Early in the '07 season, I couldn't believe how people were calling out Chad Johnson. Calling him a distraction. Calling him selfish. Saying that he is a lockerroom problem. I didn't understand where it was coming from.

But by now, it's all coming true. Tried to defend him during the season, but all this recent whining has caused me to lose massive respect for him.

A question: What is the right way for the Bengals to handle the Chad Johnson situation?

He wants out. Why is this annoying? If you wanted out of your job and wanted to work somewhere else would you not do everything you can to get out? He wants out. It's not like he is saying "It's all about the money pay me or leave". The guy just doesnt wanna be there anymore, he doesn't like Palmer the front office and especially Marvin. Get him out. Lets not forget where the Bengals were before Chad Johnson. I mean seriously who put them on the map prior to Chad? Not since Boomer and Collinsworth have they been on the map. It wasen't Carson it wasent Rudi or TJ it was Chad Johnson.

Hey I like you and all. But I totally disagree. I think Chad Johnson deserves to be on a better team . Yea Chad Johnson brags a lot but pros will be pros. Some don't. Some do. lLike T.O. he brags a lot. Or Randy Moss. One person who doesn't is Barry Sanders.

Oh and about the situation. Trade him. Look what happend to the Eagles with T.O. Not only did they not get anything for him but he signed within the division. What you think if you deactivate him or let him go after sitting that Baltimore or Pitt wont call? Get a 1st and something else for him, it can happen for sure.

Hey man I totally agree. If someone wants out they should get out. I heard that the Bengals didn't care they will bench him all year. Lol they can't afford that. yea they can fine him for skipping practice and stuff. But he will still get at least 2 million. They don't have that money to waste!

Oh I agree, he deserves to be on a better team and is wasting his time there. But he's going about this all wrong. Either deal with it semi-quietly, or shut up and wait your contract out.

He has like 4 or 3 years left in his contract tho? (Burton can confirm the actual length). As bad as this sounds this is the only way he can get out.

If he still has that long on his contract, it's his own fault. He agreed to be with the team for that long, there is no "unless the bengals suck" clause.

If he want to leave, then the Bengals should trade him. A player like that can cause quite a ruckus (damn you Randy Moss!) if left unchecked. What I don't like is the way he's going about it. He should have asked the front office to be traded and kept quiet. Too much drama from the WR divas; learn from Marvin boys.

That's not why he wants out tho. Not because they "suck". He doesn't like the people he works with. He says they blame him for everything. That's how he feels and he doesn't want to be a part of that team. It's not just the losing. Also this "you signed a contract for that long so you stay" is BS. Because most players expect to stay there for those years and then they get cut...don't matter if you have a contract. This time the player is the one wanting out, not the team wanting to end it. The Bengals better get rid of him and get something for him because I can see it now....2009 Baltimore Ravens sign Chad Johnson to contract.

Its quite reasonable to see him complain so much. I don't know how he took it for so many years? He is good enough to win the whole thing but he will never do that in Cincy. Not everybody wants to just hang out in one place whether they win or lose and when your good enough to go pro but more importantly and all star in the NFL then you should to a certain degree have a say in where you want to play. You may not be able to choose between every single team in the NFL but the option should be there where he has a couple of teams to choose from and I'm sure some would pick him up as a free agent.

I don't care what you bring in to Cincy they are going to have a losing season and at best they make the playoffs. Hell they are not going to win the superbowl within the next five years and you can go ahead and call that a fact. Its kind of like saying that someone can't leave a company that they work for even though they are not happy. Chad needs to leave for his own good. The bengals blow and Chad is more important than the rest of the players on that team anyway because everyone elses talent is not near Chad's on that team. Like I said the Bengals are going nowhere. They might have a better chance to win the superbowl over Atlanta but even that would be pushing it.

Its no fun being on the losing team all the time and even though there is a chance the Bengals can win some games its common sense they are going to lose most of their games when they match up against the talents of other teams.

Okay this whole "he should of went quite about it" is ridiculous. When has that ever worked? Do you honestly expect Chad to go up to the front office and say "Hey guys I want out can you please trade me, if you do it I won't be a distraction"....and then the Front Office goes "Well your our best player and we probally won't get a fair deal in return but hey since you asked so nicely wtf not?" Yeah I can see that totally happening.

If he doesn't do anything nothings going to change. Everyone has always payed attention to him when he has opened his mouth in the past and this time is no exception. Whenever players start speaking out things happen its clearly become the best way to get out of things seeing as the players don't have as much control as they should have. Its worked in the past for other players so it should work for Chad and hopefully it will. My only problem is that I only get local game channels come sundays and the bengals are usually always on and with or without Chad and I don't want to watch them nor root for them. As for Palmer he isn't that talented in the NFL anyway, he is just a statue with a strong arm...you gotta have more than that. Thats one thing I don't like about sundays is that narrow window of games to watch and it seems to get smaller and smaller every year on sunday due to how tight the NFL is becoming. Hell fire cut a deal with ESPN and ESPN2 so that away I have 4 channels that have games on at a time like saturday.

Thats such a waste of bench space and time. If the Bengals were smart they should trade him, at least then they'll get a player willing to contribute.

Well, you'd hope they would get a player willing to contribute. Trading Chad is better for the team because then they aren't forced to pay a guy who is unmotivated and they get rid of the "distraction" for something in return. Cutting him would be a horrible move, and keeping him on the team and benching him for 3 years is even worse.

Apparently Brian Urlacher is doing it now, too.

How about a trade: Chad Johnson for Urlacher and a 3rd or 4th rounder.

I also think they should just trade him since he is becoming a TO Jr. and the Bengals are already too dysfunctional already. They are not the Raiders in terms of sheer craziness, but they are slowly moving in that direction.

There isn't a team in the league that wouldn't take Chad. Even the Bengals don't want to lose him. However, he is falling out of the good graces of the media. He needs to tone it down a little.

It's hard to blame him after seeing Moss's career resurected in NE.

As many of you know especially those that have been regulars here for a long time, like Wally, Espurs and Geaux, I have been very critical of the Bengals for a long time now

They have easily been the most disappointing team in the NFL the past 2 years and nobody in their right mind can argue that, they have had a lot of potential on that team, but Marvin losing control of the team, too many lockerroom distractions, not having any strong leadership in the lockerroom, not doing enough in free agency to improve the team and just the constant 3 ring circus of off the field and on the field problems have destroyed the team

So yes Chad has a right to be angry about the Bengals trying to make him a Scapegoat for what happened, I do not believe this is an issue of Chad disliking Marvin Lewis or Carson Palmer, I just think he is tired of being made the Scapegoat for all of their problems as a team

Like the Bengals have needed players on Defense for the past 2 years, especially at DT and OLB and what do they do, they have drafted Offense the past 2 years in the first round and yet they have made no effort to draft good defensive players or try and sign a big impact defensive player the past 2 years

Chad has held up his end of the Bargain on Offense and the Bengals coaches and Front office have failed to get the team the players they need on Defense and yet he gets the blame for everything

The Bottom line is this guys, the Bengals have been the most disappointing team the past 2 years and it clearly shows

I agree with Espurs, the Bengals would be better off just trading him now since he obviously wants out.

Espurs was right the whole time, I told him a few weeks ago on Xbox, what a bunch of Idiots the Bengals were for not trading and getting those 2 first round picks that Washington was offering for him, they should have taken those Draft Picks, which they needed to improve their team and since they refused to do it and Chad Johnson had a bad year in 08, the Guy is not even worth a First Round Draft pick anymore and now they are stuck with his Idiotic A$$ and do not think for one second that Marvin Lewis does not wish that he would have traded him and got those 2 first round picks to use on something else

I told him, that I think the Bengals would have won at least 3 more games this year, if they would have just got rid of him and remember the Phil Simms tirade, when he was doing the Dallas/Cincinatti game, when he called Chad Johnson a cancer to the team and how he was dragging down the team and how much his attitude effected them? He knows they should have taken the draft picks and ran with them

So anybody that said, do not let him get out of his contract there, Just shut up, because the people that said do not trade him, clearly look very dumb right now

While I agree with his wanting to leave I do not think he should be a disruptive team wrecker in the process. Besides its his fault he is there still, not the teams. I looked up his contract and he signed in 2006 to be there till 2011.

Now the Bengals can still find a way to get rid of him if someone is willing to deal. He is 31 right now so he still could be productive. Now as to why they have not tried this, I am not sure. Bad team management I guess which seems to be the case with both Ohio based pro teams. Maybe this will be the year, but I think most teams usually do not try to trade a player till they are on their last year at least.

Then there is the matter of who would take him.....

The Bengals should just get rid of him. It'll solve everything. Except I know that some Bengal fans will still keep crying because they lost a douchebag who could never stop whining...

Will getting rid of him make that team better? If they find someone who is less disrutpive I suppose so but the Begals problems are much more than him. I mean Marvin Lewis and someoen can check this, but hasn't he had more of losing record than a winning one? Also isn't Carson Palmer like injured every year, or at least it seems like it?

I can guarantee everybody, that if you were to put Marvin Lewis on a Polygraph Test and if he was asked, do you regret not taking those First Round Picks that Washington offered the Bengals and if he said no, he could not pass the Test

It serves Marvin Lewis and the Bengals Management right for not making the right move and they will not get the kind of trade value, that were offered by Anybody else for Chad Johnson, the Bengals screwed up on this one bigtime

2 First round picks can get you a lot of things and replacing a WR is a lot easier then replacing other Positions, but Marvin Lewis and the Bengals management failed to understand this
