If you can find an HP touchpad, go for it. You can find them dirt cheap, and they are excellent for the price. Theres a few caveats to it though
-Build quality blows. I have a case around mine and yet somehow the plastic back is scratched, and the plastic around the speakers are cracked. Its not like its falling apart, but its not something I'd trust to survive a fall without a case
-You will have to put some work into getting android on it. While 4.0 runs amazing on it, it isn't the easiest process in the world to make it happen. Not terrifying or anything, though.
When I say 4.0 runs amazing on it, though, I'm absolutely serious. It runs like a dream, I've yet to have any app incompatabilities, its like a legitimate, full size android tablet that I bought for 150 bucks.
That said, its hard to find a touchpad. Other considerations:
-Refurbished anything can be found for that price point
-the google nexus tablet should be coming along for about 250 in couple months
-the kindle fire is pretty solid
-yeah, the iPad is always an option.
