Carlos Rogers, the Auburn cornerback who was the No. 9 pick overall in this year's NFL draft, reportedly has a stress fracture in his right foot, and may miss the start of the Washington Redskins' training camp, which begins July 31.

According to the Washington Post, the Redskins apparently believed Rogers was sidelined by a minor ankle sprain when he missed the team's two mini-camps. However, Rogers has been walking in a protective boot over the past two weeks.

The Post said the NFL Network was the first to reveal the severity of Rogers's injury during a broadcast Wednesday. According to the network, doctors discovered the stress fracture – which may have been a pre-existing injury – after examining Rogers's foot. The 5-foot-11, 199-pound cornerback is expected to have his foot re-examined this week, the Post said.

The Redskins did not provide an update of Rogers's injury Wednesday, and his agent, Todd France, could not be reached to comment, the Post reported in Thursday's editions.

It is believed Rogers originally suffered the injury last month at Auburn University, where he was working out on his own. During mini-camp (June 17 to June 19), Rogers said the injury occurred when he stepped onto an uneven surface. Rogers participated in Washington's final organized team activity on June 16, and aggravated the injury the next day, the first of mini-camp. Rogers sat out the following practice, according to the Post.

Rogers is behind Walt Harris, a nickel back last season who is projected as the starting cornerback opposite Shawn Springs . But the Redskins see Rogers as a replacement for Fred Smoot, who departed via free agency to Minnesota. Last Thursday, the Redskins signed cornerback Artrell Hawkins, a former Panthers reserve, to provide depth, the Post said.

Aww man, not Carlos. I'm not a fan of the Redskins, but since he went to Auburn I am a fan of him. That does suck for the Skins.

It may be bad news for the Redskins, but it's good news for me.
