only 100 mAh smaller than the T's battery, which wouldn't probably make a huge difference. In addition, having the option to always carry a spare battery with you doubles the lifetime of the battery in some way, so it becomes almost twice as good as the battery of the T. Of course it's not exactly this way, but you can kinda think of it from that angle. What do you think now? Is the TX the better buy with a spare battery? :) By the way, how do you guys edit your posts? I don't see an "edit" button below my posts or something similar...

Look if you care about removable battery so much then you should only be looking at samsung phones, every phone from top to bottom has a removable battery.

I would say that you save a bit more money and get a galaxy S3. If you cant then galaxy S2 is still a great option and I would highly recommend it over the S3 mini.

The xperia TX is really not worth the money right now. It goes for $400 and S3 goes for $430.

What if I tell you that I've tried many Galaxy phones, including the S2, S3 and S4, and it just didn't seem to be my style. I was going to get one of them just because like everybody has one. But, I tried the T today, and it's... PURE. AWE. SOME. NESS! xD It just seemed it was the phone for me. Like it was begging me to buy it. I honestly couldn't leave the store. Lol :) And I'm guessing the TX would be very similar. Why do you think the TX is not worth the money? And do you think the T is worth it? Thanks :)

Xperia TX isnt worth it because it costs so much more than the T just for an added bonus of removable battery isnt worth it.

Xperia V is an inferior phone compared to the ones we are talking about apart from water resistance. If you are willing to live with 8GB internal memory then the SP is the better option.

If you dont like samsung phones then you gotta live with sealed batteries. Honestly just go for the T since its the most logical choice given the price and you also seemed to love it yourself which makes this a no brainer.

I already ordered the Xperia TX. I'm not willing to spend large amounts of money since I'm gonna need it, for I applied to college and I need every penny I can save. But the Xperia TX seemed to be a great phone as well. :)
