" Belichick is never going to be a quipster, or a friend of the media. He's got a very long memory, and I'm sure that has something to do with his graceless postgame handshakes with coaches who have mildly rebuked him or the Patriots for something such as Spygate, like Tony Dungy. But the Patriots are having one of the best seasons a pro sports team has ever had. My hope is the football public appreciates what it's seeing and praises the team for being great, instead of firing at Belichick because he's an easy target." --Peter King

^ you dont see a point because you dont care, as in you dont care about what anyone thinks about him.

Just because you do something thats wrong doesnt mean you should be automatically shamed, you get your punishment then you need to redeem yourself!

Belichick did something wrong, he was shamed(a lot!), he got his fines and loss of a 1st round draft choice, and now he is redeeming himself, by kicking your favorite football teams a**! Because, he knows he is the best coach with the best team(probably ever) and he wants to show you how much of what he did wrong doesnt matter!

By the way i respect Peter King more then anyone on Si.com, and i was baffled when he wrote his 1-500(i think) best players and Manning was number 1 and Brady number 2, well i dont know where the article is, but he then wrote how he changed his mind and thinks Brady is the best player in the NFL. It was a great article!

I doubt it was since 2005. Otherwise, they wouldn't have lost those games against them ;).

Why are people calling him an idiot? He is a genius in terms of coaching. Not very likable, but I respect his coaching ability. Hell, even his hobo hoodie is amusing.

This is just an prime example of people not knowing what they have when they see it.

Belichick is a football genius that will be sorely missed when he retires.

You may love him or hate him, but you have to acknowledge that he is in a league of his own when it comes to his coaching abilities.

iam sure if anyone had Belichick as the coach of their favorite team they wouldnt hate him!

he did something stupid, very stupid!

But the man is still a genius when it comes to football and will go down as one of the greatest coaches!

He's like a Hacker in a video Game, (HE CHEATS)... I hate cheaters and hackers.gstonyr
This little Spygate thing is not at allequivalent to "hacking or using scripts" to cheat in a video game. When a cheating player uses a hack in a video game, what was once a "level playing field" of the game's battles is now tilted towards the cheater giving them an appreciable advantage for the entire game, or round (until he's finally kicked from the server). Correct?

Given the NFL's time guidelines for communication from the bench to the QB, it's highly unlikely that a play can be called or changed, once a signal is intercepted, before communication to the QB is disconnected. I believe that many in the media have echoed this statement, but it seems to be going in one ear and out the other of most viewers. I don't understand why this happens.

Stay with me for a minute, just a couple of points regarding so-called "cheating"...

Since this controversy is related to technology, consider these examples:
1. Throughout the 49'ers Dynasty of the 80's, they were famous for having their sideline communications system "malfunction" early in games, especially important ones, and in accordance to NFL rules when one team's system fails, the opponent must disconnect theirs until the problem is corrected. Many coaches complained about this, saying the Niners had an unfair advantage given the fact they scripted their 1st 15 plays (coincidentally when the systems failure occurred) and therefore weren't hurt by these so called "malfunctions" but in fact were assisted by them and questioned the timing as being suspicious at best. Was that cheating? Should we rethink the validity of their Titles?

2. 70's Cowboys. Assuming you know your NFL history, then you are aware that the Dallas Cowboys were years ahead of the rest of the NFL by being the first team to use computers to compile stats, chart the opposing team's offensive and defensive tendencies and use the data when game-planning; to scout college players compiling a huge database of stats to assist them evaluating draft talent, undrafted free agents, and so on. Was this cheating too? Should we discredit their Titles?

3.Consider the Parcells/Belichick "coaching tree". Are you prepared to say with certainty that Belichick is the first and only member of that fraternity during the current era of technology to use said tech to record signals? Do you not think that when Mangini blew the whistle, others weren't scrambling to destroy their "evidence"? Seriously?

Landry, Walsh, Belichick. All three can legitimately be called geniuses of their eras, and not one of them should have their team's wins, or accomplishments, diminished in any way.

Objective fans w/ an appreciation of these coaches, their intellects, and respective contributions to the game, seem to be the most level-headed of the lot-- almost everyone else comes across as a jealous whiner with a distorted view of reality regarding Spygate whenever the topic is discussed. :?

it's not the comunication that I'm mad at, it's the fact that he was video taping the coache studying them, and most likly tellign brady how to read the defense. either way it's the past. and ya nice lil history lesson lol, it's n awhile since i hoguht abotu Roger Starbatch, and th dallis, and joe Montana and the 49ers, only one team u left out. the steelers with Terry bradshaw

lets get this Spygate thing straight first!

the Commissioner stated he found no evidence using the tapes the recorded to steal the cheats then directly send the to the QB to catch the defense off guard.

The Pats and Belichick where fined for video taping where they shouldn't be and thats it!

If you listen to most ESPN analysts, the ones who actually know something about football, will say that the likely hood of the Pats reading the signal, then finding a offensive play to counter that, then get it to the QB have him call the play and get everyone re-set for the new play, and do all this with time to get the snap off is practically impossible!

I feel the same way and thought the same thing when this first came out, i also thin Belichick made a huge boneheaded move he never had to do!

People can have the crazy-biased-jealous opinions about the Pats and that fine but you can never take away thee accomplishments of what those players did to win those 3 SB! and what they are about to do this year!

I respect him as a coach but not a person.
