NFL ANNOUNCES 32 COMPENSATORY DRAFT CHOICES
Written by: - ffLiveWire - ¦ 3/26/2007
Source:
A total of 32 compensatory choices in the 2007 NFL Draft have been awarded to 16 teams, the NFL announced today.
Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it
acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.
The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32
compensatory choices announced today will supplement the 223 choices in the seven rounds of the 2007 NFL Draft (April
28-29). This year, the compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value
of the compensatory free agents lost.
Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The
formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this
formula.
One club this year (Cincinnati) will receive a compensatory pick even though it did not suffer a net loss of compensatory
free agents. Under the formula, the compensatory free agents Cincinnati lost were ranked higher than the ones it signed
(by a specified point differential based upon salary and performance).
The following 2007 draft picks have been determined by the NFL Management Council:

INDIANAPOLIS Lost: Edgerrin James, David Thornton, Larry Tripplett, Mike Vanderjagt Signed: Adam Vinatieri Other than Vandy those were big loses at the time, plus the Colts traded a second round (not that it matters in this formula) so they really need those 2 3rd round picks they have now.

So the Colts get a pick for losing Vanderjact? What a bunch of crap that is. Why don't they give Dallas one too? We spend alot to sign the idiot kicker.

Oh man I can't believe the colts get a 3rd round pick. That's a steal. That's like robbing a jewelry store. They win the superbowl and they get a 3rd round pick? Hell, they can upgrade well on defense and possibly grab some really good young talent this draft. They lost some guys but I definitely think they're all replaceable now.

I hope the Jags make good use of those compensatory picks, even if they are 7th rounders.

Forget about idiot kicker, Colts lost talent and offense and defense, somehow they became a better all around team but back in the day those were big loses, oh and keyword is "now".

Looks like Porter has turned a new leaf and is working hard. Same can't be said of Moss, though. I hope the Raiders trade him if he contnues to mope.

Even though moss isn't playing well.. I think he's worth a lot but I don't know if he's worth the money. I would rather have them trade Moss... Pick up CJ and pick up a QB sleeper.. (cough troy smith)... I know I know I'm hung up on troy Smith. I don't think everyone should kill him for that pathetic performance.. ok ok horrifying performance but he is QUALITY. He's like a Vick who can pass. I've officially gone crazy and now I'm hung up on this stupid CJ/Smith deal. lol.

Alright think of it like this.. Trade moss for a 2nd rounder and maybe an o-line man or d-line man who's real young.. pick up CJ.. then Pick up Troy Smith.. with the 2nd rounder you got from Moss.. you can solidfy your weak spots. Genius so genius. Also, they should pick up Carr just incase Troy Smith falls flat on his face.

Ah i'm over thinking this. Lack of sleep is doing this to me. I blame it on unseen forces.

good good I'm glad you agree. Did you hear about the Raiders wanting McCown? I would rather have Kerry Collins unleast I know Collins has an awesome arm. I wouldn't care if they pick up CJ. Troy Smith without a doubt is an incredible QB. I just can't believe his value dropped from like top 10 pick to 3-4th round because of one game. So much better then McCown. Even if they don't want Troy Smith, pick up Carr. Carr is a better QB in my opinion. I think Lions secured him though so hopefully McCown doesn't come our way. I don't want him.

No, actually, they think he's too short (Troy Smith). He's 6-1. These days, Defensive Lineman and even your own offensive linemen are taller than that, like 5 inches taller. I think Vick went 1st overall like 5 years ago is cuz linemen were shorter... Again, I didn't exactly pay attention to the NFL back then, so I don't know.

6-1 is not too small for a qb, Doug Flutie played QB and did just fine. You don't have to be huge to play QB

I think it maybe due to the fact that Troy Smith has an attitude problem.. a major one. So I think the fact taht he performed horribly in the biggest game of his life and has attitude problems (didn't he get in trouble with the law a bunch of times?) dropped his value. regardless, McCown no no.. Carr/troy Smith/Jamarcus Russell yes yes.

He does suck haha. But I heard the Lions solidfied him so thank the lord. I'm sure we can get an extra 2nd rounder for Randy Moss and some young dude and just pick up CJ. I don't know I just have this urge to really get Troy Smith but I know we won't. He was incredible in college. He won hiesman for a reason (and I know they aren't always that great in the NFL).

I don't wanna sound like a hater when I say this, but Troy Smith could be the next Chris Weinke. So you guys should also think about Drew Stanton or Trent Edwards. Drew Stanton is similar to Troy Smith in skill.

Well he's one of the top QB's in the draft this year. You'd might as well go for Drew Stanton or Troy Smith in later rounds. They actually played in a good confrence (Big 10)

I was thinking that we should just leave the Qb thing along and get like Brennan next season but then I thought we'd have to finish at the bottom for that. Do I want that? No. So I think we should try and address the issue. As for Chris Weinke, I never thought of that good point. Taking Troy Smith is a huge risk, but the physical talent from Troy Smith to Chris Weinke is huge. Troy Smith is a physical beast. He came to the combine out of shape but he's good. You may be right though he's a much bigger gamble then Jamarcus Russell or Brady Quinn.

Brennan went to a WAC School, where their only competition each year is a few interconfrence schools. I don't think he's worth it in the early first round, since you said "Finish at the bottom"

It's not that Brennan plays in the WAC, it's more of how June Jones has his offense set up. Because if you compare Brennan and Jamarcus Russell against Alabama, Brennan had more passing yards (350-207). But out of all the other Hawaii and Texas Tech QB's, I think Brennan has the best tools out of any of them and has the best chance to succeed.

Because if you compare Brennan and Jamarcus Russell against Alabama, Brennan had more passing yards (350-207). But out of all the other Hawaii and Texas Tech QB's, I think Brennan has the best tools out of any of them and has the best chance to succeed.

i agree with that, it doesn't matter that he is from a smaller conference

Brennan is from a smaller conference but he completely tears the teams he plays against. It's not just normal beatings. He has the talent and it's pretty obvious. The fact that he threw for 72%.. incredible. That clearly shows he's an awesome talent. I think he's easily a first round pick if not a top 10. He may not have the strength or physical superiority of Jamarcus Russell, but he reminds me a lot of Tom Brady. Calm and gets the job done. He'll probably own a lot of NCAA Division I records by the time he's done.

Only thing against him, the teams they played against weren't that good so it's hard to judge if he's the real deal. I think he's an awesome talent in the NCAA but can he get it done in NFL? Probably. He's not necessairly a power house. He just relies on a lot of accuracy.

Unfortunately we won't know what he's made out of. Let's see how he does this season with Hawaii.

I'd like the Raiders to take JaMarcus, but CJ would be cool too. If they take CJ, then how about Jordan Palmer as a sleeper QB in the later rounds?

I wouldn't mind keeping Porter and picking up Calvin Johnson. Randy Moss can be dealt away for a lot. I'm just so excited to see who we pick. The draft is 2 weeks away. The excitement!

As for Jordan Palmer, possibly. The QB situation is up in the air right now. So many options.
