Suspect in Taylor's slaying to serve 29 years in prison

(AP) -- One of five suspects charged in the slaying of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and burglary.

Defense attorney Michael Hornung said Thursday that according to the plea agreement, Venjah Hunte will serve 29 years in prison and cooperate with prosecutors.

Hunte pleaded guilty on Friday but prosecutors requested the plea agreement be sealed because investigators were pursuing the fifth suspect, Hornung said.

That suspect, 16-year-old Timothy Brown, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and armed burglary of an occupied dwelling.

Good question. The penalty for Second Degree Murder (in FLA) is 25-40 years.

25-40? How would they get 40? Second degree murder that ends in many killed or what? Does it depend on quality? How gruesome it is? Or both?

Yeah, pretty much. It also depends on one's criminal history.

(1) The 2007 Florida Statutes (Murder) ; (2) Florida Murder Statutes, Chapter 775 (reoffenders)
(3) FLA's Lionel Tate Case (youngest person in U.S. history ordered to serve a Life Sentence)

He'll probably be out in 15 years if he doesnt screw up in prison, but the 16 year old shooter is done, life in prison with no parole. The other 3 guys might get 40 a piece even if they do testify against the shooter.
